Here's one from the same Auburn message board (scout). The posts quoted earlier aren't representative of the Auburn fan base. I understand that it's fun to bash the opponent, but I think this poll illustrates my point. Auburn fans have a lot of respect for MSU. In years past, Auburn fans would have likely voted 90%. This is a testament to Mullen, particularly his development of Relf. I'd besurprisedis State goes any worse than 2-2 against AU, BAMA, ARK, LSU. Most Auburn fans agree.<div><div>

People like this d-bag is the whole reason why the True Maroon campaign exists. And im glad someone recognized the need to address the situation because it has gotten much better and I credit. True Maroon as part of the solution.

I can't stand idiots who allow MSU to educate them and then yell RTR or WDE. Either say Hail State, or go to another college.

probably because Auburn has sucked hard the last few years. Another poster is right, he's probably a South Carolina or Florida baseball fan.

The problem here is that you are an Auburn fan and a Mississippi State fan. All it really shows is that you aren't a true fan of any team. Mississippi State fans want to see the University succeed in all things. The sports may provide different levels of excitement for different MSU fans but everyone is cheering for the name on the front of the jersey and not the sport. However, I am from Alabama and most fans from this state don't even realize their respective teams play other sports besides Football.

You make a really good point Jack. It was foolish of me to not place football allegiance number 1 when considering my college choice. MSU could probably save a lot of money if they first found out the favorite team of their prospective high school seniors. That would eliminate thousands of Mississippi State pamphlets send though the mail, thus saving postage fees, paper, man hours, and helping the environment. I know Ireceivedseveral of them. However, enrollment would likely drop below the 20,000 mark. In my major, students from the state of Mississippi were in the minority. I agree with you though, football should be number one.

Let's say State beats Auburn Saturday to the tune of 28-20.

Auburn goes undefeated throughout the rest of the season, and hammers Bama in the Iron Bowl.

State goes undefeated the rest of the way, knocks off Alabama but falls to Arkansas in a wild finish. Auburn is 7-1, State is now 6-1 heading into the Egg Bowl against a 5-6 Ole Miss team. Arkansas also finished 7-1 and puts State out of contention for a division title, win or lose.

An Ole Miss win sends Auburn to the SEC Championship Game. Because their loss was early, it also puts them in contention for a national championship. The loss to Arkansas has dropped State to 10th in the polls, and most pundits have them going to the Capital One Bowl, the best bowl in modern football for State.

Do you cheer for State to lose in order for Auburn to win the West and have a chance for the national title?

Spent some time there and was floored by the acceptance of cheering for KState during football season and KU during BBall season. <div>

Delusional? Most Auburn fans know this weekend is going to be tough. We expect to take some lumps in the beginning as our team is very young and very inexperienced. You guys will be traveling and I expect us to be better then last week. You guys are building a great program there and we are too, with a minor setback due to poor recruiting at the end of Tubberville's era. All and all, your team is far more physcial right now then ours. I think we can score enough points on you guys just because we have the talent and Gus is the best OC in the nation. The major factor will be if we can hold you guys under 30.

As far as the fan discussion: The guy grew up an Auburn fan (18yrs), went to MSU (4yrs) and now pulls for MSU in any game except the one against Auburn and you have a problem with him? That's sad.

I grew up an Auburn fan but went to UF as I'm from Florida and it saved me $40k over 4 years. Sure I would have loved to be able to afford to go to Auburn those first 4 years, but I ended up here for grad work afterall. I'm a die hard Auburn fan and won't cheer for any other SEC team except Florida, and that's only if it doesn't affect Auburn. I don't see anything wrong with that as my ties to UF are much weaker then my ties to AU.

Much like psr35msu, I'm not a huge basketball fan and my first NCAA basketball experience came at UF resulting in me having some stronger UF basketball ties. If UF and AU play without any major implications to tournament etc--I'll always pull for Auburn.

You guys need to lighten up some, only the first week of the season and you already have your maroon panties in a bunch.

Very nice baited scenario. That would be bittersweet, regardless of the ending. I'd be thrilled for AU to make it to the SEC champ with a shot at the NCG, but I would for MSU also. Being an Auburn fan, of course I'd want them to make it...I don't really understand where this fair weather fan stuff comes from. I've been an AU football fan my entire life. I never really watched college basketball until I got to State, and only started because I was able to attend the games. Therefore, I became a State fan. If I'd went to Auburn I wouldn't be a State fan. The basketball experience rubbed off on me, I'm sure I'll take my son over when he's old enough... unless the True Maroon campaign has law enforcement by then. (He's got Auburn, State, and Bama stuff (wife)!!)I didn't grow up dreaming about MSU or bleeding maroon...except for the fact that they had an operational meteorology program that's the best in the nation (3X defending national champs).

I don't get everyone jumping down your case. Would I rather you be a State fan since you go to State above all other schools? Sure but it's not a big deal to me. Some people are just passionate about certain subjects and this is apparently 615dawg's.

But let me give you another example. The New Orleans Saints.

Sucked for years. Have a Super Bowl season and there are more Saints fans around here than you can believe.

This bandwagon/fair weather stuff is the thing that has hurt MSU over the years more than you can imagine. Its starting to get better, but 10 years ago, you'd see as many Bama/LSU fans out and about in Mississippi as State/Ole Miss. I can even remember talking to an Alabama fan in Northpark Mall that didn't know Alabama was in Tuscaloosa.

I just can't see how someone can go to school 4 years and cheer for another SEC team. If you go to Millsaps or Samford, that's fine if you want to be an Alabama or LSU fan. But if you go to State, you should want them to win every game, every week, even against your childhood allegiance.

You're probably better off letting the argument die because I don't see you winning this as the points you made make sense to me. In a perfect world everyone that attends MSU (and any other college for that matter) will be a die hard for that university and that university only, but I understand that that's just not reasonable as everyone has their own reasons for attending schools even if they're not the biggest fan of their athletics.<div>
</div><div>I didn't become a MSU fan till I started giving them my money for classes. I went from Notre Dame to South Carolina before I settled to MSU. I wasn't really that big on college sports until my junior year in high school and I was looking at the first 2 schools to attend before MSU. Even though I never had huge college ties before I started school, I can understand how someone could like a different school from that which they attend. I guess some people take it more seriously than most..</div>

but to me - your schooling trumps your allegiances. If he is a meteorology major - makes sense to go to State.

I'm not going to defend the guy as it also drives me nuts to see people to graduate from MSU and say they root for basketball but pull for another college football team. That said, allow MSU to educate them? More like pay MSU ridiculous amounts of money to give them a degree that might or might not be worthwhile. Mississippi State University is seeking guys like this out because they are in the money making business. That's why tuition is constantly on the rise and they spend so much on recruiting students. Allow? If he is going to be an Auburn fan he needs to be an Auburn fan, but MSU still coveted his money.

615.. I have a hypothetical for you in return.<div>
</div><div>From previous posts, you've stated that you grew up a die hard Auburn fan, then changed over to MSU after the '97 game. Nothing wrong with that to me. However, I think it's safe to assume that while you were an Auburn fan, you also had a hatred for bama...similar to State's hatred for tsun. With that in mind, and applying your logic that you should be a fan of whatever school you attend, would you haveimmediately transitioned from an Auburn fan to a bama fan if you had went to alabama? Just curious... I know these hypothetical situations are all about baiting and sinking someone. I'm really just messing around and could care less. This thread doesn't seem to be following the purpose of it's title anyway.</div>

Passionate are we? I see where you're coming from, but it's never really bothered me to that extent. I know State has more "visiting" fans that are only there for school, but almost every university has them. If there was a MSU fan that went to Ole Miss for a degree in law I doubt too many people would be up in arms about that.
Ha Ha. My brother got a Master's in Education Administration fromOle Miss after he graduated from MSU.My Dad is an MSU grad who taught at Ole Miss during the summers for a while. We grew up MSU fans and Arky fans. Now we are MSU fans that think Arky has aweak, Big 12 type mentality and we hate the 17 out of daBears.

I changed over when I decided to go to MSU. The week before that game I watched us get slaughtered 47-0 by Georgia.

Yes. I graduated high school with a diehard Auburn fan that got a full ride to Alabama. He's an Alabama fan now.

Look, at least you are up front with it and say that you truely don't bleed maroon and white. I really wish that everyone who attended MSU had that passion like some of us do. That passion is driven by the experiences, the people, and the things we accomplished there. Those 4.5 years out of my life (and since)by far trump the 18 years of being a DIE HARD Tennessee fan.

It's not something you can fake. If you don't have that passion, so be it. At least you are honest about it and don't claim to be a true 100% bulldog. There are some out there who fake it, those are the people who deserve the ridicule.

However, for me it just came down to dollars and cents. USM put up some major dough whereas state was only willing to give me half of what USM did. I knew that I would never become a Southern Miss fan, but I enjoyed my education at Southern Miss. Plus, I enjoyed making fun of Southern Miss fans on occasion even though I would and still do cheer for them...<div>
</div><div>I can't get behind the idea that everyone should either go to a school where they are a fan or automatically become a fan of the school they go to. There are so many different factors in choosing a college, and I think if someone chooses a college solely based on athletic allegiances then they are making a huge mistake.</div><div>
</div><div>I don't think it makes me any less of a Mississippi State fan..</div>

I went to MSU during the Croom era as well and have a deep Alabama background. I didn't necessarily switch allegiances the day I went to orientation. Hell, I was still uncertain about who I was going to cheer for during the Alabama game my freshman year. But during that game (which Alabama won), my allegiance magically switched and I really can't explain it. I now cheer for Alabama to lose every game they play in any sport. However, I was able make an exception for one game last year. 17 your trees.

but 3 of my siblings went to LSU b/c of money. Of course, they made the switch to the Tigers and never looked back.
