Why the mistrust between the communities?
I don't know all the details. But at the root, they are three communities relatively close in proximity but that seem to be geographically separated from each other. It doesn't help that the feeder schools (my guess is 60% of kids come from Minooka grade school district, 35% from Channahon, and less than 5% from Troy) have long competed and been the big fish in a little pond simply because they have massive enrollments compared to most other middle schools/junior highs. Then in high school, most sports have not lived up to expectations. I have also seen them suffer from the "compete to win at all costs" mentality in grades 6/7/8 at the expense of player development. But I guess that is true of many K-8 districts as their 8th grade program becomes way more focused on winning than it would in a K-12 district.
Anyway, the school sports of baseball and basketball are not playing Marseilles, Seneca, Mazon, and Reed Custer as much as they used to, which is good. I also see the Chanooka Braves seem to have joined a more competitive youth football league in recent years, which will help them. I can only imagine the next 20 years will be more competitive than the last 20 years were for their boys sports programs.
