He already said he wants to stay in the SEC where the competition is the best. Unless he would move significantly higher in the world, he won't leave here. He's not gonna leave MSU for a lateral move, or even a slightly better job. He's gonna wait for a big fish offer from a program with a ton of tradition and money like a Penn St or Michigan or Florida. He's not gonna leave here for Minnesota, and I hope those delusional fans from Minnesota keep hoping. Thats just hilarious.

ETA: The best part about that is that they thought Mullen would come to Minnesota because they have better locker rooms. Seriously? First off, those aren't even ours, and 2nd of all, if your selling point is your locker rooms, then you really don't have a selling point.

Yeah, they are delusional. They even mention that they could pay $1.5 million to get him. I don't see anyway possible he would go to Minnesota but if he did it would take a hell of a lot more than that. I would think he should have the opportunity to stay here and make between 2 and 2.5 million next year.

with how sensible some of the posters are. It's still funny, but it seems not a lot of them are willing to subscribe to that rumor just yet. Even one poster realizes that the locker is at Ole Miss and not state. The Hilary Clinton comment made me laugh though.</p>

I seriously doubt most schools have nice visitor locker rooms. What would be the point? <div>

I was thinking the same thing about what the boise people thought of us. The gopher board even talks about wikepedia showing Mullen accepting the position just like we had with peterson.

Someone edited it to say:

Mississippi State
Mullen's first recruiting class at Mississippi State was ranked #25 in the nation by Rivals.com[5] and #19 in the nation by Scout.com.[6] In his first season as head coach at Mississippi State in 2009, his team went 5–7 and won the Egg Bowl beating The School Up North, 41–27. Three players on the team were named to All-SEC Team and four players were named to All-SEC Freshmen Team.
In 2010 Mullen's Mississippi State Bulldogs beat the University of Mississippi in the Egg Bowl, making Mullen the first MSU head coach to win his first two games against The School Up North since 1940.
In 2011 Mullen will take over as the head coach of the University of Minnesota.

And now it says:

to think that he would go there? I doubt any of us follow Minnesota football very closely, but we have enough sense to know what their program is like. Your average college football fan could probably tell you that any coaching job in the SEC West is better than freaking Minnesota. Delusional...

So then that sense of yours allows you to know that they are just like MSU...not exactly nation contenders. They had a bad season. And in the last 8 or so years they have been to way more bowl games than MSU. The bowl games havent exactly been the most prestigious, but bowl games none the less.

They arent an elite program, neither is MSU. They dont dominate in an elite conference, neither does MSU.

This is about all the thought i am going to give concerning Mullen going to Minnesota, but i couldnt resist chiming in with a response to this post. What the F are you even talking about?
None of us follow their program closely but we know what their program is like? Are you kidding me? That makes zero sense.

In college football there are about 15 elite programs, 30 solid programs, 50 meh programs, and another 30ish terrible programs. Neither of us is in the elite and neither of us is in the solid. Sorry, but it takes more than 1 year to be in the solid. We are meh when you look at the program and not just the season...so are they.

Aren't they already snowed in up there? No way Mullen will go to the biggest joke school in the Big 10. Can we somehow start a rumor that Mullen is actually going to coach the Vikings?

when they are so well thought of here and will be able to write their own check whether it's at State or some other SEC school in the future? I realize he is a home grown yank, but I doubt he is moving up there unless it's something like Penn State or the like.

Maybe the Mall of America, maybe its the feet of snow they get that Dan Mullen wants...but I don't know what in the world they think they have that the SEC can't offer.<div>

Mullen is going to go to Minnesota to coach football, and Don Lucia is going to leave the hockey team to come down to Starkville to coach the Ice Dogs.

Funny post from there

"Who knows what his motives would be:
1) Money
2) Mpls > Starkville
3) SEC politics is forcing him out
4) This his chances of winning are greater @MN than at MSU where he has to compete with Bama, Auburn, LSU and Arkansas in his division and is always 2nd fiddle to Ole Miss for instate recruits.

Bottom line is that we don't know what his motives are but I'd be happy to have him."

Yes, I'd obviously bedisappointed, but mad? No. <div>
</div><div>He's gotta do what's best for him and his family. Right now, I just don't see why making a move to Minnesota would benefit him, especially if this new talk of a contract has some credibility to it, which I'm assuming it does since Stricklin is talking about it. </div><div>
</div><div>Let's just fantasize a minute...suppose he somehow, someway built a program at MSU that could possibly contend for the west on a yearly basis (yes I know, I said fantasize). How valuable would he be after that? Taking a program that's been at the bottom of the SEC for the most part of it's lifetime, and made it into a solid program. We've got talent in Mississippi for sure, maybe not that of Texas/Florida/Cali, but we for sure have some talent. </div><div>
