Why would a 5-star stud from California commit to Minnesota in the first place?
Maybe he was a Soundgarden fan?

I mean this is the same question people ask about Ace Bailey and Rutgers.

His high school or AAU teammate Jaden Henley is on the Gophers. It's not so different from Davis and Bailey in fact. (The Brandin Knight connection is unique for Rutgers though)

We're a bit different from Minnesota, we're just miles away from NYC and the Jersey Shore, you know what the top entertainment is in Minnesota? Ice fishing.....ok, I'm joking a bit but you get the idea.

If the kid grew up in the Midwest, I could understand it.

The Rutgers basketball program is not comparable at all to the Minnesota basketball program

You think basketball players commit in part because of the Jersey Shore or NYC? Lol, 😂 😂. They probably spend about 95% of their time on campus. Maybe a team Jersey Shore trip or two in the summer to get a break from summer workouts.

How many NYC trips does a college basketball player take from Piscataway to NYC over 4 years without it being a team trip? My guess is it rhymes with Nero.

minnesotas coach is not long for them. He conned his way into the job and is in way over his head. After another last place finish next year , he’ll be gone
Little Ricky was under appreciated there and got hosed. Johnson was brought in for his recruiting and AAU connections if I remember correctly. He’s a dead man walking there.

Awesome post. Are you and Soundgarden or Chris Cornell fan?
Huge. My ringtone is the guitar from Rusty Cage. I miss that there will be no more new Soundgarden and Chris Cornell music terribly.
His final solo album, Higher Truth, pretty much was writing on the wall of what was to come.

He explained that the lyric "Looking California, feeling Minnesota" is supposed to mean he was looking bad and feeling bad.

Ace actually mentioned proximity to NYC being a draw for Rutgers and he loves the city

Back in my undergrad days on The Banks we'd frequently take that 40-minute train trip to NYC. It's a factor for many. I get it.

Brutal for the Gophers. Their fans must be gutted
Yeah, I read their forum and I actually feel bad for them. They all want Johnson gone and this is the final straw, but likely nothing will happen because the administration there don't care.

Side note: they don't blame us for not wanting to move our game with them up, so that was nice instead of the reaction from some in the media.

Baye is committed for 2023

Gavin is committed for 2023

JaMicheal Davis is committed for 2023.

I'm fairly certain that 2024 recruiting is going to be off the charts with Warren and Bailey on board for 2024.....nice try thinking otherwise.
Committed and signed are two different things but I’m sure you know that. Gavin is signed so he is coming. The others are committed. When they sign I will rejoice. I’m a little concerned that the way the latter part of the season has played out (thus far) may cause some to “explore their options”. Would be thrilled if that isn’t the case but to think that isn’t a possibility (especially the way Ace committed unexpectedly after a huge win) is a little naive.

We also have a coach who has a track record and is successful.

They sign in 6 weeks - each of the remaining '23s committed after the early signing period passed.

If they were decommitting they would have done it already like Mr. Evans because a lot of slots are already filled at other programs at this late stage. But you're worrying about guys decommitting from a tournament bound team and program that is on the rise vs. a guy getting a release from a dumpster fire situation.

As for '24, anything can happen but it's a bit naive to think Ace's commit isn't strong especially given his family's relationship to one of the RU coaches. But talent likes to play with talent and Pike is bringing plenty of it to campus in the '23 & '24 classes.

Let’s hope everything you stated plays out.

The speculation is that Evans is headed to Louisville. Not much better than Minnesota, if true.

Obviously, Evans still has to get a release since he signed a LOI with Minnesota.

Going from an 8 win team to a 4 win team? Not exactly murderers row there
