1. I aint as good as I once was, but I'm as good once as I ever was.
2. The cajun cornbread stuffed duck we brought and grilled in LF from Bergerons was one of the best things I've eaten
3. LSU has more a tad more top end talent than us- but we have a deeper team
4. We cant keep putting a muchkin team on the field. Bite the bullet and play Norris at 3rd. Porter has to be in the line-up. If Detz cant play 2nd or 3rd, then he will just have to sit on the bench- there is nowhere for him to play. But whatever happens, we need Renfroe, Rea, Slaughter, and Porter in the middle of our line-up.
5. We need to start settling on a line-up. A constant revolving door isnt helping anything. Play somebody at 3rd and 2nd for 3-4 games in a row and let them settle in some. Baseball is about getting reps.
6. I thought we pulled Lindgren a little early. He didnt pitch badly at all. Let him grow up on the mound.
7. Mitchell had a decent outing. It's a shame he cant put it all together, he has a nasty breaking pitch
8. Woodruff not being in the rotation is really hurting us. To have one of our top talents not logging innings is tough and a strain on the staff. It also would help us let Mitchell get his stuff together on Tuesdays instead of during SEC weekends.
9. Blowing Game 1 like we did sucked, but we just faced a man Saturday night. Eades showed us why he will be a 1st round pick.
10. We had at least 10 hits in every game against probably the SEC's best team. That's extremely encouraging. The next couple of staffs we face wont be close to what we just saw.
11. Mitchell is a ***** for not knocking Katz. You dont need a coach to tell you to do that. You're a damn pitcher, take control out there and show you have a set of marbles. Very disappointed by that. Glad to see our Sr in Graveman show the younger guys how its done.
12. We are one of the 3-4 best teams in the SEC. Everybody needs to take a deep breath. We beat LSU's *** one game, they beat our *** one game, and we blew a lead opening night. A good showing at Kentucky is what we need now. Winning that series will get us back on track before heading to meth country.

Cohen sometimes overdoes the managing and outsmarts himself. Put your best lineup out there and let them play. The best team we ever had played the same lineup every game of the season, with the only change being flipping the #3 and #4 hitters midway through.

Errors my friends, errors. That's what cost us those first 2 games, 2 on Fri. and 3 on Sat. We should've been out of a few innings with no damage but costly errors kept LSU alive and they made us pay. No errors on Sun. what a differance that made.
This probably goes to what C34 said about getting a constant line-up. Guys aren't getting real comfortable with one position. Settle on a line-up, leave them there, let them get comfortable and watch the errors go away.

Agree with most of your points. The Detz situation puts us in a quandry though, I mean once Rea is back and healthy he's gotta play and is a tremendous defensive 1st baseman. But there you have Detz with one of the highest batting averages on the team (if not THE highest) and is your leading RBI producer on the season. Hate to just settle for "there is nowhere for him to play". Porter had a good day Saturday and just missed the HR Sunday but I'm not sure I'm ready to start him as a LH DH over Detz unless we are playing in a small ballpark (and we will be against KY) if there truly is nowhere in the field for him to play. If Pirtle can solidify himself as the 2nd baseman then I would probably like to see Norris at 3rd against lefties and Detz against righties. I doubt Detz at third, given he can play first, is any worse than Norris or heaven forbid Frost playing 3rd. Then for DH against lefties you can bat Detz and swap over to DH Porter against righties. I've never seen Porter do much with LH pitching anyway. We need our best hitters in the lineup during the SEC unless a guy is just a true defensive gem and I don't think we have ANY of those. Heck, even Frazier will error a ball from time to time. And replacing Norris with Frost for "defensive purposes" in games is a joke since we know Frost can't reliably make a throw from 3rd.

Can't take Detz out of the lineup. No way. I honestly think Cohen sticks with pirtle b/c he is a switch hitter. Cohen is obsessed with match ups, so you have to figure that Pirtle being a switch hitter gives Cohen a serious boner.

It's very easy, play Detz at 2nd. I believe Friday was his first ever game post-HS to play 3B. He won defensive awards at 2B last season (Todd4State). He is SECOND IN THE SEC in on base %. He has to be in the lineup.

that would be the easiest way to solve things

Would agree on Detz at 2nd if Norris could show he belongs out there at 3rd every day. I wouldn't mind seeing Detz have the ability to play some 3rd because we currently have more viable options at 2nd than we do at 3rd. Pirtle, Frost, Britton and Hann can all play 2nd if needed but other than Norris we don't have a natural 3rd baseman (Frost is not an option at 3rd in my mind) because apparently Flair can't field. Hann is the only other possible option at 3rd that I've actually seen play it but not sure he is ready for prime time yet.

Hann and Britton don't make the weekend roster for me.

I'll take Norris' bat and glove at 3B/Detz plays 2B over Pirtle's bat and glove at 2B/Detz plays 3B.

Pirtle's glove is the best of the 3, yes. But.. offense/defense is NOT an even tradeoff in baseball. I'll take 4-7 more errors over the course of a season if I have Norris and Detz in the lineup. They will far and away produce more offensively than those handful of errors

Detz at second really is the answer. Bring in Pirtle at second late for defense or if we need it, same with Frost at third. Every now and then start Detz at third and Pirtle at second. But mentally those four guys...Norris/Frost/Detz at third and Detz/Pirtle at second, need to know their role game to game. Sorry Britton, Hann and the other 8 second basemen but we really need to develop continuity.

Can Detz play LF?

Instead of posting yet another lineup, I thought needed to take a different approach.

I thought we needed to break the offensive/position portion of the team into 4 categories for SEC games:

Must Start:

Frazier, Bradford, Renfroe, Detz, Rea, Slauter

Significant Time:

Henderson, Norris, Pirtle, Porter

Late Defensive Replacement, PH, or PR:

Frost, Robson, Armstrong, Fullerton

Hope for the Best on Tuesday:

Everyone else

That's 14 guys. That's more than enough to work with over the course of a reasonably close game. Cohen should aim to limit his brilliant strategies to these guys and not try to make a meal out of being an SEC coach every game. Give them an opportunity to be successful.

Speaking of which, Norris is on the verge of must start. I would just put him out there as DH or somewhere and let it ride. He's been too good for us in the past when healthy. Henderson is on the verge of dropping down a notch in my book. His defense keeps him in it, but he's a 4-6-3 away from the pine. I want to have Porter in the mix, but he's just not consistent enough to be a DH every day.

C Slauter - Ammirati
1B Rea - Porter, Norris, Detz
2B Detz - Pirtle, Frost
3B Norris - Detz, Frost
SS Frazier - Pirtle
OF Bradford
OF Renfroe
OF Henderson - Robson, Pollo can play if we have 2 injuries
DH Porter

Bench: Pirtle, Robson, Frost, Ammirati, Flair

That's 14 position players which leaves us 11 pitchers. The way Cohen uses pitchers this is good.

Lindgren, E Mitchell, Graveman, Woodruff, Holder, Pollorena, Bracewell, R Mitchell, Shelly, Girodo, Gentry

Cox, Fitts, Preston Brown can handle the midweek
Fullerton, Armstrong, Britton, and Hann aren't needed.

I know you don't like Britton, but you can't leave off a sophomore with his ability in my opinion.

There.... I bolded, underlined, and italicized the guy that should NEVER be on the bench during SEC games. I hope Cohen is an avid reader.

I think you have to bump Norris and Porter into that top category.

Like I said, Norris is close. He's got to either shore up his defense or start hitting some balls out of the park. He needs to be given more opportunities, for sure. Porter is a one trick pony. He can only DH. To be a full time DH in this league, you need to hit .325 or 10 HRs. Porter can do neither.

I don't disagree there but if Pirtle is the guy at 4, then you need Detz somewhere if not DH...

Till flair can play a position you can't put him on the travel roster. He will have to wait his time till porter leaves. They are identical players can hit with zero position.

Take those 14 you listed subtract porter, flair, ammo, slaughter. Can only play one postion.

So 10 players for 7 spots. We pitch ct we lose one more guy.

Till Rea is proven he is 100 percent we have to take an extra middle infielder in case we have play detz at 1st.

No way you put woodruff on a travel roster right now. Has second best stuff on the team but he's a head case right now.

My roster
C- slaughter, ammo
2nd detz, Pirtle
Ss Frazier, britton
3b Norris, frost
Of- renfroe, ct, Henderson, Armstrong, Robson
DH porter
14 hitters

Pitchers
Lindgren, Mitchell, graveman, Mitchell, bracwell, holder, gentry, polo, girodo, cox, Shelly.

Once woodruff is back take off shelly.

Lineup I wanna see vs UK

Frazier ss
Ct cf
Renfroe rf
Rea 1b
Detz 2b
Porter dh
Slaughter c
Norris 3b
Henderson rf

The lineup I think we get
Frazier
Ct
Renfroe
Rea
Porter
Slaughter
Norris
Pirtle
Henderson
