That same Marist who got their clocked cleaned in the only difficult game on their schedule?
May be one of the most improved teams in the area. Unfortunately MC has been headed in the opposite direction.

MC is 7-1 with that schedule too. I'll buy when they are in the quarterfinals, but the state of the ESCC strongly resembles Syria this year, which isn't helping.

Although, not as bad as a certain team from Lombard against Rice.
Yes they got beat badly by Rice at the beginning of the year but have steadily improved on defense and offense with underutilized and some injured players getting back into the fray. I would think Montini would give Marist a heck of a game at this point of the season and might pull off another upset of a much bigger school.

So you are saying the Rice game needs to be taken in context, because of the improvement of Montini? Rice / Marist occurred in Week 1. Marist graduated almost all of their offensive skills from last year's 8A runner up team. Is it possible that Marist is greatly improved since Week 1 or has significant improvement only occurred in Lombard, since they apparently have cornered the market on it?

Don't agree that MC is going in a negative direction. They have lost to some really good teams by less than 7 points a game and IMO will be a team nobody wants to face in the playoffs. Their QB Thomas is really good on the option and their running back has speed and size and has broken some nice runs for TDs. Definitely wouldn't bet against the caravan going forward.

Allow me to retort. It's not that Marist hasn't gotten better, it's that there is no way to gauge their success. The ESCC is a dumpster fire this year, so how are we to interpret their wins?

I am sure that Marist has improved as well as most of the teams with a lot of juniors playing Varsity ball for the first time. I am not trying to put down Marist as they have a good football program and players. Montini was a state champion last year too and graduated a lot of talented players also. With the exception of maybe six or seven players Montini is new at most of the positions on offense and defense. Too bad we couldn't get a game next year to see which team has improved the most.

In the playoffs....maybe you are right, maybe not. It will all play out in the postseason.

If Waubonsie wins next week over Wheaton North, they could be matched up against Marist in the early rounds. I think this would be a 2015 Semi-Final rematch game that would be very interesting. WV much better than their 4-4 record.

Depends on which WV team shows up on any given Friday......WV Jeckel or WV Hyde.

If WV doesn't turn the ball over - they can play well and hang with nearly anyone. When they turn it over 2,3,4 times and don't claw back any - they lose.

In their 24-17 loss to Neuqua they turned it over 3 times. NV turned it over once
In their 33-16 loss to NC they turned it over 4 times. Think NC had zero, can ck later.
In their 17-14 loss to Naperville North WV 2 turnovers (and north had zero turnovers)
In their 24-21 win over Metea they turned it over 2 times and Metea zero turnovers.

So to make a long story short - 2 turnovers seems to be the Mendoza line for WV. If they turn it over 2+ times against really good teams and WV doesnt claw any turnovers back - it doesn't end well for WV. When they protect the rock they have won every time.

I hope the WV protecting the rock team shows up this coming Friday. I will call that team Dr Jeckel. Mr Hyde will be the team that has the turnover fest parties!

MC D just doesn't have it this year, Cant stop anyone when needed. Taylor didn't even touch the field on D. Offense has done some things. Defense was already a Question mark heading into the year then losing Griffith just exacerbate things.
