Fan Nation.
One of many mock drafts I've seen recently. The only one that went three rounds deep.
Ohio State had 10 guys chosen, Georgia and Washington 7, Alabama 6, and Michigan 5.

I saw a 2024 draft ranking of the top 300 NFL prospects in college. I believe it was from Pro Football Focus or a similar pub. RU had 2 prospects listed. Melton at #94 and Tyreem Powell at #229.

The big story lines this coming off season:
- Does Melton stay or go?
- Who do we lose to the portal?
- Who do we gain from the portal?

Of course the last two apply to all teams. It's a big IF, but if we can keep our defense relatively in tact and add a few pieces on offense, we'll be good next year.

Meanwhile, brother Bo continues to chase the dream. Juat signed to GB's 53.

Melton has slipped this year in his performance… another year would help his draft status.
I actually disagree with this...We almost never hear his name during a game- and that is a good thing for a CB. We also get to cheat on defense because we put him 1:1 so often. Melton/Longerbeam/Dixon/Loyal/Rodgers have all shown NFL ability out there all year.

For LB's - Powell is just a baller. Jennings may be a NFL prototype size.

I think people overreact to the fact that like 4 or 5 times he was targeted this year the guy Melton was covering either caught a big pass or was interfered with. But nobody notices all the times he had a guy locked up. He's an NFL corner and I don't see how people don't see that.

And a few of those PI's were complete BS...

Powell Jennings and Toure should all get a chance in a camp somewhere. There are several guys on this defense that should have solid NFL careers.

Powell has very good instincts and hits like a truck. I would love for my Titans to take a look at any of our guys.

I think Melton is having a noticeably worse year than last year. Part of the reason is that we are always putting him on an island, and rarely giving him help over the top. He gets little to no help, and that is scheme. When he gets beat, it is for bigger gains then previous years.

I would need to see a true grade from 2022 and this year to really have evidence though.

This. Many folks are commenting on Max’s improvement and I just don’t see it.
Current B1G stats for Passes Defended Efficiency had Melton ranked at #18 in the Conference. Longerbeam is much higher at #7.
And a mid season grade of CFB Cornerbacks did not have Melton in the top 25. There were 5 other B1G cornerbacks in the top 25.

Longerbeam needs to work on his hands. He's dropped a few INTs over the past two years.

He is a 3 year starter and 4 year contributor, another year will not make him better. He is NFL bound and hopefully he has a successful career.

Such a basic measure of how good a CB is yet some can’t see it even after you kindly spelled it out for them.

Longerbeam and Rodgers are also both very good. Longerbeam needs to add some weight for the next level. Rodger’s has that long frame that will serve him well. I like our safeties too but completely different positions so no need to compare. Max would also be a good Safety which is why he’s so highly rated.

Forgot Iggy too...
Now that we go through this group- damn, they are good from top to bottom. Now, if we could only get this kind of depth everywhere else.

Agree with everything- including Longerbean and weight but- he will most likely test through the roof. Kid is very long and moves his hips well.

Ok.. he was better last season than this season so his stock wouldn’t improve by returning? okay 👌
If he does leave wish him the best.

Once I saw a draft projection that had him going in the 3rd round I was pretty sure Max will be playing in the NFL next year.

Well, you said his stock dropped by returning this year, so by your own logic he can drop ever further if he has a worse year next year.

He is 22 and will not come back, even Schiano said he is the most physically ready player for the NFL on the defensive side.

If he returned for next year…would his stock rise up earlier than 3rd?

Could be interesting decision for him and his family. I don’t know if finances are involved in decision
