These are the kinds of things that can happen when you don't go to school. He can never get his education now. I hope he thinks about that when he's sleeping on a pile of money inside his mansion.

I just hope he will live like a king on half of his money and put the rest away so that he isn't detailing cars in Jackson for a living when his NBA career is over.

It wasn't a tragedy, it was yet another example of these jacka$$ agents hyping these players up "you are a sure lottery pick", and they are not even close.

If he had come to state and played one year, he probably would have been a first rounder, maybe a lottery pick the next year.

but he'd be better served getting geared up to take Business Policy this year. $67 mill is not really anything unless you know how to run an airline.

happier for Monta. He deserves it. He took a chance and it worked out for him. He need to take a page out of J Rocks book and put some of it back into the community.

He certainly doesn't need to do anything with his money besides what he wants to do with it. It'd be nice for the rest of us if he did come back and invest the community a bit though. I've been looking for an article I found not to long ago, but I can't seem to locate it right now. Anyway, it was written in his second year in the league and he said his goal was to get to the point where he was good enough to get a fat contract so he could build some community centers and such in his old neighborhood. I don't know if he still feels that way, but it at least makes me think we won't see this guy washing cars anytime in the future.

He's played - what? - two years in the NBA and he just signed for $67 million. And you think he would have been better off going to Mississippi State?

That's what YOU would have told him to do? And you question the advice of "jacka$$ agents"?

Seriously.

It looks like to me Monta got outstanding advice. I bet his agent is in his Fave 5.

Yes......I realize this. I was just suggesting that this be something he might want to do. If somebody is blessed enough to make 11 million a year and they don't give anything back its a shame. I have seen those articles where he talks about giving back, so that is a good sign.

but in that article, Bender said something along the lines of.. "Growing up, I wanted to be rich like an NBA player. When I got to the NBA, I saw the owners and wanted to be rich like them."

In that thread that devolved into arguing about which pro league was more thuggish, somebody posted a list of NBA arrests over a few years. The guy who compiled that list was doing a study trying to relate years educated in college to future "thuggery" in the NBA. Turns out, as the years of college decreased, so did the percentage of each sample that got into trouble.

Ask Mario Austin and Jamont Gordon about how great these jacka$$ agents are. Ask all the other players that were told by their "agents" that they are a "sure thing" that didn't even get drafted.

And do not distort what I said - I said that had he come to state for ONE YEAR, he probably would have been a first round pick, maybe even a lottery pick. He sat on the bench most of his rookie season for Golden State when he could have been getting significant playing time and showcasing his skills.

Look, I know you would have loved to have painted your chest for the LF Rick's Rowdies shot while Monta was dropping about 25 ppg for the Dawgs. Sorry he ruined your dreams while he pursued his own.

Mario Austin's agent got him a good deal in Russia. And Jamont didn't need an agent to convince him he was done in Starkville.

The problem with people like you is you have no idea how much these guys would get screwed if they didn't have an agent.

And trust me, Monta was getting every bit as good his first year at Golden State as he would have playing in the SEC.

Again, I'm glad - and more importantly I'm sure Monta's glad - that you were not his agent. Because we would be calling you a jackass agent without the $$$ signs.

So you are either an agent, an agent sympathizer or an agent wanna-be.

Don't start nuthin' and there won't be nuthin.

Yeah, it's much better to play for free in college than to pull in a measly 700k for a few years. Besides, one gets far more attention from people in the NBA when he's playing college ball than when he's playing for some NBA team.

I wonder if Monta will give us all the money we spent on him before he decided to go pro?
