Some of these Pope misses are really hurting.
Crazy that Tennessee isn't spending 22 million on their roster and is able to afford several point guards and a future top 5 NBA pick.
But I've seen someone continually argue you don't need those things to win championships. It's weird that Tennessee is bothering to go after them.
If you believe we are spending 22 million on this roster, you're only lying to yourself at this point. You're under 0 obligation to believe this is a 22 million dollar roster.
We can hope that Pope after 3-4 years has continuity from the bench and then can just go after 3-4 stars to fill spots. But ultimately the question is can Pope manage the real stars or will he just go after semi-stars that fit the system.
That's because he is really good.

Two guys I really wanted to go after. I know we tried on Ament but Gillespie is the guard I really wanted after Dent turned us down.
Probably would have been difficult to get Gillespie. He really wanted to play at UT and likely would have turned down significantly more NIL money to play there.

Gonzaga is a program that I thought would die in the NIL era, especially after Hickman and Nembhard (their last batch of high-star recruits) moved on, and I thought Few would retire. Neither has happened, and what they've doing is incredible. Their model seems to be to import 1 or 2 athletic and skilled P5 players (Battle last yr, Miller this year) and rely on rigorous talent evaluation to fill the remaining spots with length and skill. Grant-Foster is a great find, no idea what they paid him, but he'd be the best player on our team. Model falls apart if they even miss on 1 position.
Really a lot like Coach Pope is trying to do (and missing on the top targets -- that needs to change!!!), but on a MUCH more limited budget. Win or lose vs Bama, it's really incredible they've been able to stay relevant. Few is a hall of famer, no doubt.

Man the Zags look really good so I'm not looking forward to that game at all.
Mark Few .........it just seems like no matter what the roster is, he has the offense rolling.
Make Bama run offense inside the 3 point line and they struggle. They’re accustomed to operating on the perimeter. That’s how Purdue beat them and Gonzaga bout to take them down.

Gonzaga's bigs just destroyed them. Alabama is weak in the front court.
His teams always play cohesive total team ball. Very unlike our Cats so far this year. We better be on fire or we will get out rebounded by 20 and ran out of Bridgestone Arena.
Gonzaga is way better than UL and MSU I'm guess we're gonna be like 10 point dogs.

I would say it’s close to that . Is it worth 22 million no not even close I think they totally wasted the money . This team combined is not even worth 5 million
