But a total failure when it comes to star ratings, actually I don't think he has been rated but let's not let that get in the way.

He will fall in line with Jameon to take over when Bumphis/Heavens leave. I will say this, I think of all the positions to evaluate, WR has to be one of the easiest - especially for Mullen. <div>
</div><div>That said, I certainly understand where you are coming from. Right now, I think Grindle, Q. Antoine and maybe Holloway are the only top notch players we have committed out of 13. That is pretty scary. Guys like Torrey Bell, Devon Desper, Cole Carter, Cedric Jiles, Ryan Brown, Nelson Adams, Deonte Evans, etc. do not appear to be heavily recruited. That said, I think a few of them are exciting projectable players. The problem is, you can't sign a full class of projects. </div>

the talent pool is relatively shallow this year in general- except for D lineman. I'm concerned about Ole Miss' class too. I just don't see many can't miss guys both in terms of those committed and those on our radar.

dan and staff arent looking at these recruits as we need you next year... they are getting projects with size ...and plan to have them in 2-3 years

isn't our smallest Offensive lineman 6'3, and he is 2nd string, right?? when is that happened at MSU before
Blaine Clausell had all kind of offers didn't he 2 years ago... but he is ahead of a 4* and fighting a SR for starting LT spot...
it maybe me, but some of you might want to step back and not believe a nerd with a computer to much...

ok so i looked... Saulsberry is 6'2 and trapp the only recruited oline that is 6'3

Mullen has earned the benefit of the doubt for player evaluation/development from me. But eventually we have to start getting players with other BCS or at least other SEC offers, right?

It's not like Dan knows something on every player than no other SEC coach knows. It makes me believe that Dan thinks he can turn just about anyone into an SEC player (insert Miami Board of Trustee's comment here). I just hope he's right more than he's wrong.

It is going to come down to James, Evans, Ward, Jefferson, Richie Brown in state and I don't think either of us feel overly confident about landing any of those guys. We have Croom and a few out of state DB/LB prospects that we have a chance on that would make nice pickups, but that is about all I see as something to look forward to on the horizon.

Like I was saying, I can handle signing 7 or 8 projects/diamonds in the rough, especially given our recent history, but signing 15-17....that will catch up to you.

One thing Mullen and staff are doing is getting tall, fast, but underweight players (and therefore lower rated), knowing that Balis can put muscle on them. It's happened over and over in Mullen's first 2-3 years. The higher rated recruits with more offers had better high school weight training and are already college size and more college ready. Some of our recruits may be thinner/weaker coming in, but that doesn't mean that they can't be just as college ready after a redshirt year and 2-3 years under Balis. <div>
</div><div>Also, "I'm coming to State to work hard" is a common them among our recruits. Sounds obvious, but I don't see other schools' commits saying that nearly as much. </div>

This guy will be a Return Specialist/WR/RB that will fit perfectly into Mullen's system with his speed. Think of this guy as the contrasting compliment to Xavier Grindle. It appears that Mullen wants to get an everydown back and a speedster in every class. Obviously he's lower rated because of his size but he fits perfectly into the role that he's being recruited for.

Deonta Evans seems to be more of the all purpose Athelete. Maybe a Brandon Heavens/Perkins type player. But he may end up somewhere esle he seems very versatile.

Now saying that I still hope we do get Quay, Ward, Brown, Jefferson, Autry, Banks, and Butler. Or at least most of them. That would fatten up the start count.

I could be wrong in my observation but it seems to me that these unknown guys with no stars that are being sign are coming from smaller schools. There is a gold mine out there it you lumped all these small schools together and sign guys from that group. It may not be a top 40 signing class but after a few years in the system, it would turn out to be a SEC caliber class. Hopefully Mullen is getting to know the high school coaches and listening to what they have to say. They knowmore about which guys aregood. With the new 25 rule, it could pay off in the long run. I truly believe that many of these no star guys could have stars if they played at the bigger high schools with more money and better coaching. A good college coach who can developed players can get a extra two to three stars out of a guy. From what I have seen Mullen is that kind of coach.

Some of the coaching and weighttraining in MississippiHS's are so backwards that theymight as well been training in the 50's when people still thought weight training would harm athletes.I know some schools do it well, but not all of them.I have seen some pretty terrible weight training programsby some horrid coaches. They keep thier jobs because they are teachers, not coaches.

The question is: Can you really build a top program with all projects? I say you can't. You need both the top players and the properly evaluated 2/3 star guys.

..there will come a day when Dan Mullen will win a recruiting title.

Just be patient. But when Dan wins his recruiting title, & 3 years later he has only 4 players contributing from that class, just promise you'll keep your mouth shut.

I've heard a lot of smack about our classes robbing CUSA teams. But it seems every year those teams have at least one stud on them. Perhaps it is ourapproach to take their best talent and consolidate them into our team. I can think of a lot of players from CUSA and lower teams that we'd have loved to have on our team over the recent years.

Roddy White, Joe Webb, DeAngelo Williams, DeAngelo Brown, Matt Forte, Bryan Thomas, etc...

Don't get me wrong who wouldn't love all 4 & 5 star players but we're not going to get many of those unless they are in-state players or have connections with State. I think getting the big time recruits we can and really evaluating the lesser heralded players is how Mullen and staff are moving forward. I don't think he'll take a player who might be a grade risk or marginal type guy just to pad the stars in the class. And maybe that is partly self confidence but until we start regressing I'm tenuously accepting the fact we're not going to be winning any recruiting trophy's.

We sorely need a return specialist and this guy looks like he has speed to burn. I like it.

The guy who has never played OL before? I had somebody want to bet me the other day that Carmon would be awesome on OL.

and the SR is Carmon ...who I think played T in highschool, i think i read that somewhere, but not sure... anyways the point is that we signed a 2* Clausell early and lots of people wondered why we signed him and he is at worst 2nd string LT right now as a RS-FR

Evans and Ward are going to play together in college. That much was apparent after Big Dawg. And everyone agrees we are in the lead with Evans because of Collins. JMHO.
