Big rebuilding year for us if both of those guys leave, which it appears they will, along with Turner.

Maybe others look at SIERA too..

Wahl allows a TON of fly balls and doesn't get the K's. Not worthy of a pick this high.

I was under the impression that wahl did get quite a few k's. Hmm, there aren't any whispers about sore arms with wahl are there? I know he didn't seem to be as effective at the end of the year.

Wahl has more k's per 9 innings than Mayers.

I don't give a damn about comparing the two. If you are an extreme fly ball pitcher you better rack up the K's. 78 in 97 innings doesn't impress me. Also, Wahl's walk % at 10.9% is higher than ANY of our usable arms.

So here's a guy that won't overpower hitters at the next level, has an extremely high fly ball rate (which correlates to HR, XBH) AND walks a ton. Sorry but I ain't using a top pick on him. He will be a bust, like I've said all year.

Wahl's approach will change when he is back in the bullpen...where he belongs...

Keith Law said on twitter last month that Wahl projected as a reliever and not a starter, so it's not that big of a shock that he's dropped.

Jake Overbey is not returning to Ole Miss baseball next season either, according to Kendall Rogers on twitter just now. Is that the Overbey that started at 1B? Or the other one?

It's the other one. Similar to the Synder brothers. One is good enough to play, the other isn't so he transfers

I see way more upside in Mayers. Makes sense to me. I think most ball clubs look at Wahl as a middle relief guy honestly. Been watching baseball a long time and I think Wahl is at his peak now.

With pitchers from Ole Miss, it's buyer beware

The only pitcher that has had any success at the MLB level from the Bianco era is Lance Lynn. As you said, Bianco has a reputation for overworking pitchers and they pay the price in pro baseball. I think that along with Wahl being labeled as a relief pitcher dropped his stock significantly.

He also wasn't very impressive during his last two SEC outings. He was not efficient vs. MSU and we were able to work his pitch count up and knock him out of the game and then LSU's scrubs beat him. He did beat Binghampton in their regional, but he wasn't really lights out there either.

that we took Mayers and Mason Katz. Mayers was extremely inconsistent all year outside of one great game against MSU, and Katz is a *****. No pun intended of course.

This year we've had a couple of pitchers (graveman and girodo) get drafted in decent rounds. Over the next few years, I really think we're gonna become pitchers u in the sec. We'll have a wave of pitchers taken fairly early in the draft.

He probably knows that with Dalton Dulin going there

That he is not going to get much of a chance to start even if he hits .400.

It's all about signability with these new rules. I read that Mayers will probably sign below slot.

Vanderbilt will have something to say about that, and Dave Serrano at Tennessee is also a highly respected pitching coach. Serrano will have Tennessee turned around pretty soon as long as he schedules smart- they're where we were about four years ago.

Having Butch helps out a lot. I expect Woodruff to be a lot better when you know- his arm isn't broken. Lindgren will be a lot better next year as well- he's a hard worker, but he has to mature as a pitcher a little bit and learn now to put bad things behind him and minimize damage. I'm glad we got Trevor Fitts some starts late in the year- he doesn't throw nearly as hard as the other two, but he is a competitor. Holder might be the top closer prospect in the country next year. If Ben Bracewell comes back, he will be pretty solid, and Ross will be his usual self- he might even add a pitch or two to make him even better if that's possible. Dakota Hudson has a chance to crack the weekend rotation as well. Having someone that throws 94 on Sundays in the SEC is a nice luxury to have. And as of now, we'll see what happens with Evan Mitchell. And then we have some wild cards like Daryl Norris, Will Cox, Myles Gentry, John Marc Shelly and others.

What does gentry's fast ball top out at? Did I see somewhere that he was around 88 with his fastball? If so, he could be filthy out of the pen next year with as much movement and off speed stuff as he has. Add the threat of 90+ to go with it, and he could make people look foolish.

Also, any chance Shelly could move to a starting role if by some chance Woody doesn't get it worked out?

Wahl's velocity was down all season this year for whatever reason. Something never seemed quite right with him...

Some talk that he may go back to Ole Miss. No clue how true...

I think I heard Cohen say 90 on Gentry's fastball. I think he is going to be Caleb Reed 2.0. I think it's more likely that we would use Daryl Norris as a starter than Shelly. I think Shelly is pretty much a relief pitcher. I'm not sure that he has the frame to be a starting pitcher even in college.

Besides that- I really think Woodruff will be fine. It was obviously a physical problem and despite the fact that he was throwing about 82 he still had the Girodos to throw his fastball down the middle of the plate in his last game against Ole Miss.

One more year under Bianco should finish off any hope of a pro career.
