Last year we played the National Champion, the SEC champion who finished #2 in the country, the SEC East champ, the #5 team in the country, and the #9 team in the country. So to recap, we played 4 of the top 10 teams in the country, plus the SEC East champ.

People bitching about our schedule are just plain stupid or they are opponents of ours that dont want us to continue building a program by going to bowl games.

Good. We had bad seasons or played teams that caused bad seasons when we couldn't beat Oregon, West Virginia, or Georgia Tech. We also got unlucky and played BYU and Houston when they had nearly undefeated seasons with Heisman caliber QBs. Forget LT's scheduling. I'll take the dregs of CUSA and the Sun Belt any day. My only complaint, forget the roadies to Birmingham. If we insist on playing a CUSA road game, I'd rather it be in NOLA every other year.

we have 16 straight sellouts. It's stupid to play a tougher schedule.

The goal for our program right now is bowl eligibility. Whatever makes it easier - I am all for it. If we continue to make bowl games by being better than 6-6 or 7-5 where an OOC loss doesn't seriously hurt our chances, then can we think about stepping up with schedule. Right now - I want to make bowl games.

Despite us not being a national contender, our OOC is one of the few things an outsider can pick at in the SEC.

I'm dumbfounded the guy actually stated we are hurting the SEC. How?

Anyhow, it doesn't matter bc Stricklin is right on the money. We are selling tickets, going to bowls, and plan to adjust when our OOC appears to start holding us back. That's the smart thing to do. How is abondoning a great shot at postseason play because of ego a smart play?

we got our tail kicked 6 straight times by those schools. Granted we were a much worse program at the time but in ALL 3 cases those teams were mediocre to bad when we scheduled them and by the time we played them ALL 3 were Top 10 teams. I really don't give a rip about playing BCS teams until we get a better foothold in the SEC. Very difficult to ask our guys to be jacked up for SEC games and then turn around and be ready to face quality BCS competition on their non-SEC weeks. When our program has become a consistent winner with plenty of quality depth I will be much more open to the idea but not now. In fact, this year even with one of the weakest non-conference schedules in the country our overall schedule strength is still in the 30s of over 120 teams. Playing tough schedules does NOT get you recruits, winning and going to bowl games gets you recruits.

in America. It's a nice footnote, but at the end of the day no one really cares that you went 3-9 with the toughest schedule in America. Recruits don't care, and quite frankly I'm almost as interested in playing Georgia State as I am playing Georgia Tech.

And for the attendance people- when we play someone like GT, it's going to include at least one road game for us at some point. It just doesn't make sense.

It also doesn't make sense for us to play big name teams when we are trying to build depth on our own roster as well.

We need to keep going to bowls, getting good exposure, continue to build our fanbase, etc.

When you play in the toughest 7 team division in all of college sports you dontapologizefor anything. You want to hate on Miss State for that you might as well hate whatever school you root for's AD for not doing the same.

I read that Florida hasn't played a Non BCS team away from Gainsville since the early nineties. That type of schedule must be awesome.

And we kicked their asses. This is just more SEC envy from people who wouldn't want their school to have to play our schedule.

for return 1&1. Keep just meeting random teams on NYD at neutral sites.

Instead of comparing our schedule to Alabama and LSU, why not take the time to compare us to Iowa State and Washington State

It's amazing how they left that out. But they did add this: ["the last time the Bulldogs beat a non-SEC BCS team was Oklahoma State in 1999."]</p>

Mississippi State has avoided playing a BCS conference team as a non-conference opponent for the past 3 years, and after this season that number will be 4.

When did Georgia Tech drop out of a BCS conference? First line of his whole article was factually incorrect.

We stayed home from a bowl as recently as 3 years ago due to scheduling tough teams OOC. Mullen's bowl streak should already be 3, going on 4, which would set the new record for MSU. Had LT not hammered us with dumb scheduling, Mullen would likely be 24-15(9-15), and you could bet our 2010/2011 recruiting classes would've looked better than they ended up looking. The more I think about it, I could literally argue that the 2009 schedule set the whole program back a year...

Ga. doesn't play the Hogs, the Tide or LSU this year. Their only tuff NC game is Ga Tech. they Play The BARNERS and the Black Bears.

complaint made, year in and year out. As coach stated, it's either brought up by 1) morons 2) our SEC brethren 3)both.

With our SEC schedule, it's just idiotic to go out and schedule BCS opponents for our OOC games. The bears will figure this out, if they haven't already.

playing Alabama and Auburn during those years for the most part. Vaught readily admitted it was their modus operandi and a large part of their success during their "haydays" of the fifties and sixties was due to their scheduling. Piss on all of it....no SEC team has to apologize for a weak OOC schedule. We finally wised up...screw u LT.

It doesn't really matter who you beat. All that matters is how many you won.

It's interesting that about the time we finally saw the light and quit scheduling tough OOC games, UM decided they needed to beef up their OOC schedule. They're going to pay the price for that decision for the next several years.

but, ... THEY won the 1960 'mythical' National Championship, going 9-0-1 against:

Houston 6-4
Kentucky 5-4-1
Memphis 8-2
Vandy 3-7
Tulane 3-6-1
LSU 5-4-1
Chattanoga 1-5
UT 6-2-2
MSU 2-6-1

Beat ‘powerhouse’ Rice (7-4) in the Sugar Bowl

Tough schedule, especially that non-1A, ‘designated SEC’ & greatly feared .. UT – Chattanooga!

...but schools also played in Sugar Bowls after both 1962 and 1969 seasons. SEC made sure schools started playing tougher SEC slates beginning in mid-60's, when UM started playing Bama, UGA and Florida.

The examples he presents of other SEC school playing OOC BCS opponents for the majority is in-state rivals or just historic rivalrys. It just so happens that TSUN is in not only our conference but the same division.

Florida- Florida St.
Kentucky- Louisville (Big East is basically the equivalent of C-USA, IMO)
South Carolina- Clemson
Vandy- Wake Forest
Auburn- Clemson

And for the other games, those were the first games of the season forboth teamsand were essentially a money-making promotion.
