Whats going on with Morris? I've noticed they have fallen off the map lately. Is it a talent issue, a coaching issue, or a tough schedule? Coming off back to back losses to Yorkville and Dekalb, are the playoffs a realistic possibility?
Best wishes,
Bill B

have you got a few hours?? Let's just say that this is" not your fathers Morris football program" anymore.

Kind of tough for all of us old Morris fans, well the ones that are around any more to say the least.

Didn't their current coach bring them to a state championship game a couple of years ago? I mean I don't think coaching is a problem.

Thanks for the replies. I was in town and stopped over to catch a game for the first time in a few years and to say the team looked "rough" was an understatement. I didn't know if it was just from not seeing a high school game in awhile or the play on the field. 4anorth I couldn't believe all of the empty seats, things have certainly changed. Oh well, I certainly wish the best for the team, coaches, and parents. Maybe they can get back on track and make a run in the playoffs!
Best wishes,
Bill B

That's exactly right, Thorson's game plans have been flawless through his years at the reigns. He's right up there with Gillespie and Lenti with his coaching knowledge and style. Unfortunately I think we're going to lose him to the open position with the Illini, he's ready for the next level.
With the economy taking a downturn local hot spots like Play It Again video and The Bigger Bite have been closing their doors and turning off young, powerful families to Morris. So the talent pool is drying up, thanks a lot Obama.

This is a few choice comments from turning into a City-Data Forum. I dont know whats more ludicrous: a high school coach promoted to an FBS college position (Holocek would make much more sense, though) or Obama as direct cause of Morris' woes (doesn't help but I think its several other factors also).

Alas the "hope and change" president destroyed Morris football but got the coach promoted to the Big Ten.

Pretty sure he was kidding about the "O'Bama comment" along with the "With the economy taking a downturn local hot spots like Play It Again video and The Bigger Bite have been closing their doors and turning off young, powerful families to Morris".

High hopes that you are right.
Having read TJ Smith commentary in the Morris Daily Herald through the years, the assertions made above follow a trajectory that was established years ago.

A few years ago a read an article in the local paper that said: (maybe TG Smith wrote it, not sure)
Next to the Morris Hospital, Morris Redskin football was the second most important catalyst for the local economy. I'm not sure how factual it was, but the article painted a similar picture as chocolateswirl85. Did the recent lack of success in the football program shut down The Bigger Bite and Play It Again Video? I would argue that it certainly was a major factor. I'm not sure the effect Obama has had on this program, but Hilary could rebuild it with her tax plans and never say die attitude.
In my opinion, Thorson to the Illini would be a reach but sometimes it works out. (Think Kyle Long to the Bears in the first round.) Vince Lombardi was promoted from high school coach to the Green Bay Packers job, anything is possible. I hope it all works out and the Redskins can make it to the playoffs and play Chicago Public League schools all the way to a state title.
Best wishes,
Bill B.

I was thinking that the decommissioning of the Collins generating station was the cause of the downfall. Either that or the Department of Defense is using all the weapons grade plutonium to defend our country..Seneca and Reed Custer are not doing very well either....not sure what Byrons record is this year.

You know, come to think of it,it might be result of the Morris city council denying Jewel-Osco a liquor license

The down fall was when Morris vocalist Paige DuChasse was eliminated on American Idol in the round of 32 after she received the golden ticket to Hollywood. It took the air out of the entire town. Luckily the poms won titles #126,127,128,and 129 last year for aerobic funk, hip hop, somersaults, and the tightly contested kart wheels . Once Thorson signs with the Illini, he can hire Dan Sharp and Matt Seffner to run the offense and defense and Ron Zook with special teams respectively.

For historical accuracy, Vince Lombardi went from HS coach, to line coach at Army, to Defensive coordinator for New York Giants then to HC of Green Bay. He taught the game at every level. Didn't go from HS coach to Packers HC.
