They actually do take up hundreds a game.

I have to actually hide mine in a girls purse, you can't just walk in with it in your hand.</span>

I hate when writers and other fans, like Mississippi fans, bring up air horns. "We're going to bring air horns to the egg bowl," and all that ridiculous ****. Air horns are completely different. If ppl actually brought stuff like that to games ppl would go deaf. Comparing Cow Bells to air horns just makes you look really dumb.

Bring whatever noisy contraption you want to a game. Soccer players have been putting up with airhorns and whistles for years, and if those flopping nancies can tolerate some honks (and the occasional stray road flare), surely some big, tough, SEC-caliber football player could too, right?

maybe we should throw urine balloons like Mexico soccer home games.

Who wouldn't want to see Ingram or McElroy pelted with urine after a 3 and out coming back to the bench?

As sure as the sun will rise in the east and corndog smell will bein the air when LSU is in town, there will always be a very vocal anti-cowbell group in the SEC.

I wish it would stop and know it won't. I just wish we would win every game by 60 points and give them some honest reason to hate us.

I sure hope that corndog reference didn't upset anyone. If it did I apologize. Shoot, as long as there's some mustard available I like themmyself. I will say that my house doesn't have a corndog smell after friends come over to watch a game.</p>

it's not thoroughly disgusting and riot-worthy, it's IMPASSIONED support of ones team. They...care...so...much (sniff) more than you can understand.
Who knows, maybe a more futbol-like atmosphere would improve the ref's vision and reaction times, too!

"problem" would go away. just ring the bells by the same rules your band follows about when to play.

but, what's the odds you can get the rank and file fan to follow those rules? not good.

all teams really know howto keeping the bells quiet or keeping them ringing all game: control the game. doing that will even shut up LSU and bammer fans.

truly curious about one thing however: what does MSU do with all these bells they claim to seize at the gate? give them back? re-sell them? I lived in Columbus for a long time and attended many state games and never heard of anyone actually losing their bell to the bellcops.

and the guy told me I had to take it back to my car. I had a regular ticket and was going through an actual gate and walking over to the student section to sit with some friends. The game was about to start and I asked him if I could just leave it right at the entrance. I took my chances and luckily, after the game was over, it was still sitting there.

You used to be able to pick them back up at the ticket office. However, it would never fail that someone would take yours and then you would just find a good one, and so on.... I only had mine taken away at the Florida game where Dicenzo and Dante combined for about 350 yards more on the ground than the Gaytuhs.

at least that's my understanding. They give you a ticket and you can reclaim your bell after the game.

As for "fan discipline" I wouldn't be throwing too many stones in that direction. EVERY school has a contingent of ***-hat fans...MSU and OM are no exceptions.

Heck, there are some fans that ring it when our own Q.B. is at the LOS trying to call signals, but I do love the bell.

Got one back. First time-freshman year (96) got busted at the gate, put it in a pile with several others (which of course were gone by halftime).
Second time. Bama game 98 (maybe 2000). In the freaking student section. Actual, honest-to-goodness cop grabs it from behind pretty much mid-ring. I refuse to give it up unless he takes every other bell in the section. So he snags the one from the guy in front of me. We both ask where they will be stashed, and are taken to an equipment closet/first aid station down by the south entrance. After the game, I amazingly got mine out of a pile (and got a few others for some friends).

measure the decibels at all SEC stadiums in their rival game and demand that noise levels be shown on the score board.
Demand that anything can be used as long as it does not exceed LSU at home against Ole Miss when OM is 3rd and 5 or less in the red zone.

Level the playing field.

Measure the decibels at MSU during a few games. Find the highest level and then if noise is really the problems then have the LSU's, Ala, Fla's reduce their crowd amount until the decibel levels approaches/equals that at MSU with the cowbells going.

A decibel meter only measures sound. It does not discriminate between artificial noise (what ever the hell that is) and real noise. If the level of "noise" is truly the concern by our esteem partners in the SEC then they should be willing (they should be eager) to adjust their noise levels accordingly and reducing crowd size.

Actually, I do agree. Take them to court. Have a judge demand that all schools have approximately the same level of noise. Reducing crowd sized at Fla, LSU, Tenn etc. would be the only solution. The only fair solution.

good lord what a stupid comment. court is for rapists and murderers and BP dumping oil into our fish. not for bells and whistles.

you that pissed about the bell rule? quit. leave the SEC. the Sunbelt will probably let you ring till your clapper falls out.

I like that idea. The SEC should measure the decibels at every SEC stadium all season long and take the average. If MSU's stadium is way above the average decibels then I can see them arguing that we should get rid of cowbells. I do think our stadium is louder than a lot of teams in the SEC but I would be shocked to see us have more decibels than LSU. I have never been to Ba-ton Rouge, but I hear it's a spectacle. Andre Ware on College Football Live did say our stadium was so loud he couldn't hear himself think so we'll see. I like the measuring the decibel idea.

If cowbells are annoying and ahem... dangerous. Then we can't have a dangerous bird of prey circling the stadium in Auburn Al before kickoff. We can't have a live tiger in Baton Rouge when there is a possibility that it may get loose... etc etc. They try to strong arm MSU and cowbells and use that incident last egg bowl as a tool to for doing such should bring about treat to introduce the possibility of removing live wild animals from the stadiums of the SEC for safety reasons.<div>
</div><div>You know since safety is at the utmost concern for the population of SEC sporting events. Let that gain some traction and lets see our member institutions crawfish a little.</div>
