Although it is clear our OTs have struggled - I knew that before reading this - I would say our blocking has been inconsistent in the run game - tight ends, wide receivers, etc. not always getting it done. Utter got absolutely destroyed on a run call in the Purdue game - so regardless of grade getting arse planted that badly is a problem. We have had less drops - but I think the production down turn for the receivers is in part our commitment to the run AND the D playing well. They are limiting the chances for TA to make mistakes via the plays called for the offense.
Next 2 weeks - we'll have to give the ball to TA and let him win the games. I think that will mean more zone read, more QB run calls and a few more passes.

Mostly, nothing surprising in the article, but good to have another (hopefully unbiased, and at least closer to professional) opinion.

So, TA is not a good passer. Article mentioned "accuracy", hmmm, thumbs up from me. The NCAA restricts the amount of time a coach can spend with a player. If you want a silk purse at the end, you better better start with silk. BUT, TA is a very good runner, good to see the staff using his strengths.

OLine. WTG Farmer! Otherwise, we have two guys at the bottom of the B1G. I guess our narrative spilled over to the author's assessment. For the rest of my opinion - no comment.

Defense - Gerry. He was good last year, and got better. #1 rated (that website), WTG Gerry!

Defense - Young. Nice to see he's getting better and still has a lot of playing time left in him. WTG Young!

Defense - the line. Tough call here, because the author doesn't give a comparison and uses pro-type stats. I think we're doing better than what quite a few people thought entering the season, but not as good as what people want to believe. Do we end up with some all-conference guys by the end of the season, have to wait and see.

Offense - passing. Already others have commented. If you don't throw it a bunch /w a decent comp%, you won't rack up the stats.

Hmmm. So the stats are bad and players are not producing. Yet the team is 7-0. Like you say, like it or not you can't argue with stats.
That means the coaches are putting together great game plans and pulling out wins. You are right, the coaches definitely deserve alot of credit.

The center is apparently better than he is rated on here though. It appears to me this speaks to the competition we have played and the sum of parts versus the individual pieces.

There are a lot of posters that are eagerly anticipating our first loss of the season, which may come this Saturday night, to proclaim "I told you so". Absent any thread titled "First Half Game Thread", this board has been such a pleasant place to be. Are we overranked? Almost certainly. Are we 7-0 with nothing to apologize for? Absolutely. Here's the thing that many won't, or refuse to understand: We're much improved, and trending in the right direction. A loss on Saturday, or the next week, or another to end the season won't change that. Enjoy this, won't you?

I thought so too. They focused on the fact that no individual receiver has put up big yards, but failed to mention how many quality WR's we have. They are the strength of our O, IMO.

something was screwy with that Fresno game (only 6 total completions) ... I still think that was a subtle FU to run the ball guy by Langs ... I believe Riley and Langsdorf had a face to face after that game regarding what is meant by an increased commitment to running the ball

I think Gates injury has played a big role in his grade, as they had him rated very high early in the season.

This team has flaws to be sure but we are 7-0 and that is not easy to do no matter who you have played. We have a lot of injuries but so does Wisconsin - They have a similar situation on their Oline and are missing their starting NG and leading tackler. In fact I would say we are healthier than them overall.

I think we have a shot to win this game if TA plays clean and the defense shows up. If we lose depending on how we lose we are still moving forward this year. But the rest of our games from this point will say a lot about the direction of the program under MR

I find it funny how they discuss how Tommy is "bad" on long passes yet he is ranked number 2 in the country in yards per completion. The other thing is they mention percentage is down when the play breaks down. I think that happens with most QBs and also because he is throwing the ball away more often in those situations. Thats why sacks are so low and ints are down imo. This also plays into the low short out passes because that is the area most throwaways go. Would ve curious to ser those numbers if there was a way to remove the throw away passes.

I have been a Tommy fan and stated it, T Newby fan and stated it, Langs and his play calling (not one person has answered my questions on what would be a better call per given situations). I would say Camp Randall and a battle tested Wisconsin team is the reason for it. They've played well for who they've played this season and Nebraska is largely unknown in that regard, hopefully we prove the voters right. Wisconsin isn't exactly explosive so as long as we keep our mistakes to a minimum and hang in there until our offense makes something happen I think we'll be in decent shape.

The officiating at Indiana was ridiculous ( something like a 10 to 1 ratio against us ). I hope that the officials don't get caught up with the crowd again. There was another game we got derailed after a good start also; HCMR laid it on the officials as hard as I have ever seen him - seemed to be saying enough and the last call was a phantom call; indicating it wasn't showing in replays either.
