Yep even those of us who gave Franklin the patients through the last 10 years knew that after Northwestern, it was time for a change, but this guy’s still on JF’s junk like he’s related to him or something. Of course, this is the same guy that thinks public schools recruit more than private schools so what are you expect.

Years were wasted on the forced trial.

Now you’re just being silly.

Okay…let’s approach it this way. How many times in his 46 years, did Joe lose to a team when favored by 22+ points?
Who cares? Point spreads mean nothing.

It’s funny, I’m surrounded by non-PSU fans and every single one of them thought getting rid of Franklin was a dumb move. Posters on here are acting like he was 7-5 every year of his career. And you’re a guy that thinks every private school does recruit so there’s that.

I think Franklin had to go but the way in happened (timing and lack of a replacement plan) was horrible.

Franklin's inability to win big games was a big factor but I also think James needed a reset. It seemed obvious that the pressure was getting to him. Examples:
  • The "elite" rant after back to back 1 pt losses to OSU
  • Yelling back at fans in the stands who booed him
  • Completely unable to manage the clock before halftime vs UCLA had the announcers scratching their heads. BGJ looked lost like a deer in the headlights.
I think James will be happier at a school where fans will be happy with 9-3 or 8-4 seasons. Much less pressure.

That's the tip of the iceberg....

"The plays work better with better players." Who the F makes that statement with a current roster? BGJ.

On fullbacks, "who wants a player that only does ONE THING?" Yet the 49ers today run a fullback...... He's a dip$hit.

The media may have ripped him, but fans of other teams didn’t (except for maybe OSU and Michigan). Most coaches of other teams have a similar percentage against top 10 teams, so their fans understand it.

Of course, OSU and UM LOVED Franklin. They were sad to see him go.

Listen, I appreciate what he did achieve, but what he didn't achieve is more telling after an entire decade of trying.

It’s simple. James checked out after the Oregon game. He gave up on his team. It was obvious to anyone with eyes. Regardless of how high he finished last year or whatever kind of pissing contest he was in with Kraft, there was NO excuse for his last 2 games.

I‘m sure he is now ultra-motivated to perform at V Tech…to prove the doubters from PSU wrong and he will surely elevate that program…maybe even make the playoff in a year or two, but I still will be happy he is not here because his ego is too damn fragile to recover from a big loss…and we don’t need any damn quitters leading our fine, young men.

Sorry you had such poor athletic and coaching background to not understand what went on during the UCLA and NW games.

And yep they all do, I cant think of a single one in 50 years and in 4 states that didnt.

I know multiple schools in two states that don’t and never have, so your argument is wrong.

Disagree, in those schools charters, just by having a football team means they automatically have to recruit for it. None of them would have a football team just based on random student population since the premise of their school is academic and or religious based. I’m sure dematha just has all these kids who just happened to randomly be 6 foot eight and a good basketball players show up to go to school there, same with Saint Frances.

And as far as any of the little tiny schools that aren’t necessarily big name ones, I’ve interviewed at some of those places where they’ve asked me to Coach and one of the first things they tell you is that you have to bring in a certain amount of freshman every year so that they have Tuition money coming in to offset costs.

You are the Franklin Fan Boy poster child.
No, I’ve just seen how this board is. Every loss is the coach’s fault, PSU has more talent than every team they play except OSU (but we’re close), and 10 wins is easy. The posters that think this will never be happy with any coach. And let’s not forget that JoePa never made a mistake and was unbeatable. All these things point to giving up on any coach in a short period of time.

Many private schools don’t have a football team….so much for your argument that they all recruit. And when kids decide to go to a certain school, that doesn’t mean they were recruited to go there, even the ones that are good at football. Some private schools do recruit and some don’t….some public schools recruit and some don’t. To say every private school recruits is ridiculous- many of them don’t give a rat’s a$$ about sports.

Supporting your favorite team’s coach- oh the horror. In two years I’ll be being called a Campbell fan boy as soon as posters on here turn on him.
No, it’s that you can’t understand why people didn’t want him to leave. 95% of the people making comments about him in this thread gave him 10 years and then could see what it happened in October.

I’m sorry that those couple private schools in West Virginia didn’t recruit you you or your kids and that university, nitro, hurricane or one of those schools had a kid who randomly moved into the district and helped beat your team in the playoffs but yeah West Virginia has plenty of schools that recruit. Wheeling Cc definitely does. When I grew up in western PA they and Linsly both recruited me. One of the kids I played baseball with in the summer 25 years ago was a player from Charleston Catholic, he was from Ashland area and lived with a teammate during the school year. Parkersburg Catholic has kids on the team from Ohio, it’s like shooting fish in a barrel.

And what you said sums up the Franklin years. He was a very good recruiter and brought in some fine players but that's where it ended. Better players gets you 9-10 wins against good to average teams. To beat the top teams, those players need top development. They also need the best game management and adjustments.

I honestly thought Franklin had it figured out after the 2024 season and was excited for the future with NIL money and the stadium improvements. But this year went sideways very fast, and it was clear all was not right. What's done is done, and I'm moving on. I'm hoping the program can improve from where Franklin left it. Franklin did some good things for the program in terms of modernizing things. He also had some good enjoyable seasons. I'm a Penn State fan and support Penn State.

Parkersburg Catholic has kids that go there that live in Belpre Ohio which is five minutes away and many of them don’t play sports. Drive through the student parking lot at Parkersburg High School and see how many Ohio plates you see there and most of them are great athletes. You’re right, my son never got recruited by Parkersburg Catholic, but he did get recruited by Parkersburg High School, Warren High School, and Marietta High School. And isn’t it weird that all the kids who randomly move into the Nitro or Hurricane school district are all great baseball players, or the kids who randomly move into Martinsburg are all great football players. Or kids that randomly move into Woodrow Wilson or Huntington are all great basketball players. And take a look at Greenbrier East sometime, especially back when Jim Justice was the coach. My son’s sixth grade basketball team beat a private school’s JV team- that high school isn’t recruiting anybody.

I live in Michigan, so I’m surrounded by Michigan and Mich St fans, they all thought he’s a joke and can never win a big game. I have others who are Ohio St fans, sane thing. They’d rip on him constantly and just laugh at me about it. They all wanted him to stay! There is not one person around me here, family, friend or co-worker who thinks he was a good game day coach.

All my family members who are Ohio State fans (most didn’t go there except for my sister) as well as almost everyone I knew when I lived in a Columbus suburb for 18 years loved BGJ, because they knew they were pretty much assured of O$U beating his teams because they always choked at the end. They were quite disappointed when he was fired as they wanted him to continue on forever. Now they are a little more apprehensive about Penn State because they are now a complete unknown.
