The rest looks pretty decent. Chipper could probably give Boggs a run for his money, and Piazza in his prime would challenge Bench as a hitter. But a solid list.

I hate picking anyone other than the Wizard, but I think Ripken gets the nod. I think I'd take Schmidt over Boggs at 3B also. I think Pujols has similar offensive numbers (much higheraverage) and is MUCH better in the field.

He's made a ton of great diving catches, but anyone who knows anything will tell you he was diving for balls that elite centerfielders caught in stride.

He couldn't hold a pre-fat Andruw Jones' cheeseburger.

Not even remotely true, great player no doubt about it, but not the best defensive center fielder of all time (if he was he would get in the hall, and jim edmonds aint getting in the hall)

for best defensive centerfield of all-time.

He has two of the top 10 plays EVER by a centerfield (over-the-should diving catch in Anaheim and robbing of the homerun in Cincy).

He may not be the bona fide number 1, but he's definitely worth arguing for.

I think its safe to say that both are right up there at the top and someone saying that Jones is vastly superior to Edmonds or Edmonds being superior to Jones is just being a little ridiculous.

C - Joe Mauer (great guy, great player)
1B - Will Clark (I'm an MSU homer)
2B - Ryne Sandberg
SS - Ozzie Smith (made defense cool)
3B - Mike Schmidt
OF - Dale Murphy (my childhood baseball hero)
OF - Tony Gwynn
OF - Ichiro Suzuki
SP - Nolan Ryan

I stayed away from roids (McGwire, Bonds, A-Rod, Clemens, etc.).This is more ofa list of my favorite good players rather than the best overall lineup.

C - Ivan Rodriguez
1st - Pujols (McGwire gets some consideration)
2nd - Roberto Alomar (followed closely by Sandberg and Jeff Kent)
SS - Barry Larkin (this was tough - Jeter and Ripken both deserve a mention)
3rd - George Brett (over Wade Boggs)
OF - Ricky Henderson
OF - Kirby Puckett
OF - Tony Gwynn
(Bonds, Manny, Vlad, Griffey, Larry Walker, Andre Dawson, Edmonds, Willie Stargel would all be good picks in the OF)
P - Greg Maddux (tough call over Randy, Pedro, Nolan, and Clemens)

DH - Bonds

vastly superior, no, but Andruw was clearly better than Edmonds. He had better range, particularly to shallow center, and the better arm by far.

You look at how he was when he played for Texas. He was huge. Some of that was him being a little chubby but he had some serious muscle mass too.

C- Johnny Bench- pretty much the best all around catcher of all-time.
1B- Albert Pujols- Not a homer pick by the way, just the truth.
2B- Ryne Sandberg- Could run and play solid defense to. Obviously could hit and hit for power.
3B- Mike Schimidt- Best third baseman of all time. Practically refined the barehand throw to first.
SS- Derek Jeter- Just does everything right. Very underrated until you watch him in person.
RF- Tony Gwynn- The man was a machine. It's a shame it's not Daryl Strawberry.
CF- Ken Griffey, Jr- May or may not have been as good as Edmonds defensively, but there's no question that he's the better all around player.
LF- Barry Bonds- Love him or hate him, his numbers speak for themsleves.
DH- Manny Ramirez- Check his numbers out.

P- Roger Clemens
Closer- Mariano Rivera

I hate to pull the "I'm a coach" card, but.... I'm not only a baseball coach, but I have coached outfield for over a decade at every level below college ball. I think that qualifies me as someone who "knows anything," and I say he is arguably the greatest of all time. There are others (including Jones) who may be better, but to say Edmonds isn't in the conversation is just stupid. The clip C34 posted is the hardest play to make in baseball, and possibly in all of sports.

Roberto Alomar .300 AVG, 210 HRs, 1134 RBI, 1508 runs, 2724 hits, 474 stolen bases, 10 gold gloves

Ryne Sandberg 285 AVG, 282 HRs, 1061 RBI, 1318 runs, 2386 hits and 344 stolen bases, 9 gold gloves

For those scoring at home....Alomar has more RBIs, runs, hits, stolen bases, hit for a higher average, and had more gold gloves, Ryno hit more home runs.

Who's the homer now?

For the record, as a 8 or 9 year old, I had a blue Chicago Cubs fitted hat with "SANDBERG" painted on the back. I used to idolize that guy because we had the same first name.<div>
</div><div>Here's a couple reasons why Cards fans did not pick Ryno:</div><div>1) As Kurt Rambis will tell you, Cards fans are the smartest baseball fans in the world. We know more than you, so just get over it.**</div><div>
</div><div>
</div><div>2) Ryne Sandberg - 2164 Games, 8385 AB, 2386 Hits, 1318 Runs, 282 HR, 1061 RBI, 344 SB, .285 AVG, .453 SLG, 9 Gold Gloves</div><div>
</div><div>Roberto Alomar - 2379 Games, 9073 AB, 2724 Hits, 1508 Runs, 210 HR, 1134 RBI, 474 SB, .300 AVG, 443 SLG, 10 Gold Gloves</div><div>
</div><div>Joe Morgan - 2649 Games, 9277 AB, 2517 Hits, 1650 Runs, 268 HR, 1133 RBI, 689 SB, .271 AVG, .427 SLG, 5 Gold Gloves</div><div>
</div><div>Craig Biggio - 2850 Games, 10876 AB, 3060 Hits, 1844 Runs, 291 HR, 1175 RBI, 414 SB, .281 AVG, .433 SLG, 4 Gold Gloves</div><div>
</div><div>
</div><div>First, Ryne Sandberg didn't have the longevity that Alomar, Morgan, and Biggio had. Second, Alomar, Biggio, and Morgan had basically the same power that Ryne had, yet these guys were "lead-off" hitters, where Sandberg was a 2, 3, or 5 guy. Sandberg trailed all of them in steals, runs, and rbi's as well. The only thing Sandberg definitively did better was hit for extra bases (as evidenced by him leading the SLG category). </div><div>
</div><div>I'd honestly think that I would take Morgan, Alomar, Biggio, and Sandberg in that order, for best 2B since 1970.</div><div>
</div><div>
