move him to LB. Would make sense given we could use another talented player at that position and he might get to see regular playing time a lot more early at that position. If so, maybe he just really didn't want to make the move.

That could be the whole story, but I don't know. I seem to recall his stock dropping a bunch right before signing day. He didn't seem to impress his coaches in the practices leading up to the Army (or Underarmor) AA game. He may just be one of those guys that dominated in high school because of his size, but doesn't quite have what it takes to play runningback against quality college defenses. Either way, it seems like a hasty move by a freshman.

Offers from USC, Oklahoma, LSU, etc. and he chooses to come to MSU. I'm a homer and all but I can view things realistically from time to time....and you just don't choose MSU over the other two unless you're from Mississippi or you've been a fan your whole life. I know people say it was because we told him he could play RB, but that still doesn't make sense. Honestly, I think Conner really liked Croom and it was a combination of him not being recruited as heavily as he let on, and having a family, and maybe not really wanting to play football. Maybe the dude wanted a father figure like Croominator, Mullen probably doesn't baby the players like Croom did.

I don't know, that's all I can come up with. I mean, he wasn't a 4* for nothing, but at the same time, dude wasn't going to get to play that much.

I think his personal problem was his spot on the depth chart. I don't think you go to Wesson, MS if you are having personal issues and your family lives in Monroe, LA. Hope he gets what he wants out of the deal.

this has to mean good things about our RBs if he was concerned about his PT.

And this is true for a lot of the recruited players in that class. Whether you like it or not, most of that class (other than a few of the late guys that Mullen got like a couple of the WRs) is at MSU because of Croom's recruiting.

Croom's WR recruiting was not only pathetic but also his OL and QB recruiting. Pretty much everything on offense except for RB. The reason a lot of those players really liked Croom was because he was the only D-I coach who would offer them a scholarship.

I thought they were, and they did lead the league in rushing in 2009.In 2007 the OL was pretty stout as well from what I recall.

Im not saying that he recruited a bunch of first round picks, but the Offensive lineman he did recruit have seemed to turn out ok.

that he left Mullen with a pretty decent foundation to build a program on. He couldn't coach worth a ****, but in his last couple of years he did get better at recruiting (except at QB and WR).

Regardless who was recruited by Croom or Mullen, the fact that we have a coach now who can develop players once they arrive on campus. Mullen also knows the importance of a strength and conditioning program.</p>

before coming to MSU. I think it actually took him 4 to 5 years to figure out the modern recruiting game. No doubt his last couple of recruiting classes (and primarily his last) were tremendous improvements over his first few classes. However with the poor staff he had, after Ellis Johnson left, no matter the talent he got it probably wouldn't have mattered.

At least he's a running back, like somebody said earlier, it's easier to replace a RB any day of the week than just about any other position. Sometimes these kids just don't have the mental toughness to play D-1 football, no matter where their talent level is.

Conner was recruited to all the other schools as a LB,while we offered him as a RB. That is why he came to us. If we were trying to swap him to LB that would explain why he wanted to leave

our offense is opening up a whole lot more this year and the big bruising feature back that gets a whole bunch of carries every game is not part of Mullen's long term plan offensively and he sees the handwriting on the wall.

Croom, along with his big back offense, and the fact we were the only ones offering him as a RB, is what got him to Starkville. He damn near de-committed when Croom was fired and Mullen hired. Mullen told him he would be the next AD and we would need a big back in his offense.

Heard griffin is coming up strong for the 3rd spot behind Ballard and Elliot and he was fighting to even be possibly 4th on the depth chart. I hate that he is leaving but it has been a long time since we have enough talent at a position to cause good competition. Competition at every position makes the team better.

I have been super excited about him since watching him in monroe. To say that he left because he runs like AD is absurd. AD obviously flourished under our system. He is also a freshman with a bunch of upperclassman ahead of him. The space would have cleared up and he could have been a good one. However when your 18 a year or two seems like eternity
