It's 6, I'm going to go ahead and pick.

The way I see it, with Spahn and Grove now gone, I have 3 options.

Option A - Take 2 pitchers because of the big run we had and another 30 picks before I go again.

Option B - Take 1 pitcher and 1 position player as a balanced response.

Option C - Go balls to the wall and take 2 position players figuring that the people who have been taking pitchers will need to start taking position players which means some more pitchers will be gone, but hopefully not a ton. Then take 2 pitchers at the the 5-6 turn.

I choose Option C. I will take the two old time megastars.

3rd round pick will be former MVP, 3 TIME World Series champion, all time doubles leader, top 20 in career ops, the Grey Eagle, centerfielder Tris Speaker.

With the 4th round pick, I came SO close to adding another member of the Big Red Machine, but I decided to go with an even better second baseman, if that was even possible. Former MVP, 4 time World Series champ, .Top 15 career OPS, top 10 all time hits, Cocky Eddie Collins.

@Cowtown Cat you're otc again for 2

Great pick getting Speaker. I was really hoping he’d last another round or 2. He hit at least .380 5 times & has the most doubles ever with 792. My only concern was if the voters would know him.

Yup he played in the dead ball era and was overshadowed a little by Ty Cobb that was why he likely fell. All-time rankings has him between #14-20 really a steal.

Sorry I’ve been real busy. I was picking out perfume at the juncture of my post. I couldn’t make a pick.

I’ll take Roberto Clemente and Pedro Martinez. I didn’t see them on the board of picks. That’s makes for a rather good outfield anyway.

I'll go with the best 3rd basemen of all time 3X MVP, World Series MVP, and 10 Gold Gloves

Mike Schmidt

I really debated going with another pitcher who will likely be picked in next 3 picks. However the World Series goes up to 7 games and I already have 3 studs who if needed will pitch 2 games so didn't want to waste my 4th pick on a pitcher who'd only go 1 game.

There is also some really great choices out of the Negro Baseball league but would be a tough sell considering a few didn't play in the Major Leagues.

Very quickly we seemed to shift down to 4 hours which is better, the 6 hour timer was just toooooooooo long.
Where was the post explaining that?

Sorry I forget that not everyone has been in my drafts. I know I said something in the sign up post but usually I only give one day or two for 6 hours. Once we get rolling I like to shorten it to 4 hours to speed up the draft.

With these long drafts it’s better to try and keep everyone engaged

imo we should suggest 3 starters, 2 relievers, 1 closer next time. with the best pitchers ever, we shouldn’t need 4 starters for 1 series. as it is you’d be making a big choice by selecting a 4th starter as your 4th pitcher instead of a reliever that can give 1-2 innings multiple games in a row. it’d also allow the common baseball discourse of “i’ll have this guy go 5, this guy 2, this guy 1” etc if some wish to approach it that way.

on the same note we should have 4 subs. 1 outfield, 1 catcher, 1 middle infielder, 1 utility (speed, more fielding, or a dh power hitter). that way all the possible subs that actually occur in such a series will be possible and one can define the type of team they wish to be even more acutely. at worst people will learn and research more, things like “left handed catcher” that they wouldn’t otherwise.

He won the NBA draft, now he's a diva, picks when he wants.
A diva?! Nah, was just letting y’all know that I was aware. I couldn’t make a pick. The only picking I was able to make at that time were perfume and two pairs of heels for the wife. [smoke]

Norse beat more than one person to Schmidt. Sort of prepared for that. Think to win legit votes here you're gonna need a quality switch hitter anyway. Chipper Jones' career numbers and world series play isn't much different from Schmidt. The MVPs are. So Chipper is my man to keep the balance on both sides of the plate.

it’d also be fun to have lineup cards for the first 3 games in each head to head. it’d be more work, but making your roster work i figure is what makes this fun anyway, more so then having 15 all-star teams. just throwing out ideas to make this more comprehensive and realistic. maybe it’s too much work.

that was going to be my next pick or the one shortly after. not the same power on the right but still that has to do with attempts vs lefties also. switch hitters are a huge premium if people are going to look at this in baseball terms. i was going to take him over schmidt and i’m a phillies fan.

Give me a guy who went 11-2 in the postseason with a 2.23 ERA and 0.97 WHIP in 19 starts (133 innings). 3 World Series Rings. MVP 93 NLCS. Co-MVP 01 World Series. His career strike-walk ratio is the best in baseball since 1884 (minimum 2000 innings). Over 3000 recorded strikeouts.

In the 19 starts- this guy was given the ball 5 times in elimination games- his team won all 5. Pitched 39 innings in those starts with 1.37 ERA.

Curt Schilling.

I’m gonna go with arguably the best current hitter (when healthy) in baseball. He’s won 2 MVPs, a freaking AL triple crown, 4 batting titles, 7 silver sluggers (at 3 different positions) & offers versatility with the ability to play 1B, 3B, LF & RF. I’ll take Miguel Cabrera.
