Leland's coach apparently loaded up on a bus along with a crowd of parents and drove to Jackson hoping for a court injunction to stop tonight's game between Walnut and Eupora. However, the request was denied. Anyone heard about this?

yeah I agree. You hear it all the time, "the refs screwed us". This time it is for real but seriously, bringing in counselors is going a bit overboard.

pain. pills are ALWAYS the solution.

what in the hell is this country coming to? first we have pink on MSU helmets this season and now football players in high school need counselors when they get screwed over a call.

they didn't deserve to win.

And quit being such pussies. Counselors? Get your damn priorities in life straight.

Jones, who said she was the spokesperson for the football team parents, said Thursday evening they have not ruled out the possibility of appealing the judge's ruling. The next step would be taking it to the Mississippi Supreme Court.

wow, i wonder what lawyer is taking this frivolous crap up? there is absolutely no cause of action and these people have no standing to make any complaint in a court. sanctions [fines] should be imposed. and an attorney advising these people that this is a wise move should be punished as well.

Here is the Leland argument, according to the paper's filed.

According to the National Federation of High School Association rule book,

1. "The refereers decisions are final in all matters pertaining to the game.

2. The officials shall have the authority to make decisions for infractions of the rules. The use of any replay or televsion monitoring equipment by the officials making any decision relating to the game is prohibited.

Also, according to the MHSAA rulebook...

1. The decision of game officials are final and no protests based on the decision of the game officials will allowed.

it is interesting that protests do not usually yield game-changing results. how often have games ever been overturned on appeal? i know that if the call was made right, the game was over. but, when a call is blown on the field, all that is usually given is an apology.

i think, though, that it boils down to whether this is a "decision" of a game official, or an issue of proper rule application. and, of course, who are the courts to say whether MHSAA is applying its own rules appropriately? i would also think its an independent voluntary organization, like the NCAA. so, if you joined, you are subject to the body and its rules.

If they had gotten to keep the win, it would have been completely ********. The final decision was right, and that is what really matters.

not saying it's right, but we're dealing with people who are not necessarily thinking straight.

These are parents we are talking about here. After all, what's good for my kid is what is right. You know, my kid is perfect and never does anything wrong.

Seriously though, you are absolutely right. It's only going to get worse too. People are doing all of this over high school football. That's just sad. People really need to get some perspective.

Have the two teams meet wherever this game was held- Leland or Walnut.

Have the two teams play an OT and the winner advances.
