Rangers brass meeting Prince Fielder today in Dallas. If they sign him, it would be bad news for Moreland (unless he got traded to someone who'll use him as a starter).

He's been able to play outfield some in the last year plus, something Michael Young cannot do.

I don't see the Rangers shelling out the kind of money Fielder is going to want anyway.

that the Rangers are going to do one of two things, and it also involves Yu Darvish:

1. If they don't sign Darvish- and Weds. is the deadline, I think they go after Prince Fielder, and then maybe sign someone like Oswalt or Edwin Jackson.

2. They are concentrating on Darvish now since they have until Weds to sign him, and then after that they will maybe make a run at Prince since they have until spring training to sign him. I'm not sure that they can afford both, but maybe they can- I doubt that they can though.

From what I have heard recently, it seems like the Nationals are the favorite to land Prince. The Cubs are trying to dump salary- they're trying to give away Alfonso Soriano as we speak.

If Fielder goes to the Rangers, it sucks for Mitch Moreland- a guy who hit the longest home run in the World Series last year as far as distance, and has put up some respectable numbers. Hopefully, he will be traded should they get Prince. Of course, if Prince goes to DC, he would block another former MSU player- Tyler Moore. Also, as far as Moreland- Micheal Young isn't exactly a young player. Their plan may be to replace Young with Moreland or possibly move Moreland to the outfield with say, Cruz in RF, Hamilton in CF, and Mitch in LF.

Another thing to consider about the Rangers- there is a good chance that they lose Josh Hamilton after this year to free agency. I've heard that the Cardinals are already interested in him if that happens, and they'll have money to spend to get him. But that's a year away, so we'll see what happens.

Don't forget the cubs just traded for rizzo. So I'm not sure if they are really a Player for fielder. I'd say the nationals might be in it still

Maybe not blatant colluding but I think they are slow playing Fielder just because of who his agent is.

a contract like Albert Pujols's and most owners aren't stupid. And by stupid, I mean a 10 year contract. A huge long term contract like that can cripple your organization- ask the Rangers about A-Rod's first mega contract or the Cubs about Soriano, Zambrano, and etc.

MLB Network did an interesting segment on players who had received 10 year contracts since free agency began- there haven't been very many- and there was only one that "worked out"- their words not mine- and that was actually A-Rod's first contract with the Rangers- which of course he opted out of and signed with the Yankees. The only other one that came close was Dave Winfield with the Yankees, but while his production was good, because he was paid so much and the Yankees didn't win the World Series with him, it was deemed by them as "not worth it".

The only others were Wayne Garland in 1976- the first 10 year contract- and he basically broke down, and then the others I believe I have mentioned all ready. And even the one 10 year deal that was "worth it"- the Rangers couldn't get any pitching because they had so much tied up into A-Rod. They really didn't move forward until they got rid of him. And of course, we will see what happens with Pujols, but odds are he won't be worth it either. Heck, they're already backloading his contract so that they can get other decent players as it is- that's not going to get any easier the older he gets and the more money he gets.
