And I don't see them going back to having 2 permanent interdivisional games like before 2000. The only way to move Auburn east and let Alabama play UT and AU every year would be to also move Alabama east and bring UK or Vandy west. That ain't happening.

Currently, it's an eight-game schedule... 5 divisional games, 3 interdivisional games-- 1 being permanent, 2 rotating.

A 9-game schedule could mean 6 divisional games, 3 interdivisional games with 2 being permanent and 1 rotating-- it could be something like this:

Western - Eastern permanent:
Alabama - Auburn, Tennessee
Arkansas - Tennessee, South Carolina
LSU - South Carolina, Florida
Mississippi - Vanderbilt, Georgia
Mississippi State - Kentucky, Florida
Texas A&M - Kentucky, Georgia
Missouri - Vanderbilt, Auburn

As much as I would love to see Bama/Aub to the East and Vandy/KY to the West, I just don't see the SEC putting 4 of the traditional Big 6 in the same division. I'm actually starting to think the SEC may just tell Bama that they can choose either Auburn or Tennesse, but not both, as a permanent oponent.

In addition to some teams having significantly tougher schedules year after year, you would also face the non-permanent teams only 2 out of every 8 years. Right now it's 2 out of every 5. If we went to 7 teams per division and had only 1 rotating game, it would be 2 out of every 10 years, instead of 2 out of every 6 (assuming we keep 2 rotating games).

At least all the west teams in this scenario are facing universities that previously won MNCs, and I think this would be a good setup-- even taking into account rotational issues.

I dont see this happening either.

I think I like the idea of everyone have 3 or 4 permanent conference opponents (as long as it can be balanced) and rotating the remaining 5 or 6 games between the rest of the league.

17 no to Ruston. Add Tulane if you want to screw with LSU. Every other year to New Orleans road trips = winning.

Bring back Tulane if we're using that logic. It would also make USM mad that another Mississippi school got in the SEC before them.

Heck, I would rather add Louisina-Monroe or Louisiana-Lafayette before I added La Tech.

Number 15... maybeUSF or UCF & just for the heck of it since they have no athletics teams-- #17 would be MUW.
