Thanks, but what does the slot actually mean? Is it just a guideline or are you guaranteed a certain amount of money for being picked in a particular position??
Yep, "guideline", or more or less the amount that typically has been going at those picks in recent years.

That’s why the team that drafts the player is also significant: They could have plenty of money in their pool to offer a big bonus to a later pick, or they could not have enough to sign a higher pick. And now, an SEC team can outbid the low ball offers pretty easily. A lot of moving parts.

I would go to college regardless of the draft. I would not have been ready for the competition I would have had to face.

I know a guy who went pro out of high school. Number 1 draft choice, signed for a million, out of baseball with a bum shoulder in two years.
never got past A ball. I don’t think he was ready for the pros at 18. His family was wise and banked his money.

When I listen to the guys who made it to the pros from State, college was a good thing for them. They look back at their time and say it was good for them. The pro ball is work. It’s hard to get to “the show”. It’s hard to stay there.
Sounds like he made the right decision. He goes to college & he likely never gets drafted again.

Bauer is suppose to be 44th rated prospect. 103 mph is pretty fast for a high school player. Fastest ever I think. I hope he chooses college but he has a good shot to go straight to the keague

If Bauer goes, we will know before the night ends. The only way he goes past round three, which ends tonight, would be if teams are hearing that he wants a mountain full of money and pass

60 105 picks in, Jack Bauer still on the board. How we feeling?

Once every 38 years is the definition of "kinda rare". But anyway I'm guessing we are feeling good about Bauer getting to campus but expect Harmon to take the million bucks ? Is that the general consensus ?? And obviously Parker is not coming to school.

Hope we see Bauer in maroon, and quietly hope it's not another Cerentola style college career.

I wonder if we have a shot at the other Parker twin making it to Vegas.

It’s kind of a guideline, but it also has real meaning. For one player to sign “over slot,” another player or players has to sign for less than his slot. The team’s total signing bonus for drafted players is fixed based on those slots.

(Someone can correct me if that’s not still the case. I don’t follow this at all any more.)

There are a few articles and better descriptions out there than what my attempt at describing it was. Here's a snippet of one I saw: They are arbitrary dollar figures, the purpose of which is to limit a draftee's bargaining power and put a cap of sorts on the bonus he'll command. Stated another way, it's a means to limit labor costs, which is what team owners crave above all else.

Bauer is using Scott Boras, so I suppose it's possible he ends up on campus after all. Boras being the prick he is, has hard balled several MLB vets over the past year or so.

Bauer could still go but it would take a team really liking him and having the money to pay way over slot value to get him. But just like DJ last year who got 2 million from the Giants even though he didn't go until the 4th round. We thought we would get him back but didn't happen. Only takes one team willing and able to meet the price.
