Mount Airy vs Mitchell Comments

Thoughts on this game ? Mount Airy vs Mitchell . Both are respectable teams with great traditions !

Does Mitchell have enough defense is my ?

To be honest, I was shocked that not only did Mount Airy make that long trip, and beat Whiteville, but that they held the Wolfpack to ONLY 6pts....Now, that caught my eye for sure!

As Knine mentioned, Mitchell's defense has given up a lot of points late in the season when the competition stepped-up, so what can a casual fan expect from the Mountaineers' defense this week?

Can't really compare Mitchell's offense with Whiteville because I haven't seen Whiteville play, but do remember reading that the Wolfpack had a vesatile QB who could run or throw, which is what the the Granite Bears will face this friday in Sophomore Ben Young....

Should be a great game and atmosphere in Bakersfield this coming friday....

Seen above where the trip takes about an hour and a half, so was curious to the route that Mount Airy fans will travel when they make the trip to Mitchell County this coming friday?

I was saying MITCHELL was about 1 TO 1 & 1/2 hour closer than Whiteville. I think it was 2 to 2 & 1/2 hours to Mitchell. You can click on the link and see for sure.

That's a good question, there have been times as of late that the defense has struggled a little bit, but I think it has been more of a lack of focus than ability to play good defense. Like Friday night Mitchell jumped on North Moore 28 to 0 at the half and had held them to 45 total yards at the half while gaining 250 themselves at the half, but we then came out lackluster and uninterested in the second half and gave up some points and yards. There have only been 2 times we have gave up over 30 points this year and one of those was another lack of focus against Hendersonville, a game that we led 36 to 13 at the half against one of the best offenses in the mountains and went on to win 56 to 40. You definitely don't want to give up a lot of points but luckily we have had enough offense to be fine if we do all but one game, we have been over 40 points every game except 2 this year and 27 has been our lowest point total, 2 of our 60+ point total games have been against a 4a and a 3a team both with running clocks. When it comes to defense up the middle I tend to believe we may be one of the strongest in the west and against offenses that play that way we have had games such as the Andrews and Madison games where we have shut teams out and held both under 100 total yards. But we have really struggled containing the edge and as of late the pass defense has been a little suspect, we also struggle making fundamental tackles at times. I know at some point these weaknesses are going to cause us some problems against somebody that can exploit them, but I hope when that time comes we can make adjustments or have enough offense to win a shootout, we shall see, I know Mount Airy will be a very stiff test and very well could be the end of the road for us.

Good post Mitchaneers that is very well said and I agree with that season recap That pretty much sums it up. I will say that when we focus we are a tough team but it seems we play really good in the first and then let down or start slow and then play really strong after half. We will have to put 4 quarters together strong the rest of the way or we will soon be done.

Western 1AA bracket has no scenario of Mount Airy getting a home game this year even if they beat Mitchell. All of the 7 other teams are lower seeds. And the finals are in Winston Salem BB&T Field

East Surry # 3 seed plays East Montgomery # 6 seed.
Walkertown # 10 seed plays West Montgomery # 2 seed

East Wilkes # 1 seed plays Swain # 8 seed
Mount Airy # 12 seed plays Mitchell # 4 seed

I have been curious and no one has ask,but what gave East Wilkes the #1 seed over East Surry and West Montgomery.They were all 11-0 .. I know it is a reason I have forgotten about.
