Why wouldn't Smith be announced by now?
He literally can't hire Smith or he'd be immediately fired at this point
I don’t want Coach Smith either. I’d like to have him on staff but think that bridge is burnt. I don’t want him as head coach.

however, I have this fear that Kraft is holding that card if all else fails. His statement will be - “The fans have spoken. I heard the chants”.

Maybe--who knows at this point--anything is possible but he truly looks like a fool if he wanted until after the early signing period to promote from the staff

How do you know he doesn't have it figured out? So you want a coach like Kiffin who is going to abandon his team playing for a Conference Championship? If that's not the case then you want him to settle. Like I said all of this was known when he fired JF. Guess what, they would be fielding offers if we had a head coach in place or if he didn't fire Franklin until Sunday. Kraft knows the Portal is more important than signing day in CFB today and the door does swing both ways. Mississippi had 31 kids transfer in last year including the QB.
Portal is more important??? Problem is we have nobody in place to work the portal. Kraft is a disaster.

Which all goes back to the reality - it doesn't even matter who you get, the key is to get someone in position now and rebuilt ASAP. Every day, heck every hour, that is delayed hurts PSU more.

It's beyond unbelievable that we did not announce a signing on Sunday.

A pretty good coach once said, "If you're going to listen to those in the stands, you're soon going to be sitting with them."

At least Smith wants the job.

Why would Kraft hire Smith at this stage of the search? If Kraft really wanted to hire Smith, he could have done so in October and saved the majority of the 2026 class.

So, why would Kraft wait nearly 2 months and sacrifice the 2026 recruiting class to hire Smith?

It does not make logical sense to hire Smith now. It would make Kraft look like a dope. If Kraft was to do so he would be fired immediately for stupidity.

The reality is the options now are going to be people who want 6+ years and $10+ million a year. Huge financial commitments to underwhelming options. Hire Terry as the bridge coach on a program friendly deal. If it doesn't pan out, you regroup (likely with a new AD)

Problem then becomes, who does he hire for his staff?

Any thoughts on this rumor:

Terry was really up for the job going in to the nebraska game. All his Paterno stuff that games pissed of BOT members (except a few of course) and it was the BOT that stepped in and told Kraft no. They want to keep the distance form Paterno that James did. If you notice Kraft after Nebraska was all pumped up and all over Terry that night in pride. The next week, Kraft looked like the 7th grade nerd asking the cheerleader to dance.

If that's true.....screw the BOT and Penn State.

Sounds exactly what one would expect from both current and past Penn State BOT members, and certain administrators as well.

Sadly, I think this is the only realistic path forward and I was as anti of a “hire Terry Smith” guy as there is.

Problem then becomes, who does he hire for his staff?
Why are you so anti-hiring Terri Smith?

I don’t know any. But I’m also not an AD being paid big money to know these kind of things.

I didn’t say you were, but it’s an insane jump. Hartline has been a hot name for years now and he didn’t have any P4 suitors this years.

I just did a little research and found one former CB coach who became a head coach: Mel Tucker of Michigan State.

Now I feel like I need to take a shower.
