Chad Ford is saying that Monk has a 45 inch vertical. I don't know how official it is, and presumably if it's accurate it was just for one lucky jump. But it still bears saying (if Monk ever did hit 45" anywhere) that the highest single lucky jump ever recorded for an NBA player was 46 inches. Regardless that number for Hawkins is definitely official and definitely crazy.

To think that UK has not one but two guys that can hit 45 inches on their verts is, well, phenomenal!

That KSR article also mentioned that Chad Ford lists Fox as the #5 PG prospect.

That sounds like an insult - and I hope Fox takes it that way - until you realize that Ford also has Fox going 10th in the draft.

Talk about a loaded class.

I don't know what the official number is, the kid can jump. When you have hops like this kid has and can also shoot the ball, the future is bright. It is crazy to think that Kentucky has two guards with that type of hops. Watching Hawkins play, you can tell the kid can jump, but even still I wouldn't have guessed his hops were that impressive.

Reporters and web sites always push up verticals. The real one is the official one and although it's not 45 it is still elite

Memphis had a Wilson guy in the early
70's that had a 57" vertical. Later played for Globetrotters.

Wilson was one of the great leapers. He could dunk on a 12 foot rim. However, do the math on that 57" vertical. He's 6'7". 57"= 4'9". That would mean he could get his head 16 inches over the rim. He was one of the guys who actually could get his head over the rim, but 16 inches would have been mid-chest. And that's just a "not on this planet" type of thing.

Maybe I'm just wrong, but I don't actually believe Dom can jump higher than Monk. I've watched every game, I just have trouble seeing that

Old vertical testing and grabbing change is a lot of b.s.If it wasn't done at a combine it didn't happen.

What I'm saying is when I see the two jump, it just doesn't look like it. I've seen the numbers. It wouldn't be hard to know that if you read my post in the context of the discussion, where combine numbers were already mentioned.

Monk has 5 inches on Hawkins in standing reach.

Also, the reality is that players perform differently with a ball in their hands.

Like @Aike mentioned they are 2 different players. Dom is not a high flyer but a high jumper - lots of guys like him.

And to be totally honest - I'm not willing to bet the house on the accuracy of UK's combine numbers.

I believe jameel pugh for umass a few years ago had a 50+ vertical. Probably the reason he struggled so much shooting

Sometimes our thoughts dont come across as clear as we hope on these posts, especially to us slow ones, I really thought you were totally dismissing the notion of Dom's vert being higher. All good, not the first time I've missed the point.

I posted this in a different thread the other day...

I was playing ball with a guy last year. 6'3" and about 300 pounds. Athletic enough to play D-1 football.

He said that a couple years ago, Dom dunked all over him in a pickup game and there was nothing he could do about it.

Hawkins has all kinds of hops. However, Monk has a couple of gears that other guys don't.

I went to school at Danville. Some of you might remember Donnie Redd, who was blazing fast and played running back at UK.

There was another guy on those Danville teams who was faster than Donnie, but never touched the ball.

I won't name him because there is no point trying to embarrass someone. Just making the point that there is a world of difference between being an elite athlete and executing athletic plays.
