Saw Franklin in a scrimmage with Rabun County and I was impressed if Robbinsville wins by double digits Heritage better watch out, Swain will be physical but I don’t think they have enough offense to hang with the bears I could see Pisgah going 7-2 the rest of the year I still think they are a really solid team.

Our conference doesn’t appear incredibly strong in depth. We definitely shouldn’t be favored against Brevard or West. Tuscola, Franklin, North and Smoky are toss ups that I think we have slight edge in, (either due to team makeup or atmosphere surrounding games) and we SHOULD beat Swain, Enka, and East but I wouldn’t be shocked if Swain or Enka either one snuck in a win against us. 6-4 for the year probably looks about right at this point but hopefully I could be wrong.

It would be good to see us dominate Swain but we’re going to have to develop a much more “Bully” mentality than we have in the scrimmages or game.

Swain possibly but no way Enka beats Pisgah! I think you guys will get better as the year goes on.

I don’t think Enka has a better team for sure, I just don’t think we’re a team that will blow people out even when playing our best just based on how we’re built. We’re not built to overcome blown assignments that lead to a couple of scores.

The only good thing about the MH game is we have a lot of room to get better.

Pisgah got beat 42-7 against Brevard first game last year and turned out pretty good I expect the same this year. What I’m trying to say is we were essentially “besides maybe Brevard or Erwin” the number 1 team in wnc last year and we might be better this year it’s not the end of the world to lose to us, you guys were all over Asheville in a scrimmage and they are pretty dang good.

I'm real interested to see how Swain fares against Pisgah this week considering the disaster that was last season. I finally got to watch the full Smoky game and can say they got a bunch more spunk about them this season already. Swain has some nice athletes and some size as well. They did however commit several costly errors (like 10 bad snaps, some fumbles) but basically shut out Smoky if it wasn't for several penalties going Smoky's way on their only scoring drive. They are young from what I understand, starting several sophomores on both sides, so hopefully they can keep cool and put up a good fight.

On a different note what's going on at Smoky? They look nice, got some size and some speed, but they were very disorganized and definitely got frustrated very early on in the game leading to a penalty and what some may perceive as a thrown punch. It all seemed very strange to me, any ideas?

Swains always physical but so is Pisgah and I think they got too much offense, I got them by 3 scores. I have mad respect for the SMC maybe you’ll prove me wrong.

So, are you saying that our new identity is to get curb stomped the first week and then come week 2 we’re ready to begin our season? 🤣🤣

On another note, we may move some JVs around/up that would help us improve our team speed on varsity.

Better to lose them early than late lol, I’m saying you might be better than you think, Reynolds got curb stomped week one and they might win their conference, losing sucks but Heritage had 30 plus years of being awful before we turned it around Pisgah got too much tradition to be bumbed out by one game. Heritage was pretty good last year but if they made it to state they would’ve got blown out it doesn’t stop you from cheering on your team.

If we move a couple of JVs up, I think it will help us be more explosive and not just continually be at the mercy of slow, methodical drives for the majority of our offense.
Also our QB getting more reps will definitely help due to him sitting out most the of preseason with an injury.

I think at the end of the season Brevard will prove to be the class of WNC.

That’s true, it will definitely be a physical game. All I want is for it to be competitive, hopefully it’s closer than 2 scores but things are always volatile this early in the season. Till the dust settles and the game ends I’ll be rooting for them SMC boys lol.

The Brevard/pisgah score last year was 35-0 and the main factor in that game was pisgah giving up explosive plays and getting whipped up front in the trenches on both sides of the ball, and pisgah did get better as the year went on so Brevard might not put a shutout on yall this year being the last game of the season. But being a lonely blue devil that used to work at the mill I really really hope we do 🤣 yall should rebound with a w this week though

Last year’s Brevard game is the most thoroughly overpowered game that I can remember. We were outmanned in every single phase and just got physically outperformed and dominated.

Luke Coleman is one of if not the best coach in the mountains and has done a great job at Brevard. His teams play hard, are physical, are very well coached, and they have a tough scheme. Pisgah would do well to find enough $ to convince him to come back home.

That's very true.

Swain has so much tradition that I think they will be back one day. On a side note, I heard Chris Brookshire is coaching there now. He was at Erwin last year. Despite the bs that happened at Tuscola, he is a great guy. The kids will really go all out for him!

A few years ago Erwin lost to Pisgah and badly to Owen to open the season. They ended up in the 3rd rd of the state playoffs that same season. With the exception of WH and Brevard you should win the rest of your games pretty easily. That is 7-3 and not a bad season at all.

Yes, Pritchett got the ball rolling again for Brevard and Coleman is doing a good job of furthering that momentum. They have a very solid group of athletes sitting 10-12th grade. Their skill set allows them to punch others in the mouth and/or also run by them.

Money does talk but I don’t think Coleman currently has any interest to come back to Pisgah even if there was on Pisgah’s (not saying there is). He’s close enough to “Home”, has one of the best paying jobs in WNC, great community support, and doesn’t have to deal with coaching in front of those he grew up with. Basically, he has everything at Brevard he could get at Pisgah with perhaps a little more consistent talent depth rolling through.

I remember when Luke was named the new coach at Brevard .Pisgah fans were on here saying they never heard of him.I remember when he played and he was good. Now those fans know who he is.

Yeah Pritchett definitely revived Brevard it was definitely a tough few years there during the jeff bailey era. I dont think Coleman is going anywhere anytime soon. From what I gather the middle school is loaded this year to so he's pretty well set for the next 5-6yrs. I could be wrong and hope I am but at some point in the next few years pisgah and tuscola both are probably going to experience some growing pains from the mill closing.

Yes, I knew Luke well on and off the field.

He also played against Brevard when Essenburg had them at their peak for years. The “Manny” years were a big part of Essenburg’s success and Coleman wanted Deshauteurs on his staff when he took the job. He knew full well what Brevard had the potential to be or he wouldn’t have left Georgia.

The 8-10 grade group of Canton, Bethel, and Brevard have battled it out for youth and middle school championships all the way up. Bethel beating Brevard last year. I think those years will be some really fun years for both Pisgah and Brevard and I love having this game back as the last of the year.

The mill closing may ripple through but fortunately the region was in a decent place as far as needing workers so I don’t think a lot of people left the area, at least not initially. I’ll say that I expected more to leave than did anyways. I know of a few that did and have moved back. That’s on the Pisgah side of things. I can’t speak much on Waynesville.

I don't think the middle school is loaded like it once was. Most of that really good talent is sitting in that 10th grade through 12th grade class. I think they were decent last year, there used to be website you could follow the middle school scores but can't remember where to find it. I think the youth program has been struggling. He's definitely got a good couple seasons ahead of him but I think it'll balance out after that. As for the haywood schools, I am honestly not sure what impacts to expect. They still sit on a major thoroughfare through the mountains with i-40 running right through the heart of the county. Like brevard did, they'll regroup and lean on the tourism industry but I don't think you'll see a substantial change in the population.

Pisgah nor Swain played the cleanest of ball with both teams capitalizing on miscues for points several times.

With the score at 0-0 Pisgah stopped Swain on 4th for a big turnover on downs only to fumble the ball away on first down. Swain then turned that into 7pts on a botched snap pass nonetheless. Swain kicks off to us and we let the ball off of our feet and turn the ball over again. Swain scores off this turnover as well but then misses the xp. We control much of the 2nd half and play much more dominant football but Swain did give us help. We had great kickoff coverage after 1 TD and then Swain botched the snap and the QB tossed the ball for intentional grounding. Swain goes to point out of their end zone and punts the ball out of bounds at the 6 yard line leaving us a very short field.

With the game at 28-21, we have a nice dominant drive going that stalls around the 3 yard line with under 2 minutes to go. We go for a fg and push it right by a lot. Swain gets the ball and mainly crams it down our throats for 90+ yards and scores. 28-27. QB rolls out on 2-pt conversion and we end up sacking him. Ballgame.

Good to have a win but definitely need to clean some things up and our defense cannot continue to have the ball pushed down their throats at times. We have the personnel to shut that down it just needs to get in sync.

I didn’t see Swain play last year but based on what I heard and then saw tonight, they are playing much more inspired ball. Solid little rb and they have some good size on the lines. QB made some nice plays tonight, also. Their last scoring drive several guys did a good job of making the needed play for them. Like us, they just need to clean some things up.

Let’s get ready for the Jets.
