Every Bulldog fan can agree that we did not play as well as possible today. We had spurts of greatness followed by bonehead plays. As a bulldog fan who's followed MSU sports since I've known what a TV, Radio, and Newspaper were, I've seen plenty of games that shaped up this way but not come out as W's (I know some of you predate the television but I don't know that feeling). Plenty of games that shaped up this way, that previous Bulldog teams might fold up shop and pack it in. This team seems to have a much different demeanor than the teams we MSU fans have come accustomed to. They are gritty and unselfish. They all seem to divert praise to some other players or units. Not one single player appears like a "ME" person. Everyone seems humble and looks out for every other person on the team.
Maybe that's the difference this year. We have a complete team. Everyone together for the betterment of the team. Seems that way from what I have seen. I'm hoping today was a much needed wake-up call for the remainder of the season. Its a lot better for a team to have a wake-up call in a Win versus a Loss and I'd much rather be 3-0 vs 2-1.
I know we, as fans, quickly criticize the coaches and players during and shortly after the games. But look at last week. We were praising everyone this side of 82 except the special teams after beating Auburn. Now we're having doubts after playing a lesser team, at their house, in their super bowl of the century. Given, we didn't play to our potential, but we took their best punches, time and time again and never fell down. Maybe we took a standing 8 count in the 4th, but we got back up and finished them like winning programs do. It wasn't pretty but we finished what we set out to do. Win.
Hopefully we can learn and gain a lot from today and move forward a much improved humble team. A team that has been reminded that no game is given, no game is a W until 0:00, and that nobody is going to lay down and let you steam roll them. Today's game was a great game for teaching and coaching and hopefully we can use it to improve on the remainder of the season. With our coaching staff I believe they will use this game, the remainder of the year, to keep our team grounded.
The rest of the schedule does not seem daunting except for Alabama. Damn, how much I'd love to see us beat LSU here in November. If we play to the potential the game in BR will be a fun one. A 10 win season is not unreasonable.
