in the book "Freakonomics", the author has a theory that the home underdog in the NFL is often not given enough respect, and that the spread reflects that. So, he entered a betting pool and bet on the home underdog every time. Out of something like 600 entrants, he came in the top ten. He had a win percentage in the high 60's I believe. I've been planning on doing this for quite sometime but I'm always too broke.

..are you sure those are the stats for HOME underdogs against the spread and not just underdog in general?
