Conference play to start

Alleghany at Ashe
East Wilkes at North Wilkes
Elkin at Starmount
West Wilkes at Wilkes Central

Ashe - Giving the advantage with them being at home. However, I wouldn't be surprised if Alleghany walks away with a win. I think they would have to play slow with long, time consuming drives.
EW - North Surry last week showed that NW only played terrible teams before that game.
Starmount - by whatever they want.
WC - I think WC offense is too much for WW to keep up with. Again, if WC comes out flat, like they do at times, I could see WW keeping it close.

Seems like a lot of parity in the conference from every team… It could be interesting… i think Elkin gets blazed by the Rams…N.Wilkes has added a few new wrinkles to their offense from previous yrs and their signal caller at Qb is pretty nasty. EW needs to shut it down early and often and leave no doubt! WW and WC could be a battle of who wants it the most! WW has a few athletes that came out for football that haven’t played in years and are very impactful! They will be eager to prove last year wasn’t a fluke. WC has athletes and A Quick Qb that has a never die attitude.. you can’t count these cats out.. as witnessed by a 34-23 come from behind win against N.Iredell earlier this year, in seeing the Eagles score 34 unanswered pts… They have a workhorse back in Harris…and he runs downfield!!!! The RB’s at Alleghany had a field day hitting the corners earlier in the year in a surprise victory against North Surry in which Alleghany probably wasn’t surprised at all by the win… I expect them to keep rolling and play spoiler for the Mountain Boys of Ashe!

I was right when I said none of them would be close. Football in the northwest foothills is just not competitive right now.

Shows that WC didn't show up. WW isn't 26 points better.
Alleghany may be a decent team, but Ashe must be terrible.

Other two games are expected, at least I would think from little I've seen.

I'll be really surprised if Alleghany stays within two scores of Starmount. Same with WW staying within two scores of EW.

After one week its pretty clear EW Starmount and Alleghany are the top of the conference. Starmount demolished Elkin. WW handled WC (Not sure what's going on there) Alleghany thumped Ashe and EW slashed NW, Might add EW had 3 tds called back due to penalties. Looking forward to learning more next week. Over the next 2 weeks I think we have a clear picture of what the conference will look like.

What happen to Wilkes Central vs West Wilkes? I heard Wilkes Central showed no life at all on offense. And alot of poor tackling on defense? Did Wilkes Central have some key players out with injuries and one of them was their QB? Give West Wilkes credit they played a great game, but i don't think their defense was that super spectatular.. They made Wilkes Central look like a midget team.

West Wilkes is HUGE UP FRONT… ! EW will definitely need to rely on its speed advantage to hit the outside on WW. They seem to clog the middle pretty well. #23 seems like a pretty shifty RB for the Blackhawks as well. They have given up only 3 pts in 4 games. Schedule hasn’t been world beater type.. but they seem to be on a nice roll. EW needs to come out.. make statements on both sides of the ball.. and definitely work on the penalty yards… not sure what or how to fix that piece.. but all the refs… call the same things against the Cards repeatedly… makes games closer than some should be… 3tds called back against N. Wilkes was crazy… luckily the Cards didn’t need the points..🤦🏾‍♂️

WW does have a good defense. Only points they have given up is 7 and thats to North Surry. WW lost that game 3-7. I think if EW comes out and plays physical they do win the game. I dont think WW has the offense to keep up.

WC has been "WC" for the last 20+ years. They can score a lot of points quick and have a decent team OR they leave all game plans in the locker room and look like they rather be watching the game at home in front of the TV.

I'm interested in the Starmount vs Alleghany game this week! I think that it'll tell us how for real Alleghany is.

Alleghany has a freshman lineman (#70) who is the real deal. Could see him playing D2 one day and being really good. Starmount probably has too much speed for the Trojans, but they do have a good team. West Wilkes is huge up front and could cause some issues for EW - but again, EW speed probably too much for the Blackhawks.

Alleghany will be a problem for the top 2 teams in EW & SM. This Friday night will show us what everyone has thought all summer that its EW & SM then a gap before the next group OR that this will be a much tighter MVAC race than just about everyone expected.

I think the next couple weeks will be interesting. I know, one game at a time, but the MVC seems to have three weeks of what should be fun games.
  • Alleghany has Starmount, WW, EW.
  • East Wilkes has WW, Starmount, Alleghany.
  • Starmount has Alleghany, EW, WW.
Is Starmount still the favorite? Does Starmount take Alleghany lightly and look ahead to what is considered the conference championship the following week against EW? Does EW do the same to WW? Does Alleghany really have what it takes to upset Starmount or EW? Alleghany has played in some close games. Does WW defense have what it takes to disrupt and cause issues within an opponents offense?

Any word of wifm this week? That Starmount Alleghany game would be the one to cover, IMO.

Hopefully we get close games in both of the top matchups tonight. I really think it would be good for the overall viewpoint of the conference.

Only a good game if you win...us fumbling punt was tide changer...should have yelled peter and got out of the way....fumbling handoff and two extra pts missed with sorry blocking gave you the game Deana. Total bs. Hope we get a rematch...by the way y'all's crowd turnout was terrible for a starmount crowd...i know it's early in the morning but still that was sad turnout for starmount. But y'all got the win...id rather have no fans there and win...than have a packed house and lose on extra pt BS. Proud of the Trojans except for the linemen that let everybody through on both extra pts. Wish we would have got the ball second and went for two in ot. When they blocked first one so easy i had a feeling it would happen again. After rewatching two extra pts nobody steps inside on the extra pts which allowed starmount defenders to slither through gaps. Got to protect inside out ..if they run around end and block extra pt so be it but don't let someone slither through you. Least that's the way i was taught...total heart break hope we win out. After seeing everyone play i think EW is the cream of the MVAC and expect them to beat starmount. But time will tell. Just glad we are relevant again.

Sorry you were disappointed with the visitor crowd. The crowd was present before the game was called due to lightning. It is unfortunate, and disappointing, that those making the decision to play the game chose to do it within ten hours of the scheduled Friday night time, on a Saturday morning. For those fans like myself who drove over 1 1/2 hours from Charlotte to enjoy a game that was canceled, it was not as easy as for the home crowd to attend on a Saturday morning. Sounds like a great game, and the Rams did enough to pull out the win.

Some folks have other obligations on Saturdays so for the most part the parents and diehard fans came back. When we left around 7:30 this morning to come up, radar had rain everywhere. Maybe they chose to stay at home and follow updates on social media rather risking another drive up to Sparta.

BlueRidgeFootball couldnt agree more...I like our semi new coach. Team plays hard every week and that's all you can ask for. Jv team is good also...maybe we can stay out of the basement of the MVAC for awhile. The loss just put is from second in rpi to third...so that's good

Yeah to go from the beat down last year the Rams gave them to battling them to the last play this year. It shows the kids have bought into Coach Bennett’s systems and philosophies.

it will be crucial to see if they bounce back next week with a solid performance or do they spiral after the tough loss to Starmount.
