I think this game might be interesting due to the history between these 2, I look for a win something like 35-21 an old rivalry, Anyone?

Purple after tonight I think it will be awful quite on this thread. Avery is improving but still a long ways away from competing with you guys. Hopefully soon we'll be back to the days where the Avery and Mitchell game will have a lot of meaning.

If Mitchell plays as bad as they did last night, Avery might give them all they can handle.

Avery has used NFSH Network all season unless the hosting school wouldn't let them? I know it's not their schedule but I'd check back later on it? I really don't see it not being on there.

NFSH Network should have the game
Yeah thanks I just looked again I first just saw no future events but then I noticed the Madison game there so I guess they just haven't updated it yet. Actually looks they have one of the better video quality

Yeah it makes it much more enjoyable to watch with commentators and not just hear I think it is, it appears to be a first down from the stadium announcer like the Forest Hills game, lord that was annoying. I watched one of Avery's earlier games and they had Deelee Scott and Teddy Bare doing the commentating and they done a good job, I also really like the way Heritage pairs up the wkyk call of the game up with the video feed. I started getting a subscription to the NFHS network back during the Tennessee football season when I adopted Elizabethton as my Tennessee team, even managed to get into the Elizabethton Greeneville playoff game to get a fix for my missing high school football so much in the fall. I have really enjoyed having the subscription and being able to watch games from all over and I like that you can go back and watch games on demand. I hope that games being videod is something that continues after covid, but I'm sure most teams will not continue it due to hurting ticket sales, but it has really been great for family members that live far away being able watch relatives play.

I watched the Murphy/ Cherokee game and their announcers did a good job ,at Smoky Mtn very good camera work but the announcers were terrible I muted them finally. As for continuing to do videos I don't think it would really hurt the attendance most people like the atmosphere of being at the game but as you point out there are those who have moved far off ether family or alumna who'd benefit plus those of us with disabilities some who can't never go and some can go to some games but aren't always able too.

I'd just assume get a root canal, but it's for the kids...
Have fun..I used to love to go to Disney world. First time I was a kid we went the first summer it opened back then you didn't pay to get in but went to booths and bought tickets for each ride some rides like the Peter Pan ride was free.
My senior year in high school went twice once on senior trip then back with family it was the first year of Epcot. Last time flew me my two daughters and my oldest niece went with us because I'm widowed down there about 15 years ago and went to all of them. Amusement parks was our thing but I can't ride them anymore

A little history on Mitchell's oldest rival:

Mitchell played their very first game in 1975, against non other than Avery. The final score was 0-0, and would set the tone for the next 5 decades.
Mitchell currently holds the all-time record 24-23-1
The 2 teams have played at least once a season since 1975
They have played twice in one season 4 times;
Mitchell swept in 94
They split in 10
Mitchell swept in 11
Avery swept in 12
Avery dominated the 70's 4-0-1
Mitchell dominated the 80's 8-2
Avery took the 90's 4-7
Avery dominated the 00's 8-2
Mitchell took the 10's 9-4
There have been 25 games decided by one score or less
There have been 14 games decided by 3 points or less, including an 8 game stretch from 91-97
There have been 5 games decided by 1 point
Mitchell's longest win streak was 7 (84-90)
Avery's longest win streak was 5 (76-80) (97-01) (03-07)
Mitchell has recorded 5 shutouts
Avery has had 2 shutouts
The highest scoring game was in 09 (41-38 Avery)
The lowest score was a 0-0 tie
The Rivalry has always been a heated, but respectful one, with it coming to a pinnacle in 2010, when the two met in Newland in the 3re round of the 1aa playoffs. Avery, 10-3 and #2 seed, was led by gunslinger Alex Villeneuva, and was a state championship contender. Mitchell, sitting at 7-7 and a #15 seed, was led by Justin "Juggy" Hughes and his high speed ground attack. Mitchell had seen much turmoil that season, losing 6 starters to a horrific car accident days before the first game. Avery had cruised thru most of the season, beating Mitchell 14-7 in the season finale. On a cold, windy Black Friday, Mitchell absolutely dominated the Vikings 47-22, in Newland, to go to the Western Final, the farthest the Mountaineers had been to that point.

My oldest brother played three years for Bowman Bulldogs and his senior year was the center and co-captain for the first Mitchell team..they thought it best to have one captain from Bowman and one from Harris.

Another thought going into tomorrow night our corners and safety's need to be on their a game and work hard tomorrow evening I been watching film from last week we would have lost if it wasn't for our linebackers, I saw a few where they backpedaled 30 or more yds to break up a td, this isn't acceptable going into the playoffs cover your man go Mountaineers

The 95 game was one of the only games coach riddle lost to Avery. It placed what I think was one of the best Mitchell teams ever in a 3 way tie for 1st. We lost the coin flip. My favorite win was the 90 game where they sent us funeral flowers before the game.

This is by far my favorite game on the schedule. I have more family that have graduated from Mitchell then Avery (not to mentionon on the/the coaching staff now). I remember those games in the 90's. Arguably the best and most heated this rivalry has ever been. Those were the days when Heritage was a team you scheduled for a win on homecoming and the biggest game of the season was the last one on the schedule. Oh how things have changed. Look forward to the game tomorrow night, but mostly looking forward to the day when we can get some what back to the 90's.

It does seem the local Avery County names become less and less as years go by on their teams, which is completely understandable when you see how the blue collar local families have been pretty much uprooted from Linville to Banner Elk and Beech Mountain and replaced with wealthy families from south Florida. This is slowly happening all across the mountains, but it is happening at a lot faster pace in upper Avery county and covid has only sped it up even quicker when everyone decided they wanted to be isolated in the mountains.

I still love this game, but it has definitely lost some luster in the last decade. This was the game I always wanted to win more than any game on the schedule because up until the last decade Heritage was an afterthought in football, plus for me personally I just had more connections with Avery county than Yancey with half my family being from there and working my entire life there. Like someone said earlier though even though this is a heated rivalry it has almost always been a respectful rivalry with mostly good sportsmanship and the kids getting along off the field, something that can't always be said about Mitchell's rivalry with Heritage and Avery's rivalry with Watauga.

I think this game could be closer than some might expect with it being senior night at Avery and their big play ability in the passing game. The gap will definitely be closing in the next few years as I see Avery competing for conference championships in a couple or 3 years from now with the talent they have coming up.
