That’s the guy. I thought it would go Ruth, Mays, Williams at the start.

I went back & forth with Gehrig & Williams for a while & settled on Lou bc of his ridiculous RBI totals & I have a different plan in mind for LF. And, Gehrig’s production never really tailed off. His last season he still hit .295 with 29 & 114 & a 932 OPS while in the early stages of ALS.

Williams has always been one of my favorite historical players too & it’s crazy to think what his career totals would’ve been if he hadn’t missed 3 of his prime seasons fighting in & being shot down in WW2. I can’t believe there still hasn’t been a movie made about him.

wow . . . Never knew that. Just awful setback. Curse of the Bambino.

Indeed, just terrible timing.

That's one of the many positives of these draft- doing research on player and learning more about them-- seeing articles on these players is pretty cool.

Don't know if csrupp is aware he's otc. But honestly, when considering the players chosen (with TW finally cleared), this could be the first really tough pick of the draft. And I could be saying that simply because I'm next. Several near-even considerations out there now floating at the top. TW was better than any of them (with maybe one exception, depending on strategy).

I don't know if this has been answered already, but of the 8 position players drafted, do we need to draft based on position?

@UKNorse should answer this. He posted more info in the original thread. I personally intend to draft by position, although outfielders may cover other outfield spots. I will draft a 2nd baseman, a 3rd baseman, etc. . . pretty sure that is the desired method.

3 complete game wins in 1967 WS.
>10 Ks per 9 inns sustained over 81 total world series innings pitched!
28 complete games of 34 starts, 1968.
2 world series titles in 3 world series appearances.

Bob Gibson

My first ever favorite player as a Cardinals fan. Good pick

Nice pick. Talk about an alpha TOR starter. There are tons of great Gibson stories but this is one of my favorites & sums him up quite well, IMO.

Dusty Baker on Hank Aaron’s advice for facing Bob Gibson: “Don’t dig in against Bob Gibson, he’ll knock you down. He’d knock down his own grandmother if she dared to challenge him. Don’t stare at him, don’t smile at him, don’t talk to him. He doesn’t like it. If you happen to hit a HR don’t run too slow, don’t run too fast. If you happen to want to celebrate, get in the tunnel first. And, if he hits you, don’t charge the mound bc he’s a Gold Gloves boxer. I’m like, ‘damn, what about my 17 game hitting streak?’ That was the night it ended.”

Yes please draft by position. Please do not field a team of 6 shortstops and try to pass it off as a contending team. You can however likely get away with having say 3 right fielders for your outfield slots.

I will be drafting by position however.

lol well Clemons was mine but I’m cool with it. Don’t have to face the public on his steroids lol

I thought about that and then realized Bonds was pick #2.

This ain't a Congressional hearing on steroids, or a spelling bee. This is make-believe baseball.

Quick question:

For the closer position, are we going to be drafting relief pitchers only for that role or could it be a starter as well?

Gibson used to say, you can have the inside corner or the outside corner, either one you want, but you can't have both. One of them is mine.

Maddox & Clemens we the best 2 I’ve seen. Good picks for sure.

Same here. Maddux is my all-time favorite pitcher. Crazy how he’d throw 85-90 pitch complete games & wrap them up in 2 hours or less. Had a handful of 90 minute masterpieces too. Don’t see many guys who are that dominant with a fastball maxing out around 92 mph. Don’t see many guys with movement on their splitters & changes like him either though.

What the hell?! I thought I saw the draft order the other day and I was like 3rd?! Could’ve sworn I read where @BigBlueFanGA was bitching about it. :) Anyway, I see how it is. That’s it, @UKNorse is cutoff! [laughing]

On a serious note, give me Stan Musial. I’m satisfied with that pick. The wife inquired about why I was typing so much and wondered what the deal was with all the emojis. She said she’ll agree with that pick. It seems right, so I’ll go with it.

Sorry, brother. I’ve been at the doctor and running errands with the wife all damn evening. I’ve made my pick. Getting close to my quality time now. ;)
You’re good, brother! Just didn’t think you had noticed. I wasn’t getting notifications for this thread at one point. Hope all is well with the doctor appointment. Soon as my son falls asleep my quality time should ensue, as well [winking]

Nothing like some good quality time. Yeah, had to go get some new slides and her some new flip flops after said appointment. Our dog ran over my slide on one of our walks yesterday. Then, I’ll be damned if she didn’t step on the same exact slide later on and broke the damn thing. :chairshot:

She picked me out two sweet *** Kentucky shirts while we were there, too. Of course, I’m ecstatic about that. The woman makes sure I’m decked out in Kentucky Blue like 24/7 seems like. Hell, we have seven Kentucky masks now even. I told her it’s gonna just be more Kentucky shirts for her to wash. [laughing]
