2A East Wilkes played at 4A Hibriten a close and tough game on Friday. Can they do the same to Mount Airy on EW home field this Friday? Mount Airy needs to work on its offense this week.

The EW Concession Booth is 8A all the way.

Now, for those fans that have not been to EW before, take your hiking boots because you have a long, long walk to get to the field. You also might need a flashlight and Bear Spray.
Other than that, East is a nice place to visit.

EW impressed me. They need a little bit of a passing game to help out that running game but they are a good ball team.

Big win for the bears. Not trying to be rude but losing to H game one is a really bad sign. All the noise was about how good EW was then scrimmages happened and people made excuses now they lost a game they would have dominated last year. Obviously they are starting a new QB and the non conference ultimately doesn’t matter as long as they win the conference but starting 0-2 is going to make the coaching staffs jobs harder after the players were told all spring/summer that they were great.

Hibriten is picked to win the 4a/5a conference that they are in. EW will be fine. EW would’ve beaten last years Hibriten team with last year’s EW team. They are missing a huge line component that played Varsity all 3 yrs. Line play needs to improve. Teams have to create their own identity and not rest on the laurels of what is said about them before they actually earn it. EW will be fine but I expect them to take a few lumps as well. I think that’s a good win for the Bear’s but not overly impressive offensively. It seems like there is Tayshon then there is everyone else offensively. The Rams lost on the scoreboard but more than held their own against a team that truly was expected to win at home. EW line play has to play perfect to be within a few Td’s of Mt.Airy on Friday night.

EW has to stop the turnovers and missed opportunities. EW could have easily won that game by 2 tds. As well all know, you simply cannot turn the ball over and expect to win. No disrespect to Hibriten they won it and took advantage of the miscues and turnovers from EW. Hibriten has a good squad.

Im sure it will be an uphill battle for us all game. We have the make some improvements in several areas.

As for the concessions, they are always top notch. Hope you all enjoy the new stadium. (New Turf field, rubber track, and new home side stands, etc)

Think we learned something tonight Mt airy has other potential athletes if the coach will only give theme a chance and it took Martin getting hurt to find that out

I will say the first half of MA-EW game might have been the worst half of football I have seen at Mt Airy in years. Despite the fact that at the half MA was ahead 8 to 3, it did so on a 77 yard pass play where the throw was in the air 50 to 55 yards on a rope and dead accurate. The offense was just short of horrible, and the defense was just short of horrible also. Play calling was horrible.

As Bear1971 stated above, it was not brilliance that led to discovery, it was desperation when ALL State RB Taeshon Martin went down and a good wide receiver Zack Goins also unable to go.
Then we learned a few things:
The freshman can throw the ball. And that he is cool headed under pressure. I will bet good money he can also run if given the chance or allowed to.
Mt Airy does have other offensive players that can get the job done when given the chance, something they had not be given until desperation left no other option.
The defense is not world beaters, yet. But they are getting there. The 2nd half they stood up to the challenge from a REALLY, REALLY, GOOD East Wilkes team.
Team Discipline, that was the one of the calling cards of both former head coaches Kelly Holder and JK Adkins, is still lacking in spades. 3 straight illegal procedure calls late in the game at a crucial time is just one demonstration of that point.

Yet Mt Airy came back with guts, determination and without 2 offensive starters to win 23 to 16.

This relatively young coaching staff made adjustments at halftime to be sure. Now they need to look at what they learned and incorporate it into the future game plans.

Speaking of East Wilkes, they are a team that is big, fast, talented and will beat you to death if given a chance. Having seen both them and Starmount, all I can say is that is going to be an event to behold! The rest of 2A should really take notice.

I can't understand what MA is trying to do on the offensive side of the ball and I don't think they know either. As much as it sucks to see Martin go out for injury, it very well may be what was needed to pull their head out their rear and spread it around a little. The freshman QB is being a freshman QB out there at times. In the long run, it's probably for the best for coming years teams that he is getting the experience. Still, the fumbles and interceptions are hard mistakes to watch and might bite them as the offense struggles. He can definitely toss it. Still would like to see Hemric get a few series.

Unless something changes on offense, I see no way this team wins a state or even regional title. They can turn it around, but they have to figure out who they are on offense.

EW is a very solid team. Their game against Starmount will be a must watch. I think they have a good chance to make a run in the playoffs. Number 40 and 21 are good to great rbs. I enjoyed watching 40 rumble down field. They played with heart oand purpose. Number 23 needs to control his temper, it's going to hurt the team at a bad time. Overall, very impressed with EW speed and play. Both teams lines need a knock in the head for the false starts.
