About to be moving from south Mississippi to Longview, TX. Any advice from State fans from out there or things to expect?

Learn to love or grow to hate the Longhorns, Spurs, and the Cowboys. Longview is a nice town. I always usually stop there on my way back. High school football here is huge!!!

I spent some time there in the early 90's...Kinda reminded me of a bigger Columbus or Tupelo...Some decent nightlife and events, but nothing extraordinary.

It's the Texas pine-belt, so the scenery is just what you're accustomed to.

the main difference I've experienced from those outside the SEC arena, is that they don't realize college football acutally happens outside their vacuum..

at least SEC fans understand the game and we understand that competiive football acttually can exist outside our borders..

they on the other hand think that when another conferences puts up better bowl winning percentages and national champtionships that it really didn't happen or some stupid spin that doesn't justify their teams not doing better..

just take the high road.. and accept their ignorance and move on with your life....things will be easier if you follow that logic

She says that everytime the Longhorns and Cowboys win, everybody goes outside and fires their guns in the air, including her husband. They live on about 100 acres and she said they can hear shots from WAY off....

(that alone should tell you something about the quality of life there), and while I can vouch for her Cowboys loyalty, I don't believe she packs heat.

No the wife doesn't "wear the pants", just that MSU education finally paying off and I'm glad I can slow down some now. My soon to be neighbors are longhorn fans and I could see a TCU fan down the street. Looks to be some interesting conversations in the near future.

Between 80 to 85 thousand residents, decent shopping and dining, good medical care system, not very far from StarkVegas (6.5 hours tops, most of it straight down the interstate), kick arse high school football, but...almost zero nightlife. Lots of Texas and aTm fans, with a smattering of TTech, Baylor, and TCU fans. Quite a few LSUx fans as well with a few Hog and Bulldog fans. Does have an active MSU alumni chapter based mostly in Longview and Tyler, TX, which is maybe 45 minutes away. Probably the only downside is lack of nightlife, but Tyler is close by and better yet, Shreveport if you like gambling. You could be in downtown Dallas in less than 2.5 hours, Houston in maybe 3.5. It is most likely a far better place to live than the vast majority of communities in Mississippi.

and "Big 12" country as you say, Longview's proximity to Shreveport all but guarantees you local network coverage of the SEC football and basketball games of the week. That may not matter in today's world where so many people have satellite television, but it does show that you aren't knee deep in Big 12 country in east Texas.

What sort of work will the wife be doing in Longview? Engineering?
