got this mozilla firefox add-on from this link https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/lightbeam/
after you activate it, to see what all is going on in the background you have to click the little black icon in the extreme bottom-right of you screen.....the light blue bars at the bottom highlight the things described on each bar....mozilla says they were inspired to put this out there in the interest of transparency due to recent NSA-spying revelations...
