Has the Prince returned?
The downside of playing guys both ways is that you don't have them fresh for the 4th quarter which most games are won or lost in the 4th quarter. Montini was never competitive playing 7A and 8A schools until they refused to play guys both ways.
They are playing guys more both ways this year and I don't know if it's due out of need (only 700 students in HS) or what??

They are young. Many juniors on the field. Not many seniors contributing at a high level. It has nothing to do with enrollment, more to do with composition of the team.
They will be fine next year, and this year will be a test. Let's see if they can rise to the challenge.

Except ours are sophs. We're playing 9 sophs and 1 frosh and we're so close to breaking through. How bout it?

I thought Marmion had decent size on the O-line. Dont' know about previous years except for lower level games. In the stands a fan commented that Montini was playing the game not to lose rather than playing all out to win. Some questionable play calling on offense in short yardage situations such as 2 down and a yard to go and we run an QB option and a pass. Even the announcer on the Cube commented that he didn't understand why those plays were called and neither do I. I enjoy your posts on this forumNot overly impressed with either team. Montini defense played a lot of bend but don't break. Marmion was oddly not normal Marmion sized. Usually a few houses on the o-line. Too many tackles by safeties for Montini. Need to roll with Nick Orlando as the permanent QB starter.
Prince's dad said he will be out for the DLS game but will be back the week after. Will Smith is doing a great job running the ball but having Prince back will definitely make a difference in Montini's offenseHas the Prince returned?
It was an ugly win to say the least. Defense has been a problem all year and IMO is reactive not attacking altho they did show some blitzing in the Marmion game. One holding call let to a touchdown being negated and another negated a pretty nice gain. They definitely have to get that corrected against DLS.I thought the same. Not really impressed with the win. I'm OK with the bend don't break defense if we are trying to create turnovers but otherwise that defense is too passive.
Really disgusted with the number of penalty's especially the holding calls. Is there a way not to have both #69 and #62 play both ways? It seems a key ingredient in the Bronco success in the past is not to have our lineman playing both ways. Why are we playing these two, although good players both ways?
At least the offense was not as predictable as the previous games. I still don't think we have a few of our players playing the right positions. I like having Slater out there more at DE but we need to load him up on cafeteria food. He adds speed to our defense. I think we have to get #72 in more on the d-line. We need to get bigger on the d-line. Nice to see Cooper back.
On offense I still think we need to get #26 on the offensive side of the ball to maximize our offense. I really think outside of getting Walker back, adding # 26 on offense at times would really be the missing ingredient and give the offense a jolt. We have many guys who can play LB so we should be able to rest #26 at times on defense so he can play on offense at times also. Need to find ways during the game to get Orlando more time at QB.
Still not impressed with the team at all.
Montini must beat DeLaSalle this upcoming week or they will not make the playoffs. I would favor DeLaSalle in this one also.

A lot of juniors on this team most of whom did not play a down last year with the varsity, altho a few played some downs in the 4th quarter when we were winning big. I think Norgle had the most playing time with the varsity last year but don't know when he is going to be back with his broken finger. They are young. Many juniors on the field. Not many seniors contributing at a high level. It has nothing to do with enrollment, more to do with composition of the team.

Montini has a lot of guys playing both ways. Linemen and defensive backs mostly . Your right about people in the stands making observations such as what you commented on. Joe spivak gets double teamed on most defensive plays and is a very good blocker on the offense. I am unaware of who our TE is much less making a catch this year. As Wassup mentioned we had a LB who could make a big impact on offense at either the slot or running back but Montini coaches haven't use him that much on offense. Both Quaglia and Orlando play in the defensive backfield and on offense at WR and QB. Both are really good athletes so things look bright for us next year for sure but we need them as play makers this yearQuestion: Is Montini starting to rotate more guys into playing both ways with "breathers/rests"? I'm wondering why more teams don't do this - play their very best 3 to 4 players both ways in certain games to ensure making the playoffs.
I know Spiviak plays both ways - but what about some others that could make an impact?
Every team has guys that everyone in the stands can see would make a big impact on the other side of the ball. Examples:
* Olineman that could kill it and/or demand double teams on Dline
* TE that could be fantastic rush end DE
* RB that could impact at LB or SS
* WR that could impact at DB
And of course vice versa if the kids primary position is on Defense.
The soph team has looked really good in the games I have watched. They have brought up a couple of sophs already and #51 is a really good LB. I take it you go to most of the games and I am wondering if you have any thoughts on the teams struggles this year.Montini loses to DLS this Friday and a bunch of sophs will be playing the following week. Some years you have to suck it up and build.
He plays very well for a soph. I heard his brother was a pretty good player too. Must run in the family. Jackson is a big kid and I heard his name mentioned as a tackler during a couple of games. I see he is only a junior so he will be counted on next year as a starter, so the more playing time he gets the better. #62 and #69 do play most of the game so it would be good in Jackson could spell them more often.Gene,
Nice call on #51 Bruschenelli. He is really playing well at MLB and very young. His brother is a LB at Univ. of Cincinnati. We need to keep him there for the next 3 years.
#72 is Brian Jackson who plays on the DL. He is big but not fast but I think he could spell #62 and #69 more often to give them a break. I don't even like these guys playing both ways. They will have nothing left for the 4th Q when we really need them.
If Malik comes back that would be great. I was thinking he may be out for the year. I think Malik and Hynes best position is at LB but the coaches must need them on the line. I think they just don't have the size to be on the line. I really like Slater on the line and like you said if he puts on 25-30 pounds this guy could be awesome. Right now he is doing a good job and he is undersized as a lineman.
With #26 as running back you know both you and I really like him there. I just don't think a few touches during the game is his style. He seems to be more the running back you keep feeding him the ball and the better he gets during the game. We at least need him in the slot (as a shortstop he has good hands so don't have to worry about drops and he's the typical CCL Blue type of downhill runner). Playing the slot he would really open up room for West, Shilgalis and Quaglia.
Morrissey did make a few real nice throws last week and seems to work well with his brother but still was not completely happy with his performance. If all QB's are healthy, I hate to do this at this time of the season but I would rotate them every offensive series until someone gets hot or can win the position.
I too would like to hear more from mchsalumni. He's very good at breaking everything down. I have a suspicion he has ties closer to the program and has to be more careful on here than us.
