Should be a close game and Enka needs a win. Cherokee has been on the road a lot after their long trip to Mississippi.

The gauntlet continues for Erwin. They hung in against Brevard until the second half. Hendersonville defense struggled against North Henderson and this will likely be a high scoring game.

I really didn't know much about Asheville School until watching some film and " Ruh Roh Shaggy ". They are BIG upfront and those running backs are a LOAD. I don't think the Cougars can just line up and impose their will. They are going to have to scheme both offense and defense. We'll see.

Murphy’s top back got hurt at the end of the second qtr and didn’t return, and Reynolds, trailing 14-6 with just over a minute left before halftime, scored on a questionable 90 yard strip and score. Murphy was fixing to go up big before the half. If those two things don’t happen, Murphy very likely wins the game. They dominated Reynolds in the first half but fell apart after those two things happened. Still, not a bad showing for a 2a school. Guarantee Reynolds knows they were in a game.

Honestly I’d rather not play them or anyone else in that conference ever again. If they don’t beat you like a drum, or if they actually lose the game, it’s never that the SMC team is good or that they played tough, it’s always the classic “you caught us on a bad year” excuse blah blah blah and “ordinarily we’d kill you”. Well good for you. We will continue to win state titles in our classes most years (1a/2a) while y’all continue to play basketball on championship weekend.

I agree, Murphy had too many mistakes. They definitely need to get that cleaned up going forward. As for a game at Murphy next year, I wouldn’t mind seeing it. Murphy is relatively young this year. They have a good mix of seniors to go along with a strong group of juniors and sophomores. So next year’s outlook is pretty good. # 5 is a junior this year and #8 is only a sophomore. I will say it’s a different world out here on Friday nights in the Fall. Lots of big schools have left town with a big L on their record. Time will tell.

I hate to tell you but you're not winning a title in 2A. If you go back to small 1A like in years past you probably will but anything above that is not happening. The level of competition in 2A to 8A on the eastern part of the state is whole other level. The only team in WNC with any chance of a state title is Robbinsville because they are still in the little 1A.

You have no way of knowing that for sure. If Murphy were to bump up in class it would be be because they had a major increase in student population. Who knows what kind of talent they would add to their team in that event.

Actually I’ve been around and following football in NC for even longer than you. I have read these boards for a long time and you have always been critical of Murphy for some reason. I have serious questions about how much you truly know about Murphy’s football history. I’m not gonna rehash it all on here because I could write a book on it. I’ll just say that Murphy isn’t just a great “1a” team. They have a 2a title (1974) as well, and they have beaten countless “bigger schools” over the years from Tennessee, Georgia, and North Carolina. So it isn’t just 1a teams that Murphy has beaten up on over the years. Not even close. That is a myth.

I also stand by what I said about the 2a playoffs. If healthy and playing well this year, the only 2a team that has a chance against Murphy is Tarboro, and I promise you Murphy will not lose by three or four TDs against them if they play the way they are capable of playing. That’s the same crap people were spewing before Murphy played Wallace Rose Hill in 2010. It took a miracle 45 yard FG in driving wind and rain/sleet for Wallace to pull that one out 22-21. Frankly, Murphy was the better team and should have won the game IMO, but it wasn’t meant to be. Murphy came up a hair short, but the people who said Wallace would blow Murphy out sure looked foolish afterwards.

Fwiw, Murphy doesn’t have to shut down Tarboro’s offense to win, they just need to get a few stops somehow, protect the ball, cut down on penalties, and be able to move the ball and score points. Murphy is more than capable of doing all those things. But, that’s putting the carts in front of the horses. Long time to go until this potential matchup, and I certainly am not disrespecting Tarboro, nor do I plan to. It would be an honor to play them. Awesome, class program.
