I thought Ethan Pulliam was our punter to be, he even quit baseball this season to strictly concentrate on punting

One year back in the 80s we had a kickoff returner who led the nation in return yards. I remember saying, that’s not a good thing.
I remember years ago when I was attempting to learn how to play golf, I called a buddy of mine and said I found a bunch of golf balls today it was great. He said that's not good, that means you were in the woods all day.

My best two guesses would be either Mardye McDole from Mobile, AL or Glen Young from Greenwood. They were both wide receivers at MSU, both returned kickoffs and both played in the NFL after MSU.

RIP Mardye Mcdole, he died a year or two ago in his early 60's

Both of those guys were on pretty good teams. Young also played outfield.

I think maybe the guy that returned the opening kickoff for a TD vs Southern Miss in Hattiesburg in 1989. And he may have just led the SEC, but for purposes of my memory and story he led the nation.

In '89 my guess would have been Tony James, he led the team that year in returns but I don't see any TD's though. The only one with a TD return I see is Jerry Bouldin

I was going to say it had to be Tony James. I think he did lead the nation in return yards one season, although I may have been drunk that day, season, 5 years.

It was against UT. At home. Opening game. Blazing hot. I was there. Opening kick six and proceeded to get crushed 40-7

Broke my hand in 3 places that night hitting a Suttle Hall dorm door (definitely not over the game) after me and a buddy tried to knock out a Coors party ball tailgating before and after the game. It was the dreaded opening season 11a JP game. Ah the stupid S some of us did in college.
