Hogwash. With that approach, may as well throw in the towel.Yes he couldn’t bring in more talent than OSU or Michigan and neither will the next guy (or the next). Get it?

VA Tech is taking season ticket applications. There’s a big difference between being #10 and being #1….thats where the five stars come in and PSU doesn’t get many of those.
He can make a lot of blunders and be no where near CJF…one if the worst in all of CFB.I 100% guarantee he will make in game blunders as does every coach on the planet especially those that you watch every game. I don’t think Campbell is the savior you think he’s going to be.
I guess you are neither. VA Tech is selling luxury boxes to watch your hero. How many Penn State fans does it take to change a light bulb? Three…one to change it and two to talk about how great the old one was. This joke applies to Steeler fans as well.
I at least have history on my side…Penn State isn’t pulling in a ton of five star recruits. The only way you can say we got a coach who won’t make in game blunders is if he’s never done it and that’s just not true….no coach is perfect in their in game decision making. But saying Penn State won't get 5-star recruits isn't ridiculous? Let's agree that we are both guilty of hyperbole.
The disagreement lies in how one side views the potential (or lack thereof). I believe PennState that has the potential to get over that hump of losing to Top 10 teams religiously. You are resigned to a belief that PennState will not compete against such teams.
I e seen multiple coaches “ice” their own kicker…they call a time out for various reasons, but it isn’t to ice their kicker.Let's all hope CMC doesn't ice his own kicker like BGJ did once![]()
Well, they will make sure they were right about Franklin but moving the goal posts or changing the past, much like they do with Joe.They aren't hoping for a savior, they're hoping they were right about James Franklin.
No, may as well have realistic opinions on what a coach can and can’t accomplish at PSU and enjoy the good seasons. To have a NC or bust mentality at PSU (or just about any school) is setting you up to be disappointed.Hogwash. With that approach, may as well throw in the towel.
So? I’ve been a PSU fan my whole life and don’t plan on changing. I was a Paterno supporter, an O’Brien supporter, a Franklin supporter, and now a Campbell supporter. I’m just a bit more realistic than many on here.VA Tech is taking season ticket applications.
That’s funny. We’ll see. But I’m quite sure you won’t judge him by the same criteria you judged Franklin. Hypocrisy runs deep with you.He can make a lot of blunders and be no where near CJF…one if the worst in all of CFB.
I guess you missed the line giving out a sense of humor or common sense.I guess you are neither. VA Tech is selling luxury boxes to watch your hero.
In any given recruiting year cycle, from what I see, there are few 5*recruits,---what, 20-25? Not a lot for the Division I teams. Look at what Indiana has done with a team full of 3*'s, great Coaching, and a tremendous QB. It can be done.I at least have history on my side…Penn State isn’t pulling in a ton of five star recruits. The only way you can say we got a coach who won’t make in game blunders is if he’s never done it and that’s just not true….no coach is perfect in their in game decision making.

Just because a kid piles up the stats doesnt mean they are a 4 or 5 star. Whats Bragalone doing these days? And consider that “stars” aren’t from a blood test, it’s some service’s opinion. Franklin may have been chasing stars but Harbaugh may have been digging a little deeper on own. There’s a rb for Southern Lehigh who is one of only 5 players to ever rush for more than 3,000 yards (including 300+ in state title game), yet no PSU offer. CF needs Sabermetrics, whatever coach nails that will clean up.
That is such a small minded view of his contributions. The kid was the back up QB.Clifford had 3 rec for 25 yard and 1 rush for 2 yards. $125,000 per touch in a game. That's a great gig if you can get it, kind of like being a fired football coach getting a buyout or a bench player in a pro league making bank without ever seeing the field.
And I have history on my side as well. Franklin’s record vs Top 10 Big Ten is 1-18.I at least have history on my side…Penn State isn’t pulling in a ton of five star recruits. It’s 1-18 vs Big Ten top 10.4 - 21 against top 10 teams..................... 4 wins of 25 contests.....
Actually 2 wins vs BIG top 10….OSU (2) and Wisky (6) in 2016.It’s 1-18 vs Big Ten top 10.
Well that makes a big difference. Wish we had Franklin back.Actually 2 wins vs BIG top 10….OSU (2) and Wisky (6) in 2016.
That has nothing to do with Campbell not making blunders. And I have history on my side as well. Franklin’s record vs Top 10 Big Ten is 1-18.
It has everything to do with BGJ being a mediocre coach that hasn’t shown the ability (after YEARS of opportuntity) to bring a program back to its former glory days. That has nothing to do with Campbell not making blunders.
He wasn't on the QB depth chart until Kotelnicki and Terry stupidly allowed wildcat formations with Smolik to take place, after Allar was already out for the season. This caused Smolik to get hurt too, completely wiping out all QB depth as Kritza (sp?) was already injured then as well. That was a really perplexing choice when you already have 2 injuries in your QB room. That is such a small minded view of his contributions. The kid was the back up QB.
Well, I guess they earned their money somehow. Cause it sure wasnt on the field/stat sheet. Unless missed tackles, getting pancaked, and not getting open are valuable stats to you.Where do you get off counting someone else’s paychecks? Clifford and DeLucca represent exactly the type of players I want at Penn State.
Clifford was arguably one of the most versatile players on the roster this year. He sacrificed any realistic opportunity to play wide receiver and instead stepped up at quarterback because the team needed him there. He was the last option—and he embraced it. He led, he competed, and he put the program ahead of himself. That matters.
DeLucca was a team leader in the truest sense. A captain. A starter. A steady presence. Without him, Penn State likely does not reach six wins this season. His impact went beyond the stat sheet and into preparation, accountability, and consistency.
These kids were not superstars. They were not game-breakers. If Penn State could have upgraded the roster at those positions, they would have. They didn’t—and these players stepped up anyway.
Clifford and DeLucca embodied what it means to be a Penn State football player: selfless, tough, dependable, and committed to the team above all else. Those are the players programs are built on.
You are 100% wrong…I always cheer for PSU and I support the coach….i guess that makes me a bad fan. And the comment I responded to you has absolutely nothing to do with Franklin. Might want to get help for your FDS.It has everything to do with BGJ being a mediocre coach that hasn’t shown the ability (after YEARS of opportuntity) to bring a program back to its former glory days.
Now we all know that you discount the PSU brand and you are unwavering on your position as am I. But at this point, Franklin is gone, PSU has a coach that has a lot of potential, and I (and many others) will be enjoying the next few years to see what Campbell can do. In the meantime, you will continue to pine for the Franklin Years and likely root against PennState.
Enjoy misery!
I’m taking comfort in the fact that a mediocre coach is gone and the program is moving forward with a brighter future. I’m part of the ‘Make PennState Great Again’ movement! That would make you the one with some sort if Derangement System..CDS?!You are 100% wrong…I always cheer for PSU and I support the coach….i guess that makes me a bad fan. Message board culture. Comes with the territory.Wow. The ego of some people, feeling a compulsion to reply to so many others’ posts to “set them straight.”

Not quite….i support Campbell and hope he does better than any coach we’ve ever had. I just don’t demand it like some of the posters on here who live in fantasy land.I’m taking comfort in the fact that a mediocre coach is gone and the program is moving forward with a brighter future.
