Mike Leach's personality...

I think it was inevitable that Mike Leach was going to ruffle some feathers. Whether it was something posted on twitter or whether it was a comment during a press conference. It just seems like the kind of guy that he is and this probably won't be the last player that gets upset with him (for whatever reason) and transfers during his tenure as our coach. I think the flip side of that is where he may lose one player, he will gain others.

Leach likes dark humor. I get it... and I do too.

But not everybody understands it and even some folks who do will twist it and use it against you... trying to make out that you’re an evil person.

Kinda on this note...... You would think that Leach understands sec football is the biggest deal in sports in the south. Therefore he is much more public figure than he was in Washington.

it seems mike price didn't understand that fact. I think Leach needs to understand anything he puts out there publicly will be heavily scrutinized. Being the Miss State coach.... nobody in the sec is your friend.

What's amazing to me is that his tweet about Mitt Romney (showing Leach's hand politically which should be a big no no for any college coach) has flown under the radar while something as benign and harmless as his granny knitting tweet has gone so viral.

I think Leach has two different personalities.

1. the first one is his coaching personality. I think his personality is exceptional behind closed doors & when coaching his team. It's why they are always good.

2. Off the field. I feel like off the field & in the media, he believes he has to live up to a brand that he has built to promote himself. This is the negative side but because it's off the field, it doesn't really effect his ability to coach the team.

My hope is that this was a learning experience & wakeup call for him. The SEC is a grind & you are the center of attention. You don't have to go out of your way to build a brand if you are winning. It's not about you.

Or he could jump at the Miami job when it comes
open and work from home in the off season.

If you don’t want to accept him for who he his, you can choose to find another team. I accept him. Not my job to tell him to change his personality. He is NOT a racist. But as it has been said multiple times, NO white person knows what it is like to grow up black in America. It is not just the south. It is not just Mississippi. Just as a black person may make a comment or have some personality traits that are different than whites, white Americans will have some traits that give off a vibe that may be uncomfortable to black Americans.

The only answer is to get beyond skin color and historical heritage origins and just be Americans.

Long way to go for both races to get to that point.

Dark humor ??? The first time I saw that meme it was being shared by my wife's women's bible study group made up of well educated women half of whom are left of center. They ALL thought it was hilarious...but "dark humor" c'mon.

I’m not sure you understand my statement or even what dark humor is.

Is your wife of the caucasian persuasion?
Do the members of her Sunday School class look like a group of colorful lilies in their Sunday finery or just plain old white lilies?
Not that that should make any difference.... just asking.
I guess they like "grim" humor as opposed to "dark."

Good point. This is the tip of the iceberg. Dude’s a troll and that isn’t necessarily a bad thing.

There's 20+ years of Mike Leach being Mike Leach. I don't think this should shock anyone.

Its bizarre that the headline "Mississippi State football coach post controversial meme on twitter" is a headline. We currently have a global pandemic and millions of Americans are unemployed with families who are concerned about where their next meal is coming from, and yet we gotta let the people know that Mike Leach posted a meme.

Who honestly gives a 17 about any of this?

I'm a husband. I guess I should have been offended as well given who the old wife was knitting for. :)

I know my wife wouldn't waste time with a noose (although she is an excellent knitter).

She's got a pistol by her bedside. That's one of the primary reasons the joke in the meme Leech posted doesn't really work. But that's an analysis for another thread.

That's true

I mean, it's widely said that Leach's tendency to buck "decorum" is the reason his coaching career has been at Texas Tech and Washington State. Too much of a headache for administration at big schools.

I agree completely. I also honestly think it's time for Leach to man up and coach the football this time. If he truly wanted a shot at the SEC, well he now has it, and he's on the fast track to blow it if he doesn't wake up. Concentrate on coaching football, do something here that's never been done. Kill the Twitter ******** and let's get the job done.

It's not even about Fabien Lovett. He was probably not going to make it anyway, he'd be better off with Moorhead or Kiffin. But let's cut the goofy Twitter **** out and get down to business - at least for a couple of years. - once you go 8-4 or set some passing records, start tweeting about Bigfoot again.

ETA: You're 58 years old Mike. This is probably your last stop. You're in the SEC. And you're getting ridiculed for your tweets in your first mfing 3 months on the job.

Isn't this some basic **** that can be avoided??

I listened to Jack Arute and Mike Leach daily when they a had a sports talk radio program on XM Raido. This was during the time Leach was between the TX Tech & WSU job. Leach doesn't give a 17 if he ruffles anybodies feathers. If you ask him a question or want his opinion he will give it to you unfiltered. His radio rants about Craig James and Texas Tech were epic. He could also pontificate at length about some of the most boring useless ******** you can imagine.

Boy, you couldn't be more wrong on that take. There would be zero humor in a wife just sitting there with a handgun ready to kill her husband. The whole knitting thing is what made the joke funny. I had even thought about what else she could have been knitting that would have been a device to dispose of the husband that would have avoided the whole derived controversy, but other than the noose I couldn't really think of anything. Just sad that something that wasn't race related but rather a marital issue got the race card pulled on it. But that's just the way things are today (racial issues, women's issues, gay issues, etc.) so Leach should have known better given his position.

You just compared what Mice Price did to what Leach did. You can't be serious.

i was pointing out that both coaches, by their actions (not that the action was the same) are unaware of the microscope in which they are under.

going to a strip club as the Alabama head coach was dumb AF.

tweeting every thing that comes to mind on a variety of topics, is unusual for a sec coach. I don't have a problem with anything he has tweeted so far. (Lovett just wanted out.). However you have to know.... first even slightly controversial topic, will get media attention because of who he is. First OM loss..... mark my words.... some State fans are going to point to his twitter time and him spending time in key west. He is under a microscope.

Ya know, the more you talk, post, tweet, or tiktok your counter-outrage, the longer you drag this whole thing out and the worse you're making it.

If everyone would just stop trying to win the generational argument, this will go away sooner rather than later.

I understand it is not Leach's character to accept advice from a college sports board poster, but this is pretty good advice. I guess you could get offended and go into the transfer portal. That is what immature people do.

Sir - be an adult and act like one, please. Thank you, a collage sports board poster.

Oh, by the way, It would also be unwise to joke about "Bubba from Bogue Chitto" or whatever his name was.

The truth is, we all want to be heard. We all think our opinion matters and if we go on about it long enough, we'll either make someone change their mind or make ourselves feel better. Often, neither of those things happen. Who would have thought that giving a voice to any idiot with a keyboard (including myself) would have simultaneously been the best and worst possible thing for our society. Yet, here we are...

OH I get it. I've been guilty of it as much as the next guy, but I feel like we have a lot of fans that have kept this conversation alive a lot longer than it had to and all it does is hurt the program. We've had multiple threads started TODAY about this.

It's like... Great, you really owned the libs today, but all you're doing is attracting more negative attention.
