Being resuscitated usually has a bad outcome. Being on a ventilator afterwards is real bad. Btw, if you’re over 65 do your family and loved ones a huge, selfless favor and sign a DNR

I don't know. Usually commotio cordis happens instantly at time of impact to the chest. The idea is that the sternum compresses the heart at just the right time during an electrical depolarization of the heart to cause an arrhythmia. Usually seen in your younger teenagers before all growth plates are sealed. Line drive baseball to the chest is the most common example. An adult with shoulder pad protection is unlikely. Not impossible, but other bizarre possibilities are as likely. He could have had an underlying heart disease like hypertrophic cardiomyopathy. He could have dissected his carotid artery. He could have thrown a blood clot into his main pulmonary artery. He could have sustained cervical spine injury and compressed his spinal cord right at the base of his skull pretty much pithing him. He could've been playing with PEDs. He'll need a full trauma evaluation or, God forbid, an autopsy to really know.
