Mom's been through a ton of cancer her whole life. Got worse the last year and really just spent a lot of time taking care of her, her pets and the house, which was good in a ton of ways. But also taxing. Especially the last month. Passed away this past weekend and as the only relative to her, got that severely overwhelmed feeling for everything coming next. Shes at peace though and thats what's important.
My mom wasnt a sports fan at all, and as many here know, im not from Kentucky. But still, knowing how much I cared about the team, she would tune in come March and cheer on Kentucky (pretty sure she had no idea what was going on for half the game and was doing other things lol). Shed text me after big winsm Always would get me UK related Christmas gifts when she could. Stuff like that. Doing what mom's do.
Idk, just spent a lot of time here over the years. Seen similar posts. I know we have a lot of folks here who are various ages. Some lost parents, some grand parents. Some even lost children. Life is tragic, but this a great community with a ton of support. We talk to each other more than we talk to a lot of our coworkers or friends even. I think thats pretty cool and something probably overlooked by most of us a lot of times (I know I have).
Ill be back to posting on the usual forums in due time.. fantasy football, horror movies and all the like. But, having a few drinks for now and going through some old photo albums and belongings for the next week.
Cheers to you all, and cheers to my mom.![]()
My mom raised me as a single mom almost her entire life so I will never let her be alone. I owe that to her. It definitely helps with expenses these days as well. That awesome stuff F2M.. You and your Wife are good souls.
Very sorry for your loss OP. You are an excellent poster and glad you got to spend as much time with your mom as you were able to before she passed. I dread this with my parents.
Hell, I'm 37 and my 37 year old wife had stage 3c breast cancer. After surgery it's down to 2b but they can't be 100% sure the cancer is 100% gone so now she has to do radiation and then more chemo pills and IV immune treatment. And she still has to have her other breast removed and then probably ovaries removed as the cancer would be most likely to come back those places. effing mutated gene. I didn't think it would be a 16 month saga. Just want her to be better and feeling 100%.
All I do is work and then it's a 6 pack a night. I know I'm battling depression and I'm not even the one with cancer! I know I shouldn't do this as my son needs me in the darkest worst case outcome here. I need to grow up but u don't think ur wife is gonna get this at 37. Cancer doesn't care how old u are or what race u are or whatever. It sucks.
Sorry guys, idk why I shared all this. Guess it's the depression.
Oh well, at least it's football season and soon enough college hoops season.
Let it out, man. Life is tragic at times. I think this can be a good place to just collapse, have a beer (not too many in my case) and vent.
Ive had two aunts and two cousins beat breast cancer, and theyre not all related, so it wasnt some "genetic" predisposition. If you can catch it early, its very treatable. Keep looking at the various alternative treatments and also the life style changes. Like something I've see a lot of people tout, reducing sugar intake. Cancer feeds off sugar. Something like that. Idk, im drinking some bourbon and going through like 40 of my mom's accounts. You'd think this lady would have thought of auto pay?! (Sorry, love you mom!(she'd laugh at that joke, its fine))
Im glad I got to use this thread for others. Let that **** out. This is a community, dare I say a family.
She raised you well. Special lady. My Mom was in the same situation. Raised 4 kids as a single Mom from the time I was 9.My mom raised me as a single mom almost her entire life so I will never let her be alone. I owe that to her. It definitely helps with expenses these days as well.
You won’t regret it man, I love being here with her. Enjoy the time she has left. The older generations are tough man. That's why I'm pulling up stakes and moving back. My mom had a hard fight with breast cancer a few years ago, and beat that, but it's reappeared. She's 5' of Eastern Kentucky and tougher than a two dollar steak. I just want to come home, spend time with her and help her out.
Looking forward to heading home. This is the most important thing in my life now.You won’t regret it man, I love being here with her. Enjoy the time she has left. The older generations are tough man.

Sorry to hear this. Heartbreaking enough when it’s a slow death. When it’s unexpected, it’s even more cruel. My condolences to you and your family.Lost my mom unexpectedly in June. Hardest thing I've ever dealt with. Lots of grief. Hang in there.
