Per Veazey up top.

I think it is awesome that Mullen says he would "definitely be interested" if we came calling.

Again, if this was just following the firing of Jackie and this was Norm Chow we were talking about, MSU fans would be going nuts over the possibility of even
talking to him.

Now Mullen is saying he hasn't talked to anybody including Neinas. Does this mean we *did* contact Mullen and have decided to go elsewhere, and this is just face saving?

This just makes Greg look like a complete idiot if we didn't entertain an interview with him.

Wilson or one of the proven head coaches (Pete, Pat, etc.) and that Mullen is keeping his name out there just in case?

it makes me feel pretty damn good about the search if we haven't had to turn to a guy the caliber of Mullen.

Sounds more like Meyer is trying to get his buddy a head coaching job more than anything.

he would much rather we took Oklahoma's OC before the national championship, than his. He might be trying to head this off early.

The earlier statement couldn't have been more clear. "Meyer: Mullen spoke with MSU last week."

And now: "Mullen: No contact with Mississippi State."

I call Bull***t!

coachspeak - maybe there was indirect contact but no face to face - plausible deniability

Veazey and Locke need to start really digging up some stuff. This isn't the 80's where we all sit around and wait to see who's coming. I've watched the Alabama hires and they can't keep wraps on anything. Rodriguez was pretty much announced before he didn't accept on that Friday. That was all over ESPN the day before that it was a done deal. Alabama reporters were camped out in West Virginia that whole week.

Are there not any Mississippi reporters trying to break a story for us, good or bad?

It is because GB is keeping it so quiet. Maybe Bama's OC was more reluctant to spill the beans to a few people and then it gets out.

How many lies have you heard from coaches over the years? Tuberville, Saban, they go on and on then BAM, a sudden revelation.

Let's not allow our AD to do his job. Instead, let's break the secrecy wide open because us knowing is more important than hiring a good coach.

Also, if you think Veazey isn't digging for info then you haven't been paying attention. The bottom line is Byrne is keeping this thing under wraps. I think it is because he wanted to take a stab at some established coaches without making us look foolish by getting publicly turned down again and again (think Ole Miss 2004). Of course, the MSU fanbase hopped in at the end of last week and proved once again that we can make ourselves look foolish enough without a botched coaching search. Patience.

interested in finding out who we are looking at hiring. There are 2 beat writers covering this basically and all of the rest of the in state reporters are just reading their blog. It's not that Greg has to keep it on wraps, there is just not much interest in who we are hiring. That is the bottom line.

Go back and watch the frenzy when Saban was close to getting hired. The local TV stations were camped out in Miami following his every move. This after he stated he wasn't going to Bama.

Everybody on here wants to know at least something. I can't believe that there is not a reporter that wants to break a story. I think Veazey is more concerned about losing his place in the "here's a tidbit" pecking order.
Do your job, Kyle! Get some juicy scuttlebutt.

P.S. Has anybody talked with Strat? I'd bet he could get us some scoop.

Byrne isn't being secretive, the reporters just don't want to break the story. They are too scared their sites would be flooded with activity.

Others in college football are marvelling over how secretive our search has been. You might want to go tell them it's just because we have reporters that don't care about doing their job. After all, those folks probably have no idea how a real coaching search is handled.

being ousted from your post as beat writer for MSU. It's easier to lay low and wait for text messages from GB. He'll definitely keep you in the loop, just like he's been doing.

There's gotta be somebody working out there. I mean, are we that pathetic of a story?
