I think it's a pretty good idea...

So a 5th team from each league will get in and the 4th and 5th team (which could be the #2 and #3 in the same division) will play a one-game play-in game.

This makes the #1 overall record in the league more important. This team will play the winner of a wildcard play-in game and give them the advantage of having extra days of rest to prepare for that divisional series.2)

aren't the last two WS champs #4 seeds from the NL? It favors the #1 too much by forcing the #4 & #5 teams to pitch their ace in the first game. It will make for two exciting games though.

I like the fact that an additional Wild-Card team makes the playoffs. It'll make September even more competitive. However, I'm undecided whether I like the one-game playoff. On the one hand, it would be incredibly exciting and will draw plenty of ratings. On the other hand, let's say a 95-67 Braves team finishes 2nd in the NL East to the 96-66 Phillies, but beats out the 2nd-place Wild-Card team (Reds 88-74) by 7 games. Should it really come down to just one winner-take-all game? I might favor a 3-game series more with the 1st place Wild-Card team getting the 1st&3rd games at home.

though cutting back on the minimum 10 off days for 19 games should be priority #1.

you want an off day in the playoffs, win your damn series early.
