Mountain 6A/5A Week 1 Predictions

[Owen Stampede]

I was eating at J and S about 2-3 weeks ago and Shane Laws and another coach were there talking to some out of town guy talking themselves up about how they get all these transfers. The man was asking questions about players they had coached and Shane brought up Dowdle etc and how they got him from SC. That school gets more transfers than anybody and now they can’t even win with them. Out of all the years that ACR has won they would have been nothing with the home grown kids. I don’t respect Shane or ACR for the way they have operated. It was going on back when Poss was there. How about having some character and stand for what’s right instead of just taking players from everyone. Sports from pro all the way down to youth league are getting so out of hand with this stuff it makes me sick. It takes the community pride out of it. It teaches kids that when you don’t like some little thing just jump around. When things don’t go your way take your ball and go home. That’s why our society is in the shape it’s in. You can get offended or upset about what I’ve stated but deep down you know it’s true! Rant over

Thanks brother. I just grew up in a different era. Also the rivalry between Owen and ACR is long gone, but it still holds true for me and my era. I hate the green and yellow. I have had several family members play for ACR and they know how I feel about it. Bottom line, love me or hate me, I’m real! You are right unfortunately about loyalty. Most of that is caused by what they see with their idols in the pros. Just a bunch of babies

I’m not defending transfers at all but in Charlotte it isn’t the same community mindedness as it is in the mountains especially. A kid may be living in the same community that their parents did when they were in high school but now going to a completely different school that’s 2-years old so they aren’t loyal to the area just districted there. It’s not like Haywood County where we haven’t had a new (sports playing) high school since 1966.

With Reynolds and Erwin losing, this would be the first time in a long time that the MAC is not the top dog.

I was surprised when the Asheville player transferred to Reynolds after I heard the Reynolds QB had trouble making passes more than 5 yards past the los. If you are a WR or skill player that wants more opportunities why not go to a pass happy offense like Erwin with a proven QB?

That was a surprise. The Asheville QB can spin it and the transfer was going to a focal point of the offense. Oh well If anybody knows of any DL or LB please tell them to come on cause our D needs help. Of course starting four Freshman with one 13 year old middle linebacker is tough

I did hear that. That one of the kids starting for Asheville high just turned 14 the other day. Like as in 2-3 days ago. How is that even possible?

Kids born in August if they dont get held back will be youngest in there class.
