You see 6, I wrote that while walking home from a fundraiser I'm pretty sure you didn't attend, nor would you.
Interesting topic was exactly how spot on MS4 was in his assessment from the coaches themselves. While they did not mention this forum, their perspectives were EXACTLY the same as his.
Crazy MS4!!!! You wacky harsh guy!
As you may know...
I'm a simple guy, not to hard to outwit. I don't hide who I am, and I'm honest enough with myself to own my ridiculousness. Next year I'll still be going to the games, fundraisers, etc...just like I have for the last 17 yrs.
I still won't sugar coat a an uninspired performance, and my guess is you will be gone just as fast as you showed up.
But your supportive, I'll give you that!
#truth
Okie, I sincerely respect your support for the program, I just wish you could save a little respect for those that show their support differently than you.
True, I didn't attend the most recent fundraiser and if I'm being completely candid, I probably wouldn't. There are so many that I must've lost track of which one that was. If
only we lived in an affluent community that had a top 20 median income level and very high property tax base for the school to draw from...oh wait. But I digress. That's another topic sure to ruffle some Hawk feathers.
Your last post had the glimmer of the irascible, self effacing & oddly likable Okie that we all know and...well,
tolerate. HOWEVER you just couldn't resist the urge to get snarky and trot out your Superfan Scorecard. So I gotta call you out.
The 'time served' thing just doesn't fly. Odd that you've been following and supporting high school football since your oldest was still in diapers...but ok...to each his own. Like many parents, I didn't come to MS games until my kid, his friends (and the kids I coached) were playing in them because I have a connection and want to show my support to those kids. That's who I'm rooting for. While I respect the coaches and what they've done, and admire the proud tradition of MS Athletics, neither are necessarily what puts my *** in a seat on Friday nights. It's watching my kid go balls out on every play and watching his friends do the same. Them laying it on the line in practice and in games is inspiring and nerve wracking and special and pure.
I'm not inspired by people (regardless of position or pedigree) looking down their noses at a top 5 team and sneering at the level of effort. Agreed that it's for the coaches to do and they do just fine. They don't need any help from parents or fans publicly calling out lack of effort and/or kicking the team's *** when necessary.
Also not inspired by a seemingly endless stream of boozy fundraisers where a lot of the conversation is either cloyingly self congratulatory or rambling, paint by the numbers rhetoric about what constitutes true 'support'. Now if they gave the money you helped raise on Saturday to Texas or Florida...that would be inspiring. I'm sure MS can find another way to cover the cost of banquet halls and party busses for awhile
So yeah...you're right about one thing: In 2018 I'm probably off the MS football carousel. Hopefully, if my son is fortunate enough (and chooses) to play at the next level...I'll be rooting for him there, wherever that may be. I'd hope for nothing less for your son Okie, as well as many other deserving kids currently in the program.
As for next year...I'll have to find a MS Girls Swimming forum to lurk around in. Anyone have any suggestions?
It may take me a year to find one
*Apologies to MS4. I still don't really agree with your initial premise...but I totally hijacked this thread (with a little help). Next time I'll just start my own.
**I now leave it my esteemed colleague from the Great state of Oklahoma to have the last word, declare total victory and claim Moral High ground. Then hopefully we can close this damn thing out before everyone else dies of boredom.
