How are your hospitals and clinics doing?

Are you experiencing a large influx of patients with the pandemic? Are you seeing your bed capacity And ICU rooms maxed out? How’s the ER holding up? And your supplies?

Are y’all doing okay? I know most elective procedures are now on hold due to expectations of other needs for the staff.

Administrators told us to keep patients out of the clinics. Now tons of staff are being furloughed. So now we feel pressure to bring patients in despite our best judgement.

My son is an ER nurse at three different hospitals in Jackson. He hasn’t worked a full night shift in three weeks. Keeps getting sent home early because there’s nothing going on. Basically all of the (non)emergency patients who would normally come in, are staying home and self treating now. He’s only treated 2 Covid patients in 3 weeks.

But....but....its a pandemic. 200,000 are gonna die. The end is near. We need more respirators and toilet paper

At the risk of offending some on here (yeah...right), we are praying for all those in the medical field that are dealing with this awful virus.

Then did it just not come to MS as bad as expected? Is it still "on the way"?

Because you couldn't get on Facebook or the local news without seeing Mississippi towns gathering supplies (sanitizer, masks, cleaning supplies, etc) for the local hospitals. This was two weeks ago even. Was there a big need then? Or were people just expecting to be overrun?

Not Mississippi, but I have a buddy that is a doctor in the UAB system and he said UAB is running at about 64% capacity. They normally run at 107%.

It’s been a big *** nothing-burger to this point. Thank goodness that my wife’s clinic was already prepared to be slow with students leaving for the summer. My sister-in-law is a nurse at a surgical clinic and has already been furloughed for a couple of weeks. A good friend of mine’s girlfriend works for a NMMC urgent care clinic and she was furloughed yesterday. Mississippi is not New York City and it was a bit ridiculous to treat it like it is. The medical sector in Mississippi will recover, but it won’t happen over night.
