Oh so now Sitake is a great coach huh? What conference does BYU play in Big Guy? How did he do against Texas Tech this year which last I checked isn’t exactly OSU. So he lost badly to the only Top Ten team he faced. Isn’t that why Kraft said Franklin was fired? How the hell do you know whether Sitake can recruit players from Philly or this geographic area when he has never done so before? If he gets hired, I hope he is in fact the home run hire Kraft essentially promised since as a life long Penn State fan I always support the team but at this point if Sitake is hired it appears that Kraft had to settle for him.
Racists gonna racist.

So what is Todd McShay referring when he says go check out the Nike/Adidas thing and the timing and the 38 million?

McShay literally says Kraft should have consulted with Sexton prior to firing James Franklin. Tell me College Football is broke without telling me it’s broke. Absolutely insane. I want to fire your client but I also want to hire a client of yours since you represent them all and I fear retribution so I’m hoping we can come to agreement so I can fire my head coach which is your client. Utterly insane.

Agree, but Kraft could also just be an ***hole.

It’s on his podcast from this morning and last night. I don’t have the link.
I may sounds really dumb, but I watched the one where he said "you should look deeper in to the adidas/nike situation." I was wondering where to dig deeper on that. Is that on the same podcast? If so I need to check it out.

Umm this has been known since Franklin was fired. But you have to remember that the new coach is also having discussions with players that will be in the portal. It didn't matter when Franklin was fired this was going to be an issue IF we are hiring a coach with integrity that is still coach his team.
Except we don't have a new coach. Kraft is still doing interviews. If we had a coach he would have been named. At the very least it would have been leaked.

So you're saying that we should hire a lesser candidate because of this? Again this was all known when JF was fired. And if he was fired this past Sunday it would be the exact same situation.
Do we have a choice? Do you see any better candidates lining up for the job? Once the best available turns us down the lesser candidate becomes the best available.

We can hire the lesser candidate today or wait til after signing day.

If Kraft is “still doing interviews” then he has massively f’ed up. I’m skeptical that he is that incompetent though especially given how the Chesney situation played out which makes it seem like Chesney was told he’s out if the running because PSU signed someone else. It would be mind boggling to me if Kraft let Chesney go without having a “better” (at least per Kraft’s opinion) already 100% in the bag

Hire the lesser candidate today then. There doesn’t seem to have been any real “home run” available this cycle - outside of arguably Kiffin - so you get the best option signed and move on

Word on the insider street is that Sitake is trending no and staying at byu after full court press by the rich donors and Church itself . If that gets confirmed today, Krafty has definitively been an abject failure in this process, striking out with every candidate. While Chesney does not officially sign with UCLA until Sunday, he is already recruiting for them and it’s highly doubtful he can be obtained. You’re left with Hartline, who for some reason nobody around the country has wanted to hire HC in the cycle, Brohm, possibly an NFL guy like Daboll, or Terry himself. If we are not careful, this is the road to becoming the newest Nebraska.

I can’t imagine that he’s still doing interviews. He should have had his short list of 2 or 3 by last week and ready to get the coach officially hired by this Sunday at the latest. I’m not happy about it but I’m guessing that Chesney was at best #3 behind whatever the backup plan is, possibly Brohm.

Is that news coming from our side or BYU side?

Again only if the insiders are right, which of course they havent been yet.

I am referring to Terry. You would rather have Terry than a tenured head coach who has enjoyed a lot of success. The same Terry that blew the Indiana game and has continued a mentor relationship with effing James Franklin. The Terry that has lost the entire recruiting class. That is the candidate that you would want.
I’ll respect that take.

Here’s where I’m coming from:
* BYU is a very unique job. Being Mormon or any religion isn’t the problem. The question is what coach has ever left BYU and been wildly successful anywhere else? Can he recruit non Mormon players to a non Mormon school at a high rate.

* Data point. Bronco Mendenhall was successful at BYU. Also a Mormon born and raised in Utah. From 2005-2015, he compiled a record of 99-43. Was a pretty hot coaching commodity and under 50. (Granted they are different people, but can we see some similarities between him and Sitake? Both 49/50 years old. Sitake - 83-44 at BYU). Mendenhall bolted for Virginia. Went 36-38 in the mighty ACC. Next stop - New Mexico where he went 5-7. Now, at 59 years old, he just finished up 6-6 at Utah State. (Yep. Back to Utah). A combined 47-51 post BYU.

* Is Terry Better? Maybe not? Probably not? I do think if we get to that point, he’s a lot cheaper and an easier buy out if it doesn’t work. I also think he would recruit our territory better than Sitake.

All that said, if we hire Sitake, I hope to God I’m wrong and PSU goes on an unprecedented tear! I’m just saying, I haven’t seen BYU coaches lighting up the county.

Believe none of what you hear and half of what you see.
McShay has always seemed like a credible guy that's always had solid access, I'll take his word that things were a little fishy. Heard plenty of stuff from others that have interacted with Little Game over the years.

The Mormon church was 1 of the things that many were talking about when Andy Reid was coaching the Eagles. BYU was a bad team with no light at the end of the tunnel. Evidently (I believe this to be true) that is when the Mormon church calls you to do something like coach the football team being of Mormon faith its very hard to say no to that. Reid ended up moving on to the Chiefs but there was real concern in philly back in the day he was going to be called back to coach BYU. So if the Mormon church is leaning on Sitake it's going to be very hard for him to leave that calling, no matter how much money PSU is offering.

FWIW:

If Sitake was ever - until Pat Kraft Hail Mary time - a top consideration for PSU (I doubt anyone but a complete _____ believes he was a top candidate):

Sitake/BYU had a two week period - a couple weeks after PK fired (VT)HCJF - of off time (a Bye Week).
If PSU had "planned" interest in Sitake, that open time period is when you have serious conversations (directly or through agents) and work things through to at least the "Yes, we are both interested, here is what it is going to take", or "No, this is not a good fit" point.

Obviously :) , that did not happen.

How do the Univ of Florida folks feel today when told Kiffin wanted to coach there and UF was his 1st choice but their AD wouldn't budge on allowing Kiffin to bring his own GM with him from Ole Miss and was requiring him to use the GM the AD wanted. So Kiffin refused and walked away to LSU. I am sure that AD is going to feel some serious heat especially if their new coach flops. He will be fired quickly.

The whole thing is a crap show. They should have made Chesney the priority and closed the deal. He's successful and he would have come. This BYU guy isnt a fit at all. No offense, I'm sure he's a good coach, but its obvious.

I'm surprised all this talk of Brohm, etc. I think Kalen DeBoer is still in play. Fingers crossed Kraft has a plan and we will be relieved when they announce. The only thing that concerns me, if it is DeBoer, why all the rumors about Sitake?

Isn't becoming clear to you that we aren't getting any of these guys? In the end, if Smith even still is here, he probably will be named coach and the AD will have to talk him up. The actions of the past two months have destroyed this program for many years.

Because someone got a hold of a tip and the internet made it explode. Notice PSU has said nothing the whole time---like they should be keeping their mouths shut.
