From a good source close to the owners of the station.

Apparently didn't like the direction they were taking the show. Negative, cynical sports talk.

I hate it because the guys were funny.

Bo still working on the lifestyle.

Meanwhile, the slugs,Chuck and Doug, keep on boring us.

....vile biggot. he sounds like he contemplates eating a bullet everytime I hear that guy. He should just pull the damn trigger.

I saw this and turned on the radio, Todd Wright tonight is on. He probably went off bitching and won't be on tomorrow either.

...can easily understand why people would hate it. I think Broughton is hilarious. I certainly prefer it over the other 2 shows.

What happened to Jay? Ever since he left, it's been kind of ******. Kevin's new sidekick sounds like a young Ben Stein.

Though I kind of liked him, he could easily over step the line on a lot of things, and the constant negativity got a little old.

that being said, I still enjoyed about 85% of the show and think its by far the best morning show Jackson has to offer.

......for MPR, haven't heard if he's on the air anywhere. I liked him a lot on the radio. I tried to stomach kevin periodically to listen to Jay, but it never lasted very long, usually at the point he went pissed-off aryan nation guy.

Given the choices for morning sports radio, I listened to The Vent. I thought Broughton (sp?) was funny, especially when he brought on his buddy "The Minister of Hate" from Montgomery.<div>
</div><div>I hope management didn't cancel the show, but I can see where Broughton made themcringe from time to time.</div><div>

for goodness sake. i had started enjoying them as compared to the other trash but that was too much to take, a natl anylist on for 15 minutes talking about the 17ing STANLEY CUP PLAYOFFS. who gives a rat's a**?

of course if there are any hockey fans actually living in ms today, my apologies to both of you.

Liked it better when it was Kevin and Jay though. The critical style of the show is a welcome change from serious all sports all the time.

IMO, sports radio should be modeled after Sports Radio 1310 The Ticket in Dallas. That station is about 20% serious sports, 30% funny critical Vent-like sports related talk, and 50% guy talk over any random topic.

The biggest problem with sports radio in Jackson, MS is too many sports radio channels. The pie is sliced up into too many pieces to draw any significant investment. Although, Bo's channel is a decent attempt.

Shortly before I moved away from Dallas, Dallas added is SECOND sports talk station. If three sports radio stations is too many stations in a metro area 4X the size of the whole state of MS, then no way does Jackson, MS need more than one station. Its a microcasm of D-I college sports in MS (as well as a microcasm of MS leading the nation in legislators per capita, school districts per capita, etc but I digress). If we had just one station, it could have decent on-air talent and production value.

But since we slice the pie into too many tiny pieces. No one piece is worthwhile.

There are definitely too many in Jackson. We only have one in Charlotte, and it's good. All of those guys that do sports radio in Jackson must either have second jobs or family money, because there's no way that pays enough to make a living.

Yeah, and I guess that's the real tragedy when you get down to it, huh? Who knows? We've got some time, and I could dupe a program director or two in the intervening 10 or so months.

Oh, andPimp Dawgy: To either your delight or dismay, I didn't put one through the roof of my mouth this morning.

:)

The Vent will be missed. Guess I'll have to Chuck-and-Doug it from now on. Hey Broughton, why don't you just become a regular caller on that show?

/in a rare instance...using a bit of judgment here.

1. Because I've done that before; and

2. That would be more than a little lame, wouldn't it?

'preciate the kind words.

Well good luck dude. I liked the show and hope it is resurrected.

I know you did, because I lurked here quite a bit. You're spot on about the excessive number of sports stations in this market. If the show rises again, it'll probably be in more of a news-talk format. Thanks again for the kind words.

Incidentally, when I mentioned on air several times that SPS was the official message board of the Vent, I meant it. Been that way ever since a bunch of OM douchebags tried to get me fired from my first gig in '08. My crime? Calling Jerrel Powe a "retard" on the air. 17-ers did a mass letter-writing campaign to the Sporting News Radio Network. Seriously. Never liked those choads anyway.

Here's how it went down, from an e-mail I sent to everybody on the Vent's mailing list:

(and thanks to the SPS for your induldgence.)

----------

Dear Friends of the Vent:

Sadly, today was my last on Supersport 930. The station's ownership has decided to go a different direction with regard to content. Specifically, the Eubanks are looking for a little more "family friendly" programming first thing in the morning, and as you all can imagine, the Vent's often over-the-top approach doesn't exactly jibe with that.

On that, a word or two. First, while it pains me that I won't be on the air here anymore, I completely respect the decision of Bill and Bryan Eubank in that regard. It's their station, and their decision. Additionally, I'll always be grateful to them for the opportunity. I had the time of my life these last 50 weeks -- almost a year! -- on the air. And, candidly, aside from my own father, those two are the finest Christian men I've ever met. My life is better for having known them.

And people, I had an absolute ball.

My hope is to surface on the air in this market sometime soon.

A quick note: I had already committed to doing a remote with Ben this afternoon at Poets in the Quarter. (Please come by, by the way.) Do me a personal favor, and don't call Ben's show and mention this e-mail, be it in a "Good Riddance" or "Say it ain't so" context. It's Ben's show, and I don't want it to be about me. I'll be doing the last hour of it by myself (5-6 p.m.) and will probably say a quick, informal goodbye in the program's last couple minutes. But please, please: respect this last request.

Oh, and Ben: I wouldn't have had this gig if it weren't for you. So, thanks, pal.

And as lame as this might sound, it's God's truth: Zach, buddy, I'm most torn up about not working with you anymore. I miss you already, man.

Thanks folks. I hope y'all will hear from me soon.

Your friend,

Kevin

after all, it's not your fault that your tiny little brain can't comprehend sports that you weren't brought up watching from an early age. Why don't you go hate on some more things you don't understand...

......Ben Ingramjust say that 930 is out at the Alumni House. What's the scoop on that? Does the bar need the space? Is 930 having to bail for amore affordable studio space? Did someone out bid them? just curious...........

Sirius or XM, tune to channel 122. Bill King hosts Rivals radio starting @ 6:00 a.m. and is really good, especially on football. I don't care much for him the rest of the year but from now until January he beats the "lifestyle" hands down. He strictly talks college too, no Seattle Seahawks crap.

Bo Bounds has some great guests. He needs to ditch the "lifestyle" as it is just a way to shill for his sponsors.

Kevin Broughton is a jerk and I'm glad to see him gone.
