When Stoops was hired I wanted Petrino, if Petrino was a no go I wanted Butch Davis. I'd still take Butch in a second. IMO he's the best coach that UK might have a chance to hire.
Davis intrigues me, too. Someone mentioned the trio of Tressel, Tubberville and Davis, and of those 3 I prefer Davis by a good margin. Hard for me to see the other 2 recruiting well at all (maybe Davis couldn't recruit either, who knows)....

Do people not realize what probation does to a program? He was coaching with around 60 players.

Kiffin is a top 5-10 offensive mind in football. Big time name. Id kill to have him

He was coaching around 60 players that he could recruit from his backyard. 60 LA county recruits could probably beat 80 Kentucky recruits.

Furthermore, Sarkasian won with those same players as soon as Kiffin left. Shoot, orgeron was winning with them.

Kiffin is a great offensive mind when he has great talent. He is regularly out schemed by defensive coordinators but relies on talent to bail him out. Watch this past WKU game and you will see it.

Kiffin is mediocre at best and I doubt he would win as many as stoops.

Are you being serious? He admitted to investigating things in house during his interview with ABC.
What do you mean investigating in house? Did he tell the police who were investigating to back off? How did he try to keep it in house?

I've always been high on Butch. He learned under Jimmy Johnson and he had a knack for finding those under the radar players nobody else recruited and coach them up. Portis, Santana Moss, Ed Reed, etc.

He was cleared by the NCAA of any wrongdoing at UNC and he's 64, so there's a good chance he'd stay and coach here till he retired.

He's said he wants to coach again, but nobody's given him a shot. I think I'd roll the dice with him.

Asked about an alleged gang rape in 2011 involving a Baylor women's volleyball player and multiple football players, Briles declined to say much, calling it an "ongoing situation." Briles said it was a "sketchy incident" and that there were "different versions of what transpired." Asked what he did upon learning of the allegations, Briles answered, "It was investigated within our staff."

Look up the definition of insanity and that fits hiring Lane Kiffin to a tee. Guy has rode his Dad's coattails all his life and is a mediocre coach who has no clue how to run a program. Any KY fan that thinks that guy could win here needs to step away from the alcohol.
He kind of reminds me of Mark Stoops. A really good coordinator that can recruit and is a big rah rah guy. He's just not able to cut it as the head coach.

sub standard list. career NFL guy, failed former head coach who couldnt win at bigger more high profile programs, & 3 small school guys.

Butch Davis, Jim Tressell, Tommy Tubberville. veterans who have built & won at power 5 schools. lets copy the Jerry Claiborne/Rich Brooks model in the future since it somewhat worked for us in our past.
Claiborne was a good man but I don't recall him being successful at UK.

Yes, he had one strong season, but even that was with a team made up largely of Curci players. His teams were always competitive but they were not highly successful on the field. He ran a tight ship and rarely got blown off the field. There is something to be said for having coaches with maturity and experience.

Rex Ryan will be a coordinator in the NFL if/when he gets fired from the Bills.
I doubt that. But what I would worry about is Rex coming here, being completely disinterested, and just collecting a paycheck.

On the other hand, he could probably be a one man recruiting show, and all of his assistants could focus on nothing but development.

How many times under Claiborne ,only needed to win at Vandy.to go bowling, and get beat each time! I was a witness to that fiasco each time! So lets quit using that as a baseline ,good guy but past his prime when our ignorant AD's got around to hiring him!

Doesn't Brohm and his entire family hate UK? I think he's waiting for Petrino to slip up at UofL and then he'll take that job.
Greg Brohm is a friend of mine...

I don't think that they're necessarily "fans" of any particular school anymore.

Football is a business to them now.

I don't think they "hate" UK, and if the offer was good I think Brohm would come, especially because it's close to home.

Likely for this reason

http://www.cbssports.com/college-fo...mike-leachs-epic-participation-trophies-rant/

0-2 to start the year so its kind of a lateral move

He started 0-2 last year as well and ended up 9-4 at a school with possibly even fewer recruiting advantages than UK and against at least a similarly tough schedule, so let's see how he finishes up this year before we write him off.

I think he would at least make us competitive on a regular basis and has proven at both WSU and TTU that he can knock off the big boys regularly.

JMO but I think if we were rid of Barnhart that would be a giant step forward. Then anyone of those names plus several hundred others would probably work out.

Ryan doesn't seem like the type of guy that would enjoy the recruiting part. I don't think he likes....well....moving

1. Rex Ryan
2. Lane Kiffin
3. Neal Brown
4. PJ Fleck (Western Michigan head coach)
5. Jeff Brohm

MJ just mentioned this on KSR. Said #1 and #2 would definitely make things fun, but he'd take any of these in a heart beat if Stoops doesn't work out. But he still hopes Stoops can make it work.

That's his thing, recruiting ... and then developing that talent. A lot of his guys were nobodies when he got em and became all timers. Happened way too often to be a fluke. Heck, he had that UNC roster with some NFL guys. The man has been around a lot of great football minds through his years.

I too think he really wants to coach and would take it.

I REALLY like Davis. He is a fantastic recruiter and developer. But, that said, it's a moot point for at least two reasons: (1) even though completely absolved by the NCAA, he was investigated at UNC, thus Barnhart will not touch him; and (2) Barnhart WILL NOT buy out Stoops.

You guys inability to answer simple questions is stunning.

We didn't have to answer, bruh...Briles himself answered all your questions on National TV last Saturday.

Seriously, I wasn't being an ***, I honestly thought you were doing one hell of a troll job.

I've intentionally not posted my opinions on football because to be quite honest, I'm one of the fans the hardcore football fan despise. Basketball first and I'd be forever content with football winning 6 games and going to some worthless afterthought of a bowl game.

That said - I'd like to actually comment on the role M.J. has. KSR has done more to keep my interest in football post Tim Couch than anything a coach or player has done on the field. Honestly without KSR, I'd have little knowledge of the players. I doubt the casual fan would know who Elam is nor would they care. The reason I say this is because its a preface to the point I'm about to make.

KSR has helped to create a monster in fan expectations regarding UK football. Understand, I realize UK football has a large number of dedicated fans but the exposure the UK program has received on a daily basis from the KSR blog (and consequently the radio show) has really driven fan interest beyond the hardcore dedicated.

Joker and Stoops have both benefited and felt detrimental effects of the KSR reach into the fanbase.

After the Florida loss, I was a bit surprised at the almost uniform condemnation of both Stoops and Mitch, as well as the commentary about UK football generally tossing in the towel on the site. Not one but multiple posts for consecutive days on the program, with breakdowns on well..where we broke down to a detailed explanation of the coaches buyout.

This is noticeable to me in one sense, KSR has officially broken their once cardinal rule of not pissing off the UK administration in order to maintain access and grow their "product".

I just wonder if that is a "we are big enough to be on our own and UK needs us as much as we need them" kind of thing or if UK football is just such a easy target, there is seldom any repercussions for public disdain for the state of the program?

At any rate, perhaps MJ is going for a similar analogy following LBJ observing Cronkite turning on him after the TET offensive in Vietnam. "If I've lost Cronkite, I've lost the nation" - is at a macro level "If I've lost Matt Jones, I've lost the Kentucky fanbase"

Brown probably has time to prove whether he is a candidate for the job. People love Brohm. I have liked Jeff since he was QBing at Trinity and Dennis Lamply was trying to sneak up on him in the hallways, but should we believe that he can do better at UK than he has at WKU?

I, too, am a bit surprised that Jones et al. are not "toeing the company line" in regard to their candid remarks about Mitch and the football program. Also, though I can't comprehend the thinking, I appreciate your honesty regarding the football program.
